Only saw the last twenty five minutes and the round up. United were sinking the clug later on but McDonald's elbow shot into Donaldson's face - he can argue he didn't mean it all day but I expect most refs would send you off for that. United's tackle that led to our first goal was an absolutely perfect tackle. Oh and Paton should have been off at the end.
However in the bit I saw live it was good to see us trying to play such nice stuff, we won nearly every second ball and other than a couple of corners United looked absolutely bereft of a plan.
By the way Chris Sutton is one tiresome bastard.

Don't think we had a failure today, most picking up steady sixes or sevens out of ten but McDonald was just about unplayable. Outstanding.

Think today was a situation where he could have put a couple on but he didn't need to. Chose to stick and would be churlish to complain as for the mostpart we were pretty comfortable.

Two 0-0 draws away to Aberdeen and Inverness and a 0-1 defeat to Celtic. Before that they beat Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock, got a draw at Dundee and beat St. Johnstone.
Actually I think Alan Archibald has done a tremendous job at Patrick as he's had to completely rebuild the team twice and kept them competitive.
After today a third of the goals Thistle have lost on the road have been at Fir Park. That is an unbelievable stat.

I've thoroughly enjoyed all the teammates programmes I've heard and this one was one of my favourites but I am slightly biased.

Took a while to get Moult, Johnson and Cadden involved in the game but when we did we looked miles the better team. Once they were in about the game though we looked the better team and I don't think anyone would begrudge us the three points. Pass by McDonald for the second was top drawer and as well as the brilliant run and finish from Johnson for the third MOult dragged the defenders to him to give him the room.
I wasn't sure whether the ball swerved or took a funny bounce in front of Ripley but it was as clear as day he had it covered and it suddenly spun to the side of him. Shit happens but at least it only cost us a goal in the Conceded column rather than any points.
We did get a bit deep for five minutes at 3-1 but someone took charge and forced us up the field a bit and the last ten minutes passed without much concern.

I agree. Things can change, however, I reckon Thistle’s win tonight + their 3 games in hand will see them safe for another year.
Not sure I agree with that - they now going to have a spell of Saturday Tuesday Saturday Tuesday Saturday Tuesday - lose a couple they might find that tough going and still be in it. I would say they are favourites to be top of the current bottom five but they are still very much in the battle.
We need to grind a win, any win, out on Saturday. We also need to be not booing players when they make an arse of things however frustrating it is as it really only causes them to tighten up and make more mistakes. We want to be all in it together, no matter if you like or dislike McGhee, McManus, stewards, Stephen Finnie or anyone in between the team need encouragement to do the right things and you never know it might just click.

At the game I thought Cadden and Ripley were at fault. Interesting last night that McCall and Stewart were blaming Laing rather than Cadden and that makes sense that he should have moved in on Wotherspoon and let Cadden charge the ball but I think it was a double jeopardy as Ripley was left unsighted by Laing which is why he was wrong footed.

I don't think Traveller was overly criticising Stevie Hammell here Andy. I took it that he was criticising Mark McGhee's tactics and team selection. I had assumed that if he was going to bring on one full back it would have been Josh Law, given that Saints were tearing us apart down our right hand side. However I think that he should have brought on 2 full backs and not one. For the record Stevie Hammell didn't play well when he came on but he was no better nor worse than the rest, although he didn't look clever at the second goal.
A couple of things - I don't think they 'tore us apart' down our right hand side. They looked more likely there than the other side but to be completely honest I think they were no better than us. Part of me wonders how much a part the pitch played because both us and them put on a much better spectacle at Fir Park.
On the subs, he couldn't make two changes at half time when he knows Fletcher hasn't paid for months and would never last ninety minutes - he does that and he gives himself nowhere to go if someone gets injured and again looking at how rutted the pitch is, you wouldn't have been surprised if someone got hurt.
As it happened I think Laing did better at right back than he did at centre half.

That's the thing, nobody knows his remit so nobody knows if he is stealing a wage because he is hopeless or if he is going for employee of the season anywhere in Scotland.
What is undoubted is that his heart is in Motherwell, he gives everything he has for this football club and nobody will hurt more than he does when we go through bad runs. Give me a Burrows any day of the week rather than someone who sees us as an employer but in the grand scheme of things doesn't give a shit if we win, lose or draw.
That doesn't mean he is beyond criticism or without fault. His views on summer football are, in my view, wrong but on the other hand a lot of people agree with him. Just hope we don't give him another play off ticketing headache!

Strange sort of game, I thought most of them did a little bit good, a little bit bad and a fair whack of bang average. Other than one atrocious corner, I'm inclined to go for Faddy - he opened up the defence twice with through balls and a couple of set plays. I think McGhee had to take him off because he wanted to change the shape further back and knowing that he had to leave two of Fletcher, Moult and Faddy for about 80 minutes anyway and with him playing on Tuesday night probably realised he would be pushed to get that from him.

