  1. looking back on Saturday, a very professional performance. some nice goals in the second half as well as some pretty decent football. Banana skin avoided.

Though Foley done well when he came on.

Lamie for Campbell was a weird sub, would liked to have seen Cornelius.

Watt and Jock Brown kept referring to Dec as being exceptional which I found bizarre given he had next to nothing to do.

Favourable ties in the next rounds and a good chance to go and have a pop, Hibs  probably suits us more than being away to Livi, Killie, St johnstone etc.

  2. For the sake of pure speculation and a view to next season. Connor shields at QOTS worth a look?

Started at Albion rovers, got a big move to Sunderland which never really worked out and had a few moves since, 9 goals in 17 games this season, 3 assists. Out of contract in May, still only 23.

    Anyone know more about him?

That's how it goes though, isn't it? He's gone from the captain and one of our best players to a total fraud who's cheating the club by pretending he's injured and someone who's refused to play another game until we remove a top secret trigger from his deal. All based entirely on media nonsense, which has never been mentioned by the outlet since.

Now certain sections of our fanbase are revelling in him not being played for Scotland, totally ignoring the fact that he's not started a game of football since January and probably isn't fit enough anyway.

Oh wait, I forgot. He is fit. He's just kidding on that he isn't.

couldn't have said it better myself, those sections have driven themselves nuts with the conspiracy theories they are cooking up in their heads..

Nobody from club or Dec himself has denied that clause was in contract . At the AGM question was asked and Burrows answered as it stands Dec is out of contract end of this season well yes as it stands he would be as not started another game that was required . If false news should have been announced as such so imo definitely has some truth in it . I have no problem if club keep it in house as Burrows said himself all contracts are personal .If  Gallagher misses out on Euros he will know himself if he stuffed up his only chance of playing at a major tournament. These contracts are normal now as Balagun just triggered another year extension at Rangers in last game so not unusual . Only player and club know full story but sure it will come out eventually what the real circumstances were but not until player has left club .

'if it was false news the club should have announced as such' and 'I have no problem if club keep it in house as Burrows said himself all contracts are personal' - huge contradiction here, like  you said the club don't have to announce anything, and probably never will, Dec will leave in the summer and that's that, there isn't going to be some shock finale, You have absolutely no idea what has gone on, none of us do and based on that, surely taking the word of the club and Dec himself that he is indeed injured as opposed to a single article in the daily record seems the more sensible option?

what happens if he plays on Saturday and Triggers this magic extension where does that leave your wild theories?

Not only is he on the bench but a centre mid has been preferred to him.

O'Donnell rested too, good for us given our game on Saturday.

In a game where we were likely to dominate large spells of possession, Mctominay made perfect sense last night, someone that can take the ball out from the back and build. I don't think it is a case of being preferred to Gallagher, the game just didn't suit someone who's main attributes are defensive, doesn't take a football genius to figure that out.

I think Gallagher's injury although suspiciously timed is just that, really bad timing, Gallagher was absolutely nailed onto to start after his performances against Serbia particularly, there is no way he would risk that surely, if he wanted the move in the summer I don't think the club would have been difficult to deal with regarding that, certainly not enough to drag it on for the best part of two months before he was back in squads.

everyone seems to be tripping over themselves to make up conspiracy theories without having any evidence, other than an article in the daily record which should be taken with the slightest pinch of salt

just Imagine this, could he actually have been injured, MENTAL, I KNOW !!

Gallagher has found himself in a position that no one would have anticipated, he owe's the club nothing at all, he was good for us, we were good for him, one last decent pay day for him coming I am sure, thanks for your service, next.

Leaving it till 3 days before the game ! Even if there is a stream and I hope there is one they are not allowing much time for fans to sign up.

Not saying they will miss out on 000’s of customers but you can imagine a few will think I will leave it now, especially if it not announced very shortly.

Seems a little odd to leave it this late. Makes me wonder if the clubs could not reach an agreement ?

