Would we die in a ditch over any of the 5? Only Paul McGinn and Sam Nicholson possibly?

Mcginn I'd certainly want to keep. nicholson ? Done some wee bits but plenty like him out there so definitely no loss in losing him.

Spittal to hearts is a big loss obviously but what I hope it shows is our best players get moves that increase their wages drastically.

Can help with transfers to us with players from lesser teams.

Well done Stuart Kettlewell! Fully expected us to come out 2nd half, continue to move the ball slowly allowing Livi to all get behind the ball, then lose another one on the break. However we completed changed the tempo in the 2nd half, not only by bringing on Vale, who was involved in nearly everything good we did, but by pulling Miller back into that more defensive role where he can ping passes about, I think it suits him much more.

Great 2nd half and some cracking goals. With Miller, Vale, Spittal and Bair now surely certainties to play we’re starting to see a way of playing that works for us.

Yep what you say about miller was the change as wee davor in that position cant kick the ball more than 10 yards so when our full backs pushed on he couldnt find them, miller could and did. Vale coming on was great he roamed about all across the pitch inbetween their defense and midfield and going beyond them sometimes and their defenders didnt know where he was.

!st half wasnt as bad as being made out I felt.  we were in control easily but as only bair up top they were comfortable but we had something like 75% posession so all this about 1st half being terrible is wide of the mark.

Gent in for devine on saturday with miller and davor and spittal and vale behind bair for me with nicholson coming on later on for davor when hopefully we are still in game.

Last night worried me a bit when seeing the bench as there was not a midfielder on it. if Miller got injured again we have no one to play there.

Anyway a good night where we dispatched Livi relatively easy and all the martindale will know how to set up against us  chat was proved to be what it was and that is he is a crap manager and they are bottom of league for a reason.

    Onwards and upwards.

Read my post above. Mugabi was doing fine in the centre of the back three, as was McGinn at the right of the back three. But, to accommodate Butcher, who has been poor for a while now, both had to switch, which unsettled the defence. Blaney should've been on at that point to keep it settled, be he shit or not. The rot set in with that defensive change anyway, so the rest is ultimately inconsequential.

100%  correct mate. Blaney straight swap for casey. But his changes to accommodate butcher had our back 3 all over place. Kettlewell has us playing some decent stuff at times but that today is on him.

Raging as they aren’t that good certainly worst celtic team in yeard but they still beat us.

  4. The great thing that is going on just now is that everyone is thinking about new ideas on how to improve things. A great post on twitter from Grant Russell highlights loads of options which could improve us . These types of people and the new WS board are definitely giving me hope for the future. Keep the debates and ideas going guys.

  5. Echo what I'm sure everyone feels. StAndrew7 what a great post.

There will be different opinions for sure . Initial reaction from myself is WS retain a position with the professionals from Aus doing their stuff seems a win win.

Early stages obviously but a club our size needs to use analysis more as was spoken about in great detail by David on another post which was a really interesting read.

Smaller clubs in leagues all over Europe use these stats and are giving the big boys a fright.

I didn't say he wasn't simply that I'm far from convinced that he is. These labels are often academic and hard to prove one way  or the other. How many goals would the likes of Bair, Vale or other strikers score if they played for Hearts? You might disagree with my conclusion  and that's perfectly fine  but I hope you agree that there is some merit in my argument.

Not really but top 3 in league are imo kyogo then shankland then dessers/miovski based on last few years. Only reason shankland is 2nd is because he's at hearts and not one of other 2 so doesn't get same praise.

Who in your opinion is top 3 in league

We are such a frustrating team to watch. We do so many good things in a game and then feck it up by doing some really stupid shit.

We defended well as a team today for tge most part. Hearts have some gifted players and we kept our discipline well and made them play round about us.

The only save Kelly had to make in the first half was McGinns header which he was trying to deflect over the bar.

Second half we started really smartly on the front foot and put them under a fair bit of pressure. There were a fair few chances to get the ball in the net but we couldnt take any of them.

Ultimately we paid for that. Hearts made some positive changes. Vargas being the pick of the bunch. He looks a dangerous player.

That said the first goal is typical of our season. Straightforward free kick and we let the best striker in the league get a free header at it. I like Mugabi, but his one job in the team is to win headers and he let Shankland get the better if him.

The second goal is a sucker punch in injury time. We were throwing everyone (even Mugabi) forward. Thought SODs was pushed in the back in the run up. Maybe he should be stronger, but Decine got given a foul against seconds earlier for literally nothing. There is no consistency with these things and it makes a mockery of VAR.