Not a pitch that was conducive to good football however I wasn't really sure why we stopped even trying to play at times.
The game was pretty even I felt, they started better but we grew into it and although we didn't really look like scoring we were the better team when we went ahead. It is nice to see us beginning to look like a threat from set plays.
Sadly the equaliser was very slack defending. Cadden was succoured to the ball and left Wotherspoon all by himself - a known risk of playing very attacking players as wing backs, especially ones that are quite inexperienced. But for all that I think Ripley was perhaps more culpable.
I'm pretty sure that goal was the reason we sacrificed McFadden and reverted to a 4-4-2. Again we started the better in the second half but never really felt we were going to score and as they grew into it and we receded I didn't particularly feel under mass threat. However when the free kick was given, there was an air of inevitability that it was going to nestle in our net and so it proved.
I thought Scobbie was very lucky that the card he was shown for that raking tackle on Cadden was only yellow. But would be churlish to moan, we should still have marked him.
Next three games are big and we must try and get 6 points as an absolute minimum as the last three before the split are tough but perform like we did today and on a better pitch where we could pass more I think we won't be that far away. I agree with McManus in that they seem fit but I think we do subconsciously drop off late in games and invite pressure on and if we do that we will continue to lose late goals. Really need to snap out of it, the four points it has cost us since end of January could prove oh so costly.

The reason I ask is, was last night a true indication of us turning the corner or us simply managing to turn over a team who are just more shite than we are?
Either way, by winning 3-0 the belief should come back and be some sort of a springboard. Got to say given some of the turgid nonsense that made the club's highlights package I suspect this was far from a classic!

Just going back to the players failing under a third consecutive manager, anyone watching Vigurs pulling the strings in the Inverness midfield when more often than not he couldn't kick his own arse for us.

McGhee hasn't helped but Ainsworth has been all sugar or all shite ever since he's been here. Wouldn't be at all surprised if next time he plays he tears someone to shreds. It's just the way he is and if he wasn't he wouldn't be here.

I think you showed great restraint not adding in this little cherry from the bottom of the interview:
"We don't want (to be involved in another relegation battle) and I believe we won't be - I know for a fact we won't. As long as we keep working hard, we'll get rewards."

So yesterday Kennedy hoofed the ball into the stand, a ringing of boos could be heard. Next time he had the ball he played a short pass that put us into bother. Josh Law played a cross that was way to heavy to a chorus of boos. Next cross was miles short and they hit us on a counter. I know and accept the first clearance and cross were rank rotten and the booing was not meant directly at either of these two guys more the abject nature of our whole performance but it really doesn't help one iota.
I thought the formation we played yesterday should have worked. I felt the extra man in midfield made us more robust last week but without Ainsworth's pace it also made us insipid attacking and I thought yesterday's team had a great chance of giving us the best of both worlds. And actually I still believe that but it requires Gomis and Pearson not to be absolutely honking and off the pace and it requires Ainsworth to get involved in the game.
McGhee isn't the most likable and that means he needs to do better than someone who is but I still think he'll keep us up and I think he'll turn this. I'm hoping yesterday is like the Dundee game last February and for all everything wasn't brilliant after that we competed better in every single game and we don't have only one team to hit at this time and if we put the same sort of run together through the end of February, March and April and we'll be fine.
PS after the last two Januarys I can't imagine there is a team anywhere more pleased to see a winter break.

Go on, someone break it down for me. Whose fault is it this time..? I can't bear to listen to the guy...
Basically he said he thought it would work and be exciting but it didn't, went 4-4-2 and it was a bit better but still lethargic and it's his job to build the confidence back for Tuesday and they'll be in tomorrow. Didn't really blame anyone, himself or them.

The vast majority of the players involved today need to take a long hard look at themselves, as do a lot of the fuckwits in the East Stand berating the manager when the players misplaced a pass or failed to control the ball. The fans wanted two up front, and they got that in the 2nd half...We subsequently capitulated.
Disgraceful performance
To say we capitulated in the 2nd half is incredibly generous to the utter horse shit we served up in the 1st half. The only difference was that Kilrmarnock added finishing to the list as long of my arm of things they did better than us in the 2nd half.

That was utter mince. Easy to talk tactics but the midfield spent the first half passing right to Killie players or standing off them. Ainsworth and Johnson not involved enough and every bright spark came from a Cadden run, usually from corners we were defending. Second half he through on the other striker and they just waltzed through the midfield at will. First five minutes it looked like it may work but then we drifted back to the same old dross. To be honest we didn't even to deserve come second of two we were that awful. Play like that and we will be relegated. Deservedly.
