  1. Managed Airdrie with distinction too. Partick Thistle less so.

    On This Day

Aye. Paul McStay was it who took the huff after it which sparked wee Tam's reposte. And not for the last time Celtic would have their party spoiled by the 'Well!
  3. I actually thought it summed him up entirely that after booking Hammell he proceeded to allow Nicky Law to have a running "debate" with him for a good 15-20 seconds before he pulled him up for a talking to, and still didn't book him. As you say you don't know what's been said but it seemed laughable to book Hammell for dissent and then allow Law to chat back for as long as he did and go unpunished. Consistently inconsistent!
  4. First post has been edited since originally posted which makes the subsequent replies look a touch odd. In summary it was a bit of a rallying call.
  5. That was a real let down. I really thought we'd be up for it but it was a very flat display. Sixty odd minutes was it to have our first (and only?) effort on goal pretty much says it all. Lots of decent possession from both teams for the first half an hour but Killie began to get on top in the last fifteen of the first half and probably should have been ahead even by the break. We didn't heed the warning however and we were quickly behind early in the second. It looked a long way back even at 1-0 but when they scored the second it was game over. Too far away to argue whether it was handball or otherwise. No grumbles with McCall mixing it up with the triple substitution in an effort to spark some life into things and if McHugh had been a wee bit more alert when that ball fizzed across the box we might have been able to muster some kind of comeback but it wasn't to be. The other scores only make the afternoon even more of a disappointment. However. We are still in pole position for third. We still have our fate very much in our own hands and we most certainly know we can play miles better than that today. Response next week please!