Obviously it would be good to know if we can watch the game but I can't the imagine the lack of announcement by now will put people off.

surprised one of Burrows fan boys on twitter aren't at his front door looking for an answer.

I saw a post on Facebook this morning saying that streaming details will be released soon, or words to that effect. Given Cup rules on gate split, I wonder if MFC will receive a cut of streaming income?

I was thinking it would be a fairly decent gesture to let Fortmartine keep all 'gate receipts' however I don't imagine they are shy of a few quid?

It’s the balance of options in the middle rather than enough. Foley now back in training, a loan opportunity now unlikely. Plenty of willing takers, rightly or wrongly - have to trust the club have seen his development best served around the first team environment.

Fair point, after posting I was going through the 'enough options' in my head and only really came up with Polworth in CM, and without knowing too much positionally about Cornelius he looks more of a tenacious battling midfielder, as opposed to a creator, would that be correct?

with the Scottish cup coming up, we might get a chance to see him along with the likes of Semple and Devine and the sooner we can secure safety in the league Alexander might take a look to see whether or not it's worth keeping them around going into next season?

Agree with that. In the case of Declan Gallagher, he was excellent for us from July 2019 - March 2020. Just what we needed, a solid centre half who was comfortable on the ball.

This season though for whatever reason he just hasn’t looked the same player. There could be a few reasons for that which we will never really know, but personally I suspect the added pressure of being captain plus perhaps having one(or both) eye on his next move especially after playing a big part in the national sides Euro qualification may have contributed to that.

Whatever it is if he does want to be elsewhere then it’s best for all parties that he goes.

couldn't agree more regarding O'Donnell, I think it comes down to expectations, expecting an international player, he has been fairly consistent all season, which is fairly hard to come by these days, Allan Campbell is often praised for how consistent he is. If O'Donnell was happy to hang around then i'd be all for it, we could do MUCH worse.

Does Dean want to be retained though? How long does he wait?

At his age he needs to be playing games and this has been a year of complete inactivity for him...in our squad he is probably in the unique position of being unable to get into our team and also from being unable to get out on loan.

why can't we ship him out on loan? i'd say we have enough options in the middle?

  10. I didn't have a good feeling about winning on Saturday, saying that I didn't expect to lose by that score line, conceded very poor goals. I'm not one for blaming the plastic park usually,  but the players just don't seem to be able to stay on there feet at all, it looked as though Alexander tried to get around playing football by going direct (which was effective V st Mirren a few weeks ago) it didn't work, evidently.

as frustrating as results like these are I normally don't let them get to me too much, I can accept they happen every so often, nature of supporting a club with a budget like ours, my one gripe though is that we had quite a few of them this season. Those sort of results have to be few and far between.

Spot on, Adams harks back to the bertie voghts days, if you had ever eaten shortbread or Haggis you were  in the squad, guys like Adams, and Mc Burnie should never be near the squad, never have been and never will be interested in Scotland.

Meanwhile we have the likes of Gilmour,  Turnbull and a few others playing regularly for top clubs and not getting near the squad.

Mcburnie is an easy target, purely because he hasn't been very good, which is fair doos, If Che Adams comes in and starts banging them in, I am sure you won't be arsed. I notice you didn't mention Lyndon Dykes, is that because he has been the total reverse of Mcburnie and put in a solid shift up top?

I am in total agreement that Turnbull should have been in the squad, probably the best player outside Rangers in the league however I accept that he is battling for a spot in the most competitive part of the team and Clarke (rightly so maybe?) is remaining loyal to the players that got us there.

Gilmour is an interesting one, I would love to see him in the squad but surely none of us can sit here and say he merits it right now, he isn't playing enough football to be in with a shout, Both Turnbull and Gilmour are the future of the Scottish midfield and there time will come sooner or later.

I can't think of many more who are hard done by not to be in the squad? Ryan Gauld maybe, can't claim to have seen him play a single minute since he left Dundee utd so I couldn't say either way.

