  1. I had heard of rumours a wee while back that Leitch isnt popular with the club hierarchy, he has done well with the academy but I had heard last year at one point of rumours of people trying to force Leitch into leaving the club. Probably nonsense but just stuff that i've heard from people in the past.

    Ask them why.

  2. SFA source laughed at the notion of Hamilton trumping Motherwell in terms of Project Brave.

What he did say was that Motherwell have a "loner," attitude to development. He has helped just about every club in Scotland except Motherwell.

He mentioned that there is funding available to have players sent overseas on loan via the football education trust. He bit at the idea that our under 20's should be out at summer football clubs, and reappearing at Fir Park in November/December. Said it was easy to arrange and any manager would be pleased to see fit, newly experienced young players appear on his training ground mid-season.

The only cost to the club would be the flights and hotel cost to monitor our players overseas.

Said the best way to do it would be to arrange the funding a season in advance, and apply every year for additional funding.

    ................

Side note - he mentioned that the primary role of development squads is to prepare players for a career in professional football. He said that the Old Firm get a lot of stick for not bringing players to their first team, but pointed out how many former Old Firm youth get a career elsewhere.

To that end - he said consider every player developed by Motherwell who has a career in professional football as a credit to the clubs development programme. No matter who they play for, and no matter what level. He said these days becoming a first team regular for the club is a welcome bonus due to the amount of predatory clubs snapping up promising youngsters from academies.

It would be interesting to see a list of professional players developed by Motherwell.

Apprenticeship levy to be laid against clubs with a payroll over £3 million - will hit Celtic, Rangers and others in Scottish football, not Motherwell.

  3. Was at Bradford City v MK Dons last week and thoroughly enjoyed it ... great to see so many claret and amber scarves. Mate and I both reckoned it was Spl equivalent but 17000 crowd and atmospheric ground under lights gave it a real sense of occassion even with less than 100 away fans. McCall has them playing good football

Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Biggest crowd I saw at Fir Park was v St Mirren, 1977.........26,000.

Now 6,000 is cause for celebration.

  4. Thought as much.

And what's your point? I was at games in February and I'll be back end March for the run in. Just like anyone else I can see highlights and stream full games overseas.

Oh, and I pay my sub to The Well Society. Are you getting to be that petty wee internet stalker we all read about? Cannae wait to see a post from me so you can try to score a pitiful point to make your pitiful wee life feel better?

    Just askin'

  6. Now turned 60 I have followed the Well for over 45 years, have some shares, joined the well society, have worked at the club, and was also involved in the trust. I went home and away and introduced my 3 kids to the 'joys' of following the Well. I have had some wonderful times that old firm fans just will never understand, and most importantly met some terrific people. Just a month ago 7 of us who all met through MFC had a wonderful meal together to bid one of our number a fond farewell to his new life in the States. I have gained a huge amount by being a supporter and would never indulge in a 'boycott'.......but then I realised perhaps as others I have been 'boycotting' for a few years as my level of attendance has dropped from season ticket holder to maybe 1 in 3 home games and very few away. In fact, living away from the area, when I do go now the primary motive is to see the friends I have made over the years.

For me a defining moment was the Celtic Cup Final when we just didn't turn up or compete. There was a defeatist attitude that day and in many ways has been ever since, a mild acceptance of our place in the scheme of things which I believe affects the attitude shown on the park. We are not daft, we know we are a smaller club but as others have proved smaller clubs can do great things or at least bust a gut trying and that is what I see missing..... to me we use the lack of resource as a ready made excuse, rather than genuinely strive to be the best we can possibly be.

I look at a team full of English non league players and think how can a support identify with these players, who with the exception of Moult are of lesser quality than we had or more worryingly than others seem to bring in. We are trying to find a nugget in the midden to sell on, not build a team playing exciting football, be competitive in the top 6 or win a cup, and that is why the apathy is growing. If that is the sum of our ambition and this is the level of excitement, what is the point of travelling all over the country and spending a fortune.

There is a built in excuse for failure and when that situation exists failure is what will happen.

I can't pretend to have all the answers but what struck me is the apathy amongst us older ones rather than anger on Saturday. It is as if the support has given up as well....and that is a real worry.

    Excellent post.

  7. Posted elsewhere on this site that Alan Burrows prefers a DoF model but finances don't allow it at a club like ourselves currently.

According to reports? It's been talked about and posted on here since the start of the season who made the recruitment decisions. Also mentioned at the AGM.

COO, not CEO, by the way.

Hence why I said variation of the model.

Someone has to take responsibility for the squad development. I'd be happy to see Flow, Leitch and A.N. Other take on a type of Liverpool transfer committee role.

You've seen me moan often enough about the decision to award eight playing contracts to guys aged thirty-two plus. A staggering decision in the modern game.

I don't want the club to bully or impose players on managers. Equally I don't want managers having a free reign on the football side. Those days are long gone, due to clubs being saddled with woeful squads such as ours.

  8. No opinion to the new manager.

Can we have a new club policy of the CEO actually giving a fuck who is signed for the club?

According to reports, "McGhee had full control over the football side of the club."

Look at the squad he left behind and weep.

We should maybe be looking at a form of Director of Football plus coach. While not a perfect model, better than rolling everything on the ridiculous decisions of one man.

  9. No, what it means is that regardless of whether you are right or wrong, you have all the moral fortitude and social etiquette of a piss stained wino.

    Do you still agree?

    No I don't agree.

You clearly don't like admitting you are wrong.

  10.

Just a matter of time. I suspect he will be in hiding somewhere in Fir Park. I stood next to Flow during the Malpas protest and its now come down to him to wield the sword on the current manager.

    Har har.

Fliw is the problem as much as McGhee

  11. I have to say, I do find your work very entertaining. You have the whole thick as pig shit, purple nosed, green bottle in brown paper bag carrying ranty man caricature off to a tea.

    Does that translate into -

"CMWellfan has been right all year."

    If it does, I agree.

  12.

McCall, with a better side and larger budget than McGhee, had 6-0, 5-0 losses against Rangers, in fact his aggregate against them was 23-3 (if you include losing to their new incarnation in the 3rd division). Chuck in a 5-0 against Celtic, 5-1 against Dundee United plus 6 different 4-0 losses and he was allowed to stick around.

    So settle down.

    Oh be quiet.

We are talking about sixes and sevens against Hearts and Aberdeen, never mind Celtic.

    Enough with the apologist crap.
