1985/86
drew 1-1 home and away then had to play, the next night after our replay, at Tannadice and won 2-0.

We haven't beaten Rangers in a cup match since March 1961 (the great 5-2 win at Ibrox) and have only 5 wins in 33 cup games against them. I can't see any reason why this should be any different from the usual disappointment but its gotta happen sometime. 50 years is long enough.

Doncaster should offer to resign if he has any decency.

So the club decide not to appeal because they are told the red card was for foul and abusive language. Fine if that was the case but tv evidence clearly shows the referee wasn't reacting at all until he was touched and then he brandished the card. After the game he says it was for foul language leaving us unable to provide evidence in our defence. Bastard has got us stitched up like a kipper.

... Unless the ref amends the match report to say jennings was abusive to him.
And he will...but watch it closely and its clearly for being touched.

If you can get sent off for touching a ref then the game is over. It's quite clear watching the replays that the referee does not react to any verbals but reacts to being touched and brandishes the red card. He couldn't wait to do it. Respect is a two way street and has to be earned. tonight, from our point of view, it wasn't.
Sadly the referee will make up some report to try and cover what is clearly an abysmal decision.

Anyone know what the attendance was at that match?
15,857
Capacity then was 31000 so the ground was 357 over half full!
And we were not struggling, as the clip says. At the time of the game we were comfortably fifth of ten teams.

Court jester, although with plain shorts it might have been almost okay.

Stewart McLaren?

The amount of (over)confidence in this thread worries me. I'll take a scrappy single goal victory but a draw wouldn't surprise me.

Don't forget we also had four Anglo Scottish games in 75/6 taking that total to 52. Stuart Rennie played in every game.
In 86/7, a 44 league game season, we played 52 games with four in each of the cups. Paul Smith and Fraser Wishart played in every game.
We also played 52 games in 72/3 (34 + 10 League Cup, 2 Scottish and 6 Texaco) and that seems to be our maximum for a season.

Do a Nancy to them. An early goal, or two, could kill this game off. Go at them full pelt for the first 15 or 20.

right a few random europa questions.
1) do we still hold the record europa win?
2) did jamie murphy score the first ever europa hattrick?
3) are any of the players suspended for the first leg of this seasons campaign?
1) in a single match, yes.
2) no, Dvali of Zestaponi got one in the first round second leg.
3) Ross Forbes was only player to get two yellows. Is it two or three for suspension?

I used to think that Motherwell 5-4 Kilmarnock in the 70's was the best game I've ever seen. That may just have been beaten. Okay, the defending from both teams was shit but if football was like that every week we'd gladly pay twenty pound plus for it.

It was indeed a Monday. I remember the Gers fans there to support us in their, at the time, fashionable red and white bar scarves. Great night and great to get one over Hibs chairman, Tom Hart if I recall, who insisted we play the game despite our flu problems.
Also, Joe Wark played the very next night at Hampden for the Scottish League team against the English equivalent.
