They can I’m afraid. Whether they will or not remains to be seen but if it comes down to us or St.Mirren for KvV then he will go there for the simple reason that they would be able to offer him more money than we could.

How much more can they pay than us  do you think?

    I wouldn't think more than 1 maybe 2k / 3k a week.

There's only 17 weeks till end May that's only max 50k surely to fuk we can't lose him to st mirren for that.

  2. personal opinion i cant see any downside of a tie up with some big gun. All their knowledge , expertise and players etc etc can only be a good thing.  Im reading a lot of the what ifs? this is bad thats bad etc etc when in reality anyyone wanting involved from so called big gun is obviously very astute in business and in all cases are billionaires and so the chance of them failing is a lot lower than some wee guy coming in with a couple of a million in his back pocket or continuing to be run by amateurs as a lot on here mostly say we are at the moment and have been for a while (not my view). Think of the positives.

What this situation should tell us is that we cannot rely on loan signings. They will either come in and do terribly like Shaw or do well like Biereth and end up becoming a loss risk.

Yes we shouldn't and can't rely on loan signings but hopefully we see more of biereths like from real big clubs like arsenal etc and not so much journeyman crap from league 2 in England.  Young players from top clubs like arsenal are hungry and talented , even championship clubs players are on different level as can be seen with Spencer and gent this season. Those 3 have arguably been our best players this season and certainly most exciting. If we can get some of those as loans every year it allayed to a good core then we should certainly improve I feel. Alas the good core at the moment is not there either.

  4. 7 hours ago, Spiderpig said:

Pish, the big English Premiership clubs like Arsenal are ruthless in situations like this they have no problem with recalling a player then immediately sending him out on loan elsewhere. You can guarantee if Biereth is off to Sheffield Wednesday as mentioned they will be paying more if not all of his wage than we did so a financial benefit to Arsenal who don't give a feck about the effect recalling the player has on other teams.

So it would not have matterd if we were 5th as you say and playing well the recall would still have happened.

Think your wrong here spider. Biereth wages are miniscule in a club like arsenal and reason he is away is quite simply better league for him to be tested in. Relegation battle for us or Sheffield we'd in championship is really not a question to answer in level of player he will be playing with or against.  They would im sure be 3rd in our league easily.

Like I say, sometimes these runs happen. Rangers actually have conceded two penalties this season, both in the league cup but those seem to go unmentioned because they don’t fit the agenda, just like the fact that up until last week Celtic had actually been awarded more penalties than they had this season. How does that work out then in the minds of the conspiracy theorists? Are the officials allowed to give penalties against them in the Cup but not the league or something?

This “penalty to Rangers, boo hoo it’s a conspiracy” is just silly wee boys talk and doesn’t stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever.

Stands up to loads of scrutiny.  Them and their pals from other side get nearly and I mean nearly every week a dubious decision in their favour and their fan boys in media deflect it.

If you think otherwise then up to you.

Our support is, quite frankly, fucking shite, bar from the small core of regular diehards who never miss a game.

I get the frustrations from all our fans now and theres no doubt apathy is one of biggest downfalls.  I myself have been at pretty much every game last 5 years but this year ive only been at 5 or 6 due to had other things on at start of season then realised that i cant be bothered as much as I was and not really missed it . Im going on sunday but really dont want to and thats down to in most part getting scudded from them that often with their fans lording it over us makes it not very enjoyable experience usually.

This is also the case with fans of all other teams and I feel if the league was upped to 16 with after 30 games a top 8 and bottom 8 with just 1 game each where you knew at start of season who you would play and where in split that it would give fresh impetus to a lot of teams. After the split teams that finished 1-4 would have 4 home games and 5-8 would have 3 home games with the same in bottom 8. Team 1 would have their 4 home games against 2345 and away against 678. Team 2 home against 3456 and  781 away etc etc.