Bartley, Pittman, Forrest, Guthrie....I think their full backs have been better than ours so you could have Devlin and Serrano in there.  I'd also say Mullin is probably better than any wide player we have at the moment.  Efe Ambrose would probably start in our team and are guys like Sibbald, Lawson, Holt, lesser players than Crawford, O'Hara, Maguire, Polworth etc? Don't think so. Crawford is here because he hasn't featured at Livingston this season.

If you look at most teams outside the Top 4 you could probably pick 4 or 5 from each that would play for any other team and the reason for that is there really isn't a lot between any of the teams.

I think 5 or 6 is a bit of a stretch, other than Pitman and possibly Guthrie I don't think any of them are much better than what we have, Possibly on par but they certainly don't walk into our team.

  13. Win would have been nice but a point isn't the worst in the world. A good performance for the most part, some better decisions in the final 3rd it could have been all three. Clean sheet as well which is nice considering we have shipped goals last two weeks.

Crawford was excellent, Magloire grew into it. Hard to have a pop at any of the performaces.

  14. A lot of folk on twitter annoyed at Johnstone being dropped. He done okay on Saturday, nothing more nothing less, he turned 17 about 8 weeks ago, we need all the experience we can get on the park just now, he will get plenty of chances, we need points on the board first.

Not the time to be chucking boys in at the deep end, whether you agree or not O'Donnell is the sensible approach.

I may have missed  something  on here previously ( due to the shit you have to take sometimes on this site  i don't always trawl  through the vitriol before posting (Silly me eh)) but i have checked team stats for the past few years and as I thought Barry Maguire is always listed as a defender, So why are we not playing him as one .  Is that too sensible. ? I seek forgiveness in advance if i have offended any of the usual demigods  of all things MFC on here by daring to post this, :banghead:

Not the worst idea in the world, although we are already very short in the middle of the park so with an injury list as long as ours we can't sacrifice another body that can play in the middle.

  16. 16 hours ago, Kmcalpin said:

Is there a case for replacing Magloire with Lamie and Polworth with Watt?

Lamie V Magloire, you have a case. I went with Magloire cause he is an unknown quantity, it's hard to judge him on last Saturday because the whole team were rotten, he also add's a bit of pace, he may be suspect to the odd heart in mouth moment where as we know Lamie is suspect to them.

Polworth v Watt, I think Watt would put in a smashing shift in Midfield, but I don't think now is the time for square pegs in round holes. would we lose Watt's ball carrying if we played him in the middle?

  17. Injury situation hasn't improved ahead of tomorrow's game by the sounds of things, Campbell and o'hara doubts. would like to see us line more conservatively;

                                      kelly

           O'Donnell Magloire Mcginley

    Johnstone                                     Carroll

          maguire Crawford polworth

                        Watt cole/long

Look at the players we let go who would do a far better job in this current squad,  Peter Hartley a born leader and a guy who gave 100%, may have not been technically the best but played for the badge, Richard Tait gave everything every game, Adam Livingstone better than the full backs we have now.

This is absolute nonsense, Hartley and Tait were done with us, they were great servants on the park and good leaders in the dressing room however there time was up. As for Adam Livingstone, every Motherwell fan going wanted him to get a run in the team, it never happened for one reason or another, he is though now in playing league 2, to say he is better than any left back on the books is way off the mark.

I have said before, and stand by it, that our own youth players seem to be protected from fans which is understandable, one of our own and all that but if Maguire was signed from Solihull moors he wouldn't be getting as easy a ride.

  19. 3 minutes ago, GazzyB said:

Nah it's not. He had a decent season or two and then got dropped for Turnbull and has since then clearly not given a fuck. It was the exact same on the rare occasion he got to play when Turnbull was keeping him out the team. Sent off a few weeks ago and stood around laughing and then gives a penalty away today needlessly.

    He just doesn't care.

He had a good season last year, whilst Turnbull was out injured. Polworth only signed for us in the summer turnbull picked up his injury.

I'm all for having a go at a player for not pulling their weight but if your going to do it, make sure your not spouting shite.
