  1. Only if Paul Kinnaird is his replacement on the bench! Don't consider myself a boo boy, but my god the two of them severely tested my happy clappy persona!
  2. Perhaps 'Flow is just playing mind games with the opposition
  3. Kuipers is truly a 1 off. He makes some unbelievable stops, and then a moment of madness can spoil it all. A wonderful servant to Brighton who is possibly the most passionate football player I have ever seen, but he is increasingly dividing the support in terms of whether he should be no 1. Competition with Buzz appears to have sharpened up Kuipers this season, and until last night at least, he looked like a good no 1. If Buzz gets a couple of decent performances under his belt (which will depend a lot on the defence in front of him IMHO) then I think he could take off and quickly make a name for himself down here. If things dont go his way, he will simply be remembered as yet another keeper that Kuipers saw off. I'll try to dig out last week's proggy - there is a good article on Buzz in there which I'll post in the appropriate forum for anyone thats bored. Buzz talks well of Motherwell, and Uncle Phil in the article and it may be of some interest?
  4. It pains me to say this, but believe it or not Buzz did no to bad last night - he even managed to get booked before he did anything (whilst coming onto the pitch, he picked up the ball from the penalty spot and walked into the goals with it delaying the penalty). He also saved a penalty later in the game. If he left to further his career he may have got it wrong - although he will make a name for himself if he displaces Kuipers (a living legend down here). That said, its not too difficult a choice between living in darkest Lanarkshire or Sussex by the Sea...
  5. Don't disagree with you, but think its most important that something of this nature is done right, rather than rushed because the time/sentiment is right. If/when we are re-homed I would like to see space to remember past employees of the club - be they cup winners, groundsmen, tea ladies, supporters or even Radio Scotland pundits... as long as there is a wee story to tell. I'd also like to see them recognise folk that are alive, as well as dead.
  6. Out of curiosity, would you feel the same about JG's team if the average age was closer to 30 rather than 20? I am quite excited about the youf coming through, but do think we are gambling to a certain extent that they will be able to maintain performances over a season etc. I have no questions in my mind about their raw talent, ability etc and the goals we have seen certainly suggest that they have technique, but I also wonder if I have been somewhat carried away simply because they are young stars of the future, rather than mid/end career pros?
  7. Watched the Utd v Hearts game and was reasonably impressed with both teams who I thought continued to try to play football despite the physical nature of the game. Having only watched our youngsters on the TV, it did cross my mind about how well they would stand up to some of the bullies in both of last night's teams? Am too used to seeing certain Utd defenders impose themselves on our back 4 at set pieces, and the Hearts midfield (for what now seems like decades, or am I simply thinking of ex hearts players at Airdrie?) bully our midfield into submission. Any thoughts on how we will cope with more physical teams this year?

  9. Loved Gannon's passion last night - guess we now have the sort of manager that many have craved for over the years! I also like the comment from the Official Site - Yes we have lost 4 out of 6 - but I can see progress being made in every game. I believe that the bottom 4 or 5 clubs will also have to improve over the season to match our improvement over the season, and can't find many reasons why we should be glass half empty going into the new season. It will be an up and down season because of the age, and relative inexperience of the team - but then we always seem to have up and down seasons!
  10. Another who has gone too soon! My thoughts are with his family Thanks for the memories RIP
  11. Quite right, time to move on and get behind JG. That said, I, like countless Brighton, Wolves, Reading, Milwall fans (that I know) look forward to seeing McGhee build a team of his own, full of players that he has signed, that are obviously better than what he has already at Aberdeen...... And, having said that, we should no be too hasty to forget the man he was in the aftermath of Uncle Phil - like him or loathe him, he deserves untold credit for holding the club together in difficult times! Personality aside, I believe McGhee was good for us, but that we were just as good for him!
  12. Talked to a Stockport fan at work today - apparently he's more Seib Dykstra than Stevie Woods (Woods Woods).
  13. Still in a state of shock - well done to all the boys! Fantastic result - JG may well be a genius!
  14. Perhaps the older guys need to have a long look at themselves - just not good enough!! Hope the youngsters can continue to make this impact over the coming season
  15. Am looking forward to hearing Gannon explain the 8 missed opportunities (according to the BBC)! Tough luck for the Bairns!
  16. Tell you what, what a fantastic performance from the youngsters. No matter what the standard of the opposition, they still have to do the business!
  17. Bring back Malpas...I can't be doing with this excitement! 3-0 - I am dreaming now!!
  18. Ruddy ####! 7k/week for a League One club!!! Perhaps puts some sense of perspective on JGs recent signings? Good luck to Stephen.
  19. Reality is that many clubs in League One and above can simply outspend us many times over - whether on transfer fees, or on wages. Yes, there are a lot of overpaid haddies in the lower leagues in England, but there are also some real gems. Gannon's reputation suggests that he has a knack for unearthing some of these guys, and deserves time to show what he can do. If we are getting them to come up and they produce, no doubt they will move on and hopefully make us some money. With the relatively short-term contracts for Coke and Jennings, I can't see that we have a lot to loose if they do not work out for some reason. I've said a few times that I can't believe how ordinary some ex SPL players look in League One. The likes of Alan MacCormack who I thought was a decent player whilst on loan to us, has IMHO looked like a shadow of his former self since he went to Southend. I realise he is playing a different role at Southend, but frankly looks to be playing well within himself, and enjoying the extra time and space that is on offer in the lower leagues down here.
  20. Northampton were arguably unlucky to go down last year, but went down IMHO mainly because their team underperformed. Coke did catch the eye in the little I saw of them, and I think he certainly has something. Do not think he is a polished SPL player, but from what I have seen, he certainly has the potential to be, and perhaps more? JG has been quietly efficient in these signings (whatever happened to our reliable sources at FP??). We shouldn't underestimate how much his reputation has in getting some of these players - there are still more than a fair few down here that can't understand him 'taking a gamble' in Scotland when so called better offers were surely just round the corner (not my words). This season coming will certainly be a roller coaster with our reasonably raw, but talented team (assuming the next half dozen signings are not all seasoned internationalists).
  21. Clarky against Utd (all those years ago). Kirky's end of season 4 also remains a vivid memory. Will remember Porter's in what I think was his last game for us - but probably because it was the last time I will see him in the C&A.
  22. Absolutely. Its political doublespeak - are they European or are they not (am not arguing either way)? When I have applied for Visa's in the past I have required to supply flight and accommodation details etc. Doubt our Albanian friends could have done that 4 weeks ago - but perhaps they have wasted a week???
  23. The fact that anyone playing in a European competition requires a Visa to play (or watch) a game is a farce! Whilst I am sure this will be sorted out, I'd hate to progress in a sporting competition because of political gamesmanship.
