It's all just rumours anyway but I'd rather have a good older player than a so so younger one ...looks like Slattery will be off...I might be in minority but Davor still has a bit to go for me...maybe a full pre season will help

Davor has time on his side to allow him to develop into a good SPL defensive midfielder.

Slattery is probably looking for a fresh start post-injury, which is understandable.

I agree with that but all those players are 30 or older by the time the new season starts.

According to 10 years of Premier League data, the prime age for a midfielder is 25-26, then there is a drop-off after 30.

Davor, Slattery, and Paton are all at their peak with a few good years left, Spittal is at his peak, Miller is just getting started, and Halliday, Easton and Scougall have peaked. Do we need that many midfielders in their early 30s? No. At best, one or two would be worthwhile and experienced additions to the squad.

I'm all for signing local players, but let's not become a convalescent home for the older ones.

If true, where does that leave Sam Nicholson? Would there be room for both?

Nicholson hasn’t exactly impressed during his time with us, and I think his contract situation in the States is a little complex, so who knows where that leaves him. He signed a 2.5 year deal until winter 2024 with Colorado Rapids, although he was waived in January which allowed him to sign a short-term deal with us. I'd probably rather have Easton in the Spittal position than Nicholson.

  4. If Bair continues to improve and score more goals, his goal contribution alone could be worth more than £750K in cup runs and league placing next season.

The best-case scenario would be that he signs a one-year extension on improved personal terms until the end of season 2025/26, he performs like a Messi/Haaland hybrid next season, then is sold for 4x that figure next summer.

Or we sell him this summer for £750K, spend it on a few English lower-league jobbers, then hope that Moses becomes Messi(ah) next season.

  5. There are some fantastic goals to choose from, but it's got to be Bair's dink against Livi for me. Honourable mention for Spittal's thunder bastard strike, however.

The other takeaway from that video is how important Spittal has been for us. Putting Bair's revival and goals aside, Spittal has been our most important player by far this season, and it's not the first time I've posted that on this forum. We're going to miss him a lot.

Those are the questions members could raise at every Society meeting and/or directly with the Society Board.

As far as I'm aware, the vast majority of members did not.

You're not wrong, but I never have time to attend these events, otherwise I would raise such points in a public meeting.

Furthermore, from the meetings I’ve attended online, a lot of time seems to be taken up by certain individuals with axes to grind, rather than having a focus on positive change. It's tiresome.

I agree with an awful lot of what you say. I think the Society has maybe been complacent, to put it politely. However, I'm mindful that they have been operating during extremely challenging times of late and I'm not about to start criticising those who have volunteered their time and unquestionably give their all to the cause. That doesn't mean, however,  those with some fresh ideas could't provide some much needed impetuous and from what I'm reading signs are very encouraging.

Regarding the discussion I don't see much wrong with what has been posted in this thread and there are more than two sides to this story. I do agree however it looks like it is set to become a polarising issue and that's no good for anyone.

Yep, I agree. I daren't criticise anyone who gives their time to the cause either, but as a paying member, I am happy to question/criticise the Society as an entity.

I'm looking forward to whatever proposals come forward, from all parties, as I'm not one to make up my mind without a full view of all the detail.

The point I'm making is that the Society, at the very least, should have been given the chance to raise that investment whatever form it may take, without being undermined by those running the Club.

Maybe, but why should it have taken until now for the Society to up its game? Why wasn't the Society actively examining and proposing meaningful ways to increase the membership and raise further inward investment? Why has it taken until now for the Society to confirm that 3800 members don't correlate with 3800 active monthly direct debits? Has the Society been in cruise control for many years, resting on its laurels until it felt a threat from the Club? Both the Society and Club are within their rights to propose anything concerning ownership and inward investment, and perhaps it's just that the latter got its finger out first. I am a monthly paying Society member and have been for a long time, but there are so many other unanswered questions and points of speculation to be had from both sides, which has me questioning what's going on behind the scenes. This whole thread is becoming a tit-for-tat nonsense. Keep it up, everyone.