Overall, decent performance at a difficult venue. Spittal would have made a difference. Hope whatever his issue is it isnt serious and we see him next week. We will need him.

Not sure what more SK can do about our defending. Team were clearly well drilled today on their gameplan but individual errors keep costing us. Just need to tough it out until the summer until we can change personnel.

Good post Joe and agree with all. We look well drilled but I felt his subs were poor. If and only if gent was injured he could have brought on buyabu to keep same balance.  After that was hit and hope from him .Seriously bevis rather than obika when chasing game up top. Shankland difference as he's a top player

I'm far from convinced he's the best striker in the league, although he may be the top scorer. Would he score as many if he played with Livingston, Ross County or St Johnstone?

Cmon that is a poor argument.  Would kyogo score as many if he was at those teams?

Shankland has been really good this season and scored lots of different types of goals. He's up there with kyogo and dessers as best in league and is miles in front of them for goals scored.

I like Paton. Gets a hard press at times but never hides and puts in plenty of effort.  However once Halliday fit then I would expect him to drop out as Davor Spittal and Miller ahead of him in my opinion

I'm with you Grizzly but I'd have halliday and miller sitting with Spittal and vale behind bair. Vale looks as if he's got something. Davor and paton as back up gives us bit of depth in there.

Paton is an okay midfielder without really specialising in anything. He doesn't do the dirty dogged midfield work, he doesn't play defence splitting passes, he doesn't carry the ball particularly well, and his finishing is poor. He's missed some chances in the past month or two that Spittal would devour.

He's decent and tidy and links the play, but that's about it.

I see where your coming from but I do feel he can do all the things you say he can't , however he doesn't do it often enough hence he's at us.  All about opinions as always  but a cracker I read on twitter today a well fan saying he'd drop spittall tomorrow. I mean he's easily our best player and I think anyone can see he's playing with a huge level of confidence at the moment. Some of his 1 touch pass and move is exceptional. Also Bair on Wed was rolling his foot over ball etc again confidence surging through him. It's a huge plus in players and emphasises points a lot make about being supportive.

We are another point clear of Ross Co so that's a positive.   If Kettlewell gives Obika a year extension then he can do one.

Totally grizzlyg. Can anyone tell me what obika can do now? He is seriously hopeless can't jump run pass shoot control I could go on. We were needing g someone on at that time to run in behind when they were pushing on

Except we got a point and moved up a place in the table. Like. Apparently everything has been the fault of SOD. SOD didn't start tonight and folk on twitter were cheering. I'll take any point right now

Agree here a point is gd . Regards SOD if he was playing 1st and 3rd for them don't happen imo . Devine was weak at both.

They played the ball on the deck far more often than we did, unlike us they didn't continually resort to the hoof ball. Indeed for their second goal the ball never left the surface. I'm in no way suggesting Morton were a silky deck playing team but the played the ball on the surface more than we did. Every time SOD , Kelly,  Mugabi, Miller, or Butcher got the ball you knew it was going skywards.

I dont think they did pal but that's football all about opinions.  I actually watched game again today on Iplayer and we did have some nice 1 touch stuff but went nowhere with it.

They weren't miles better but scored 1st and had bigger players than us who bullied us a bit and wanted it a wee bit more I felt.

I'm same as you in totally raging with result and wondering where we go next but I know something we can't give up.

  14. 3 hours ago, FirParkCornerExile said:

Morton managed it , it's really not that difficult and in many other games we've played the same hoofball when there is no wind at all, with the same pitiful outcomes.

Well they didn't did they. They got ball forward quickly. And played on our inability to defend so fair play to them .if you think they passed us of park by getting ball down and passing round us I will disagree with you on that .

  15. Like all I'm scunnered with that last night. Big Oakley done some damage to our defence .

Miller like others said really struggled with pitch and more importantly the wind as all players struggled to get it down. Their midfield 3 esp 1st half dominated and got ball forward early.

I felt when vale came on 57 mins he looked gd and him and bair were in middle in what was 352 but kettlewell panicked and sent on obika 10 mins later and moved those 2 wider which totally killed any momentum that was building and players not knowing what they were doing. The last 20 mins was like a game up park with your pals with players in positions they didn't know. How Nicholson never got on ill never know.