I know it would make some teams having more away than home against certain teams but that happens the now with the split  and if teams know at start of season what happens then it makes it relatively fair IMO with all games meaning something up to split to secure more home games after

2 relegated with 3rd bottom in a playoff with 3rd from championship also means freshness every season and also easier for teams to get back promoted so no lengthy spells in seaside leagues that decimates teams e.g Falkirk, dunfermline, raith, accies, airdrie etc .

The amount of young scottish players not playing in our leagues is depressing and by expanding you would think they would get more of a chance and crowds would increase as not a lot of meaningless games and teams could build on good runs without playing one of them every 5 or so games

Teams in Scotland cannot grow due to nature of our league and I know all the usual will come out like we need 4 old firms a season etc but something needs to change as supports everywhere will continue to deplete as more and more will go to them as is being seen in aberdeen, dundee, gorgie and leith where traditionally people would go local but there are busses from these areas going to glasgow every week now.

After all that heres hoping sunday can give us some christmas cheer

I think we need to be playing 2 strikers as soon as we have 2 fit strikers available.

I feel he will go with 2 strikers against livi. St mirren were better side v us in cup game with their 3421 and sk dealt with this by matching up against them in league and whilst result was not success the performance obviously gave him hope to continue with it against glasgow 2 where our extra man in midfield helped to give us our best performances against them in years.

Lennon miller I feel was a wee bit slow on Saturday and I am certainly not criticising him as he is our great white hope and on the plastic pitch if its sticky he could get targeted by livi so I have a feeling he might get a wee rest

Lot of talk about this and that required and some slagging of players and even manager which is what a forum is all about I suppose . I am certainly in glass half full camp and up to now 4th equal with bottom 3 still to play plus adeen for 1st run of fixtures I'll stick my neck out and predict we will be 3rd by end of 1st round of 11 games.

Lots to be pleased about and this is our best team since turnbull arriyibi campbell etc

He's certainly fitter, but that's going to come with game time. That's a no-brainer.

And St Johnstone fans never said he was "total shite." He's clearly an athletic lad who isn't workshy. I heard it said that he does a lot of running, can't be faulted for his effort, and will absolutely try his best. It's just that his best isn't good enough.

He's a striker who doesn't score goals. That's the one factor we cannot get away from.

There are two factors that worry me about this guy:

Fans are talking about him as if he's 18 years old. He's not. He's 24 years old. He's not a "project" or any of the other nonsense we've heard talked about him. When a player hits his mid-20s in today's game, what you have is pretty much what you're going to get. And with Bair, that's nine career goals in just shy of 100 games. The most he's ever scored in one season is four, and that was in the Norweigan 2nd tier.

And second, because he came in with such a poor reputation, it seems the bar has been set extremely low for him in our fan's eyes. Stuff like "he managed to make a few decent passes," "His knockdowns are decent" and so on. I'm sorry, but when you play professional football for a living, that kind of thing should be the very least you're delivering.

And come on, let's not even try to draw a comparison between a guy with the goalscoring record mentioned above and someone who, by the age Bair is now had almost 50 career goals to his name and was playing in League One down south.

Granted, Van Veen wasn't always the ultimate goal machine at Motherwell that he was last season, but he hit double figures in both his seasons here.

I'll say it again. Theo Bair may be a very nice lad, and he may try really hard and put in a lot of effort. But he's not a striker. Certainly not at the level we play at, anyway.

You seem to have developed an agenda against Bair who has been whether you like it or not an important part of a team that is functioning pretty well with room to improve.

Lost 2 games 1-0 to a st mirren team who are unbeaten and to a team where we haven't won in league in 20 odd years and in both games all agree were fine performances .

You suggest Wilkinson and Shaw now on what they have done in past and suggested ferrie previously for god knows what reason however in life the people who always look to the past are generally not as successful as those who prioritise the future.

Your Bair rants are also starting to look a little bit personal like others who used to post on here slating every midfielder like ohara.spittall etc that kept cornelius out team as he was a local boy. Fact was and is they were better than him same as Bair is better than Ferrie.

Bair imo is doing OK as part of our 3421 formation and I like others hope he makes you eat your words.