The chat I've heard is he's happy to stay and has a deal essentially agreed but not until he knows we're staying in the Premiership.

Let's hope he (finally) scores the goal required to secure our safety.

You're not seriously blaming this, or any other, Scottish government for the bigot brothers' inability to behave like rational human beings, are you?

Some people will blame the bad weather on the Scottish Government if it fits their agenda. Ignore them.

I don't think anyone will ever confuse you for that. Happy? Very rarely. Clapper? I doubt you clap much at Fir Park.

I can only assume you’ve followed me around Fir Park for the past 30+ years with a clicker in each hand noting my boos vs applause.

But, if you must know, I never boo my own team or players, and I generally always stay behind to applaud the team, regardless of the result.

It may come as a shock to you, but what people choose to critically express on a football forum after a match and how they carry themselves at the match are often not one and the same.

    Happy Monday to you!

8 points ahead with 15 to play for should be enough for us, though the experimentation will need to wait for now. This is where our ability to rescue draws from the jaws of defeat will come in handy.

We'll likely draw our way to safety and finish on 42 points.

Midfield already looks to be a potential problem for next term. Spittal is leaving and Miller might too. Paton is ok but injured. Slattery - injured but who knows. Davor - flatters to deceive and lightweight. Halliday  - not fit but not impressed either. Nicholson - who knows. Tierney  - not fancied by SK. Maguire - leaving?

The midfield is looking to be a big problem should Miller also leave. There are a lot of unknowns in that department. I think the entire squad needs an overhaul in general.

Any views on Sam Nichlson? The quiet man of Fir Park it would seem. He'd hardly played any football for a while before joing us and has only played a few minutes here and there since.  Fitness is not surprisingly a problem but he's looked fine in flashes.

Should he be offered a new deal? Would he be a replacement for Blair Spittal? Didn't quite understand his role yesterday as a wing back when he came on.

Nicholson was pretty crap yesterday, but he's a LM and Kettlewell put him at RWB, so I’ll cut him some slack. He’s not shown anything to suggest he’ll be an able replacement for Spittal, but I imagine Kettlewell will offer him a deal anyway.

I also thought Halliday was crap as well yesterday when he came on, although he’s confirmed as ours for next season. Davor and Miller are ahead of him in the pecking order, and Paton will likely be as well once back from injury.

Do you have an application form in for the Trolls doom and misery club alongside Yodo, MJC and Steelboy, why was yesterday pathetic, we never lost and had a great chance to win with the last kick of the ball? A draw was probably the fair result as Hibs played ok as well.

Since December we've been good, playing better picking up results, ending our Rangers hoodoo, to be even in the position of still be able to make the top 6 speaks volumes on how well SK has turned it round  from us being 2nd bottom.. so why not give the team some credit for a change, you might enjoy the experience.

A draw was a fair result as neither team turned up yesterday. Given what was potentially at stake for both teams, I find it odd but not surprising that it played out as a rather pathetic game.

I also find it difficult to take much enjoyment out of a season where we've only won 8 in 33 and had an appalling winless run. If others want to take enjoyment out of all those draws, then that's fine. Not for me, though.

I also don't think it’s fair to suggest those reasonable views are those of a troll. I'm just not a happy clapper.

  16. I thoroughly enjoy reading this thread every day, but I’ll be waiting for actual details to be released before offering any comment or my hot take. Others should keep it up, however, as it's exactly why this forum is often fun and nippy.

From what I've read, Gent's contract appears to run till 2025. Completely agree, he's been great for us. If there's any realistic way of getting him back next season, we're surely looking at that, rather than spending money on one or two unknown quantities to replace him. He seems happy here and must realise he's well liked, which are good starting points, although a chance at Blackburn or bigger vultures swooping will obviously kill us.

For whatever reason, I thought he was out of contract, but it makes sense that he was sent to us after extending his deal.