Butcher let Oakley run 20 yards into box without a tackle. Kelly standing off his line at inswinging corner. Spittal hitting outswinging corners when wind is with us. All just small things but by God amateur players know not to do those things.

I could go on and on but my biggest take is kettlewell picked wrong team (halliday should have been on from start to get stuck in with miller on later) and his subs totally wrecked any cohesion in team. Obika just can't do anything now.

Well, he had spent an entire season previously in our league, playing over thirty games and accomplishing pretty much the same as he had previously in his career, save for a stint in the lower leagues of Norway. Absolutely nothing of note.

So, the stick was entirely warranted. I'm sure he'd admit that. But just as much as the stick was warranted on his numbers before signing for us, so is the praise he's getting now.

    It works both ways.

Wasn't just you giving stick david was quite a few.

I can't agree with your "stick was entirely warranted" comment any player coming to us should get benefit of doubt initially in my book but that's another debate.

  17. 11 minutes ago, Richie said:

To be fair to Bair the two 1 on 1s were good saves, the first one was a Martinez-esque save spreading himself, the second was a good save at Bair's feet.

They weren't wild misses or anything.

I think for the first one Bair would maybe have had more luck if he dinked the keeper like he did the other week.

Yep agree with that richie plus his "offside" goal was some finish showing confidence, his run to the left then darted right on breakaway and Spittal put him in for him to dink it just wide was great movement from him and also he was waiting for a tap in from paton who made bad pass.

A big thing I noticed last night and will continue is defenders are starting to fear him giving room to our other players which again is another arrow to his bow.

Someone with his size strength and speed will always be capable of something in our league and why I couldn't believe stick he was getting earlier in season without having had a chance with us .

Bevis is same and yes he is bambi on ice at times but he has all the attributes of bair that I mentioned and can use them in different ways hence the reason I at present always want him in the team.

  18. 2 hours ago, Kmcalpin said:

If its possible, its tempting to keep the same team for consistency. However, given the nature of last night's game, we may have picked up a few bumps and bruises i.e. Halliday. Apart from that, will some players need a rest given they'll only have a few days to recover?

    Keep same team for me.

Regards time to recover I feel there's far too much emphasis on this certainly at our level. It's more mental than physical I believe and a game v ross county then morton 3 days later is not champs league.

Our players train every day they are more than capable of playing every 3 days. Our best player Spittal on for full 90 last night when not needed tells me he's one of fittest in team and kettlewell obviously knows that also.

  19. Outstanding performance and best in a long while.

The movement between sods and bevis is something not normal in spl or motherwell teams but it produced gd results and fair play for kettlewell for trying it.

Spittal and bair are prime examples of not to judge before seeing how they play. Both are really kicking on.

Plus we now have options of bench and also building confidence.

Friday night is going to be a great old fashioned cup tie with 2 teams full of confidence and gd support behind them. I saw yesterday we had sold 1200 here's hoping that tonight plus sales at end of week can take us to 2k. Really looking forward to it with confidence.

I've had a season ticket for most of the past 28 seasons. Does that entitle me to moan about what I perceive as failings in how our Club is run and managed? I also hold my hands up when wrong, eventually. My life isn't sad, and I enjoy my job because I am good at it, but I also like to be critical of the team I've followed since I was 10. Live and let live.

I did say "some" and "generally"

Live and let live! but most can't be arsed with continuous negative boring people imo.

  21. I get that a forum is for all opinions and we can't all be positive but by God the last 24 hours have been negativity central. Some people really do have sad lives who just moan at anything. See the arseholes at your work that non stop say they hate their job moan at everything are generally also shite at their job. The same applies here in their football knowledge and so called support of their team. That guy/gal yesterday who said he hadn't been in 10 years but on moaning. Holy fuk that summed those sort of people up .

If he knows anything about Steve Clarke and the criteria he has for picking players, he'd be asking his agent to find him a move to an English Championship team then.

Yep because championship players in England other than some of our big 2s players are mostly better. Clarke has gave some from up here games I.e gallagher findlay considine etc god he even gave brophy the centre forward role so that I think can put that argument to bed.

James Forrest looking to go out on loan to get game time? I think I’d be happy getting a hold of him til the end of the season. He’s 34 but he’s still managed to get a few goals this season having only played a couple of games.
Might also stop the wee fker scoring against us.

I'd really like this to happen also. His professionalism , knows how to win and better than any of our attacking players makes it a no brainer if it was at all possible. He maybe thinks he can make euros squad.