Your thoughts and votes please folks...
  7. And here we have the primary concern of the media tucked nicely away mid-article. It doesn't really matter that its a battle for a Champions League/Europa League/Top Six place does it? It's only attracted some relevance because it sets the context for tomorrow's Old Firm game.
  8. Already one or two mentioned earlier in the thread I think.
  9. Without wanting to enter into the argument but a topical tweet from Richard Gordon earlier today mentioned that.... You can now ofcourse argue what that exactly proves!
  10. I think it might just have been before I moved down here but Jon Connolly, who got one, possibly two appearances in goals when Billy Davies was in charge stayed in Bargeddie. His mate stayed a few doors along from the good lady's old dear so he was in the vicinity quite a bit. As for Chapelhall before that, I can't remember any 'Well living in the village although in the pre-internet days when the Clydesdale Bank League Review Book was a volume to be cherished and every detail poured over I remember being fascinated that Francis Mulvaney who was on MFC's books briefly in the 1980's was listed as being born in Chapelhall. I also used to sell tatties and eggs to Cammy Duncan's gran. All earth shattering stuff I'm sure you'll agree!
  11. Folks, A wee update on how things are proceeding.... The contributions have been rolling in steadily and I'm chuffed to say that thus far we've collected just under half of the £1000 we need for the Claret Well Society membership package. There have been a few posters who have come forward with donations who didn't publically pledge and I know that a few have chipped in having already signed up for your own memberships so our thanks for that! We still have a good bit of flexibility with the payments but when we do the official form filling bit it looks like we'll be handing over a good chunk of it there and then. We've been keeping in regular contact with Alison Wallace at Fir Park and they are delighted with how things are proceeding with our contribution, and Alison is pretty sure she can commandeer a player to do our draw for the benefits that come with the Claret package. So keep the contributions coming in please folks, ask away if you've questions you want me to ask and again thanks once again for your support!
  12. I've seen the size of their support mentioned on a couple of mediums. Not for a minute disputing that we wouldn't get anywhere near the same figure if the fixture had been reversed - but then we don't come from a city of about 200,000 souls with no other top flight side in about 70 miles of us. Nor do we seek to have you believe we're a dormant superpower either for that matter. But I must admit I was actually wee bit underwhelmed with the size of their support given some of the pre-match chat about having sold more tickets than Motherwell etc. Difficult times we live in these days but I kind of compare that turn out with some of the crowds they've brought to Fir Park in the past, the size of club they consider themselves to be and think...well it was decent of course, but not quite of a level that prompted Alan Preston of Radio Scotland to tweet about how it reminds you how massive a club they are. Again not to say those that travelled didn't give them fine backing or put on an impressive card display.
  13. What's the German for useless lanky streak of pish? Just so I know to pick it out from the 7 pages worth of comments underneath
  14. A desperately disappointing and damaging afternoon, only partially redeemed by the last 15 minutes or so for me. And yet that we that came as close to snatching a replay as we did leaves me feeling a curious of mix of pride and frustration. A pretty dismal first half from start to finish. A corner that never was, poor defending, blowing the penalty opportunity, Hutchy going off injured on the back of Craigan pulling out before the game. If ever there was a day you felt it was never going to happen this was it. And when Lasley walked I foolishly commented that we'd be as well writing the day off and re-grouping for next week. And yet somehow we almost managed to get a replay out of it. I can only hope that the dejection the players were visibly showing at the end can be channeled positively going into next weekend's game against them. The last fifteen/twenty minutes should give the team all the encouragement they need to know that when they are of the right frame of mind and hit the necessary levels of intensity Aberdeen can be beaten. Having said at this moment in time I'm slightly fearful that our team will be much the weaker whilst they have two or three ready to return. But disappointing as it is, the season still offers some consolation for us. This wasn't a win or the season is dead scenario, we're still very well placed for one of the most memorable campaigns in years. Back to winning ways next week to help see that begin to come to fruition would be just the remedy for today's angst.
  15. Your thoughts and votes please....
  16. That would actually be quite a cool reposte to their card display. A banner simply reading "Saving our card display for the Final" when they do theirs.
  17. Anyone considered that he's purposely brought up the abuse stuff in the hope that it comes back into the mindset of some of the Motherwell support who will get caught up trying to abuse him rather than giving positive support for our team? He'll know only too 'Well fans love a hate figure to unleash their fury upon and I think he's trying to play on it. Fortunately I think he seems to be blissfully unaware of the level of support the team have been getting from the fans in recent times and besides, in the current climate abusing Craig Brown comes way way down the list of priorities. With a Champions League place to secure and a Cup to win, who really gives a fuck about Craig Brown?
  18. Ahh right. Our fund will operate along similar lines. Everything that's collected a week-ten days before the end of March will go to MFC as our first installment with the rest to be paid thereafter. So if you or anyone wanted to contribute to the fund but would prefer to wait until after March then that would be no hassle at all.
  19. Do you mean to our fund or for an individual membership David? For an individual membership you have 4 installments available to pay up your membership. One has to be before March which can be a small amount if that's easier for the individual. The remainder I think you have up to 9 months to complete the payment. You would specify those 3 other payment dates when filling in your forms.
  20. I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem but best to give Alison at Fir Park a call or email. Her contact details are on a couple of the Well Society threads on here.
  21. I would find it difficult to put a sum on it now. The context has changed of where we were in the January and where we could potentially be come summer transfer window. We could blast through the Well Society £250k target, have a Murphy inspired 2nd place finish, win the Cup thanks to a winning goal from him after a televised replay against Aberdeen and two televised wins in front of near capacity crowds at Hampden. By contrast the Well Society model might fail, we implode and miss out on the tasty Champions League lucre and get papped out the cup on Sunday with him getting carried off on a stretcher and MJC is posting told you so on every single thread. There's also the small matter of what any suitors might want to actually pay. All in all better placed to call this one once the summer comes.
  22. I've created a spreadsheet where I've recorded usernames what people have pledged, what the actual contribution was and contact details should MFC fail to get the £250k and I need to return folks contributions. Since the pledges are already on the thread, I'll be updating regularly the amount received and for re-assurance I'm contacting people to confirm receipt of their donation I don't see the need to replicate it on the opening post.
  23. First few contributions have started to come in. Thanks for that and keep them coming. Remember when sending via paypal to mark your contribution as a gift and ensure your full donation goes to the fund. Cheers again!
  24. I've been in correspondence with people at MFC regarding our Steelmen Online membership and while they couldn't have been more helpful in trying to assist us they are still desperately keen to get as many individuals as possible to sign up. The times and locations are already at the top of the thread but I gather they are going to open the bar and will have tea, coffee and sandwiches laid on also. They are going to be stressing again that not all the money for a membership has to be paid by the end of March, that a small first installment would be welcome with the rest to follow in the later installments if that's going to help people sign up. If anyone can't make it tomorrow but wants to discuss anything relating to the Well Society Alison Wallace is the person to get in touch with at that link or on 01698 338006.