I can't argue with that but that's 2, 1-0  defeats in a row now and a very distinct prospect of another defeat next week as well so all of the good start we had in the 1st 4 games will be undone.

Unless the players we have start scoring it's going to be a long haul till January till we can get someone else in.

Spider there is no way its going to be a long haul.

This team is not far away and the performance today was as good as I've seen at ibrox in years.

Yes the strikers aren't van veen level but our midfield 4 is playing best football at fir park for a while.

After today and also seen some celtic games this year those 2 are nowhere near the level they have been in last couple of seasons.

Only downside I see for us is if we get more injuries to our midfield I think we'd be struggling as there's no one to come in.

I know we are beat again but there are plenty positives in last 2 games against 2nd and 3rd in league.

  10. Bair is playing as a target man rather than a striker as I read someone else point out and this sums him up I think.

By only having him up top it allows our 4 in midfield to get a grip on the game and hence slattery paton and Spittal are all having gd games recently going forward whilst miller sits deeper and keeps things ticking over.

Curtis main done similar role when turnbull arriyibi and hastie were tearing it up and he also got some stick on here.

We will switch between I up which will help us dominate midfield and 2 up which will mean more direct route as season develops I feel on a horses for courses basis.

He hasn't really had a chance though, has he? And let's be honest, if we have strikers on our books who have less potential than Theo Bair? They shouldn't be at a club in the Scottish Premiership.

He's had a few appearances and done nothing and that's not me writing him off as he's only 17 I'm just stating the obvious.

Kettlewell sees him every day and that is also reason he's not had a chance as likelihood is he doesn't do anything in training either.

Bair is a far better option than ferrie at this time

  12. 13 minutes ago, David said:

Yeah, no disagreement there. I'd just rather we gave someone like Ferrie that chance in the team rather than someone like Bair.

Still, we'll see how it goes I guess.

Ferries has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he could do anything.  Let's not get blinded because he's from our youth.

He is doing not bad imo and better than some have said he would do.

  14. like most  have commented he does not give of much confidence that he can score a lot of goals but I will reserve judgement until hes been in team a few weeks and see for myself.

all about opinions and even last year lots on here were saying spittal was shite before kettlewell even though he had at that time outwith van veen highest goals and assists. Mcginn was getting slaughtered weekly again imo was our best defender. Some said he couldnt play centre half although he played rcb for hibs loads. before him ohara was shit and last year won player of year for st mirren as well as players player of year. I could go on but you see the point .

He might just need an arm around him a couple of early goals and hes away which Im certainly hoping for as Obika and Wilkinson are also not giving off great vibes although Wilkinson goal on saturday showed what hes capable off. Ferrie is also nowhere near ready and I didnt understand when someone said hes impressed in lc group games as I certainly never saw anything to suggest that. I cant remember him even having a shot but hes only 17 so plenty of time there.

This belief that smaller players are "too lightweight" has surely been recognised as absolute nonsense now that we've spent a few years watching Celtic players under 5'8 and weighing ten stone soaking wet absolutely tearing the leagues big, strong defenders a new arsehole on a weekly basis?

It's about getting in the right players, and using a formation that suits them. We do neither. It's working for us just now because we're fresh off a 2nd half of a season with Van Veen playing like Mbappe, but with his goals now gone there's every chance we end up looking like the team we were watching in the latter half of Alexander's run.

Devoid of creativity, and full of big lumps who aren't capable of playing football.

He won't. He'll be looking to make an impact so he can sign for a new team when his contract with us expires in May of next year.

Big difference between kyogo.hatate abada et al and tierney David and comparing them is just silly. He is  imo and others too lightweight because up to this point he has shown he can't do things that the aforementioned celtic players do so his deficiencies get highlighted more.

Our most successful team of recent times that got to 2 cup finals was made up of 6ft battlers and whilst the football was grim it worked results wise.

I now feel that we have to go this way as the quality of attacking players/wingers that we can afford are usually not good enough(van veen apart) to beat any of the defenders in the league on a 1 on 1 scenario.

