  1. No last man rule if a penalty is awarded, would have to have been reckless/violent etc

Players who commit a foul to deny a goalscoring opportunity will no longer automatically be sent off, football's rule-making body has confirmed.

The previous 'triple-punishment' rule required a red card - and therefore a suspension - as well as the award of a penalty under those circumstances.

However, players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring chance will now be cautioned instead.

But deliberate fouls will still incur a red card.

Those include holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball in order to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

  2. I think 90% of this situation is due to the ridiculous amounts of money that are spent in English football. Obviously it starts in the EPL. but that has a knock-on effect where 3rd and 4th tier clubs are desperate to get a share of the spoils and throw money at their team to try and buy success. My "wee" team at Forest Green Rovers is an example of that. When I used to watch them in the late 80s/early 90s they were a typical non-league local team. Now they have a new owner pumping in money to try and get them established in the senior leagues.

Most of that money comes from the ridiculous sums thrown at English football by Sky and BT while the Scottish game gets offered peanuts. My "wee" team AFC Fylde also have a multi millionaire throwing cash at them to try and achieve league status. And don't get me started on agents who take millions from the game and give nothing back.

  3.

Why do you think he only played 4 games?

Because Hugh Sproat was our first team goalie and Sammeroff only played because he was out injured for four weeks. I don't think the fans would have taken too kindly to their favourite not getting straight back into the team. And no, I'm not saying he was anything special as a keeper but he certainly never let us down in the games he played and to rate him as so poor based on only four games seems harsh, especially given other contenders.

  4. Samson would struggle to make my top 5 worst keepers I have seen at Fir Park. And there is such a gap between the top two and the rest of the field, he barely even registers.

    1) John Gardiner

    2) Howard Samaroff

    Several lightyears

    3) The pack

It amazes me when Howard Sammeroff gets mentioned as one of our worst keepers ever. He only played four first team games, kept three clean sheets and conceded just one goal. Tell you what, I'd take that level of shite any day of the week.

  5. Two big games coming up for AFC Fylde, my very local team just fifteen minutes walk from the house (or more if I call in at the four pubs en route).

First up on Saturday is a huge game against Kidderminster Harriers which could kill off Kiddy's title hopes and cement Fylde's. A chance for me to see if Zaine Francis-Angol has turned into a footballer yet!

Then on Tuesday another biggie when the Messiah/naughty boy Jim Gannon brings Stockport to Mill Farm.

One game down and I can confirm he's not a footballer yet. As a Fylde fan, 80 minutes of the worst football ever. 2-0 down at half time, bit of pressure but no goals, game drifting away. One goal back from nowhere but Kiddy clinically running down the clock. 89 minutes, red card for Kiddy. 94 minutes big big fight, one from each team sent off, and looked like more fighting in the tunnel. 97 minutes, a late equaliser. Proper exciting football. Remember that?

  7. 2 games against the Old Firm stick out - early 70's, both had 30K attendances

Rangers 2-2 (Colin Stein scored late equaliser - lost replay 4-2)

    Celtic 3-2 (0-2 comeback Wullie P game)

Like Daver said games at that time against the "evil twins" weren't a pleasant experience.

    Rangers 28,500

    Celtic 25,000

The St Mirren cup game game is listed as 26,709 but some reported it as around 33,000 and I would be tempted to agree having been at all three games. That's the one it was almost impossible to even move at.

  8. I remember years ago, Stevie Kirk was investigated by the Police for a similar incident against Hearts when he booted the ball into the crowd with some force but that was entirely accidental and rightly, no further action was taken.

Kirk was a Falkirk player by then and further action was indeed taken. This from the Guardian's Knowledge column...Falkirk striker Steve Kirk kicked the ball into a group of Hearts supporters during an SPL game at Tynecastle and, in doing so, struck a 12-year-old girl on the head. Kirk was charged with recklessly kicking the ball without regard for spectators' safety and fined £250, despite his protestations that he had only put the ball out of play to allow an injured team-mate to receive medical treatment.

  9. Another fairly vague and speculative story via HITC but it seems MFC are "one of a number of clubs" interested in this chap, James Hardy. A 20 year old attacking midfielder no less. Plays as a #10/winger apparently.

Plays for my hometown club. Just moved into a £18m stadium complex with a wealthy backer so not desperate for money. Good little player but maybe a little lightweight for the SPFL.

  10. Back on topic guys. Just watched the TV highlights. MacDonald's goal that was chalked off was a very close call. Although I'm biased I tend to say he was in line.

Look at the linesman, he almost stops at the first suggested offside which puts him out of position for McDonald's goal. From his out of line position McDonald would almost certainly appear offside.