Kettlewell also feels this hence the 352 since he came in and not playing any so called more skilfull players.

I'm finally going to say it. Stephen O'Donnell is stealing a wage from us. Absolutely no impact on the game ans again had an absolute shocker.

    New RB required.

Disagree jonny as apart from mcginn who got motm him slattery and Spittal were only others who looked semi competent. Our best moments were when those 4 at different times combined down right hand side .

Definitely need a striker or the 2 there just now improve drastically which is a doubt going by last 3 games but still time.

Hope the new midfielder is an upgrade on miller so we can feed him in slowly as today I felt he got a bit dominated which is to be expected I suppose.

Every time we are in the league cup it throws up more questions than answers but least we look odds on to qualify and likely as top seeds which is in most part down to kettlewells professionalism I feel.

That's fair comment re signing the new contract and we would still be where we are now, but it still should have been offered, recognising potential in our Academy players and maximising the fees generated when they inevitably move on is something we have not been particularly good at over the years, except maybe Turnbull. It's something the club could improve on, but I get the impression that the current board are not as financially astute as they could be on matters like that.

Think that's harsh on board and im sure contract was offered. If you look at any club in Scotland im sure we do as good or better than most in bringinging in funds for our youth so the slight on board is easy to make i dont believeits true..As has been said by others max's dad would have had huge impact on his decision and I feel he was never going to sign new deal. He is going to sturm graz maybe for seemingly 10k a week but if he hadn't played last 13 games of season for us he would likely still have been able to get a better contract than we would have offered at an epl 1 or 2 club. Dean Cornelius is away to Harrogate Town and I'm sure max johnston would have got similar as a minimum.

  18. Reading the report on game seems lennon miller quite involved with shots tackles and hitting free kicks which I feel is quite telling. He certainly looks very accomplished and although only 16/17 is a big boy so here's hoping.  Goal for Wilkinson another bonus.

Defo, there is no way we could match what utd paid. Has made his fortune so hopefully could offer him something within our wage structure

I think (and this applies to Max Johnston as well) wherever he ends up, if he wants to develop then he needs to be playing regular football. Could be that he'd develop more playing for Harrogate Town 30 times next season than sitting on Preston North End's bench (or in their stand) and making 7 sub appearances...

Definitely agree here. Dean was never going to get a game for preston who are a mid range championship team. Campbell who was far ahead of him aged 22 had to go at that time to mid range league 1 team. League 2 is best he could get based on his performances for us I'd imagine.

Hope he does well the same as everyone else on here .

What do you expect Johnston to do FFS Motherwell have looked after me since I was 12 so I better not move away and take the no doubt life changing cash he's potentially been offered.

A chance to get regular match time, play at a higher level. Maybe in a new country, earning a wage that might set him up for life, aye its a tough decision.

All this club loyalty pish is ancient history,  footballers are like any other workers they follow the money if they get the chance. The loyal ones are usually those those who are not good enough to get regular game time or attract transfer offers and stay loyal right up to the point they get released.

If you think what's happened is good and acceptable for good of our club then we will agree to differ.

Your 2nd point I am 100% on board with as I said in previous post it's great to see young scottish boys kick on.

3rd point and yes loyalty in a sense cannot be put in front of betterment to yourself however in any walk of life there's different ways of doing things.

He’s made 17? appearances for us, he owes us absolutely fuck all.

What about all the youngsters that join us when they are twelve and get booted when they are 17/18, do we owe them too? Or does it just work one way?

Disagree gazzy . Anyone in any industry looks after themselves 1st obviously but if max is as sure of himself as all the targeted media about himself then he could have signed a deal like turnbull did for example. I'll caveat that with saying I appreciate everyone's different and I don't know ins and outs.

I will be delighted for him as a young ex well playinh scotsman if he goes on to do like allan campbell or lewis ferguson .

As for all those that get put out at 17/18 I'm sure the club never promise any of them they will be next Ronaldo and I'm very aware of how it affects people and yes the club will be should be managing this I'd hope in a correct manner.
