  1. Watching the whole game doesn't count then, you had to be there?

If you feel you've seen enough to be able to cast a vote from watching the game online or on the telly then batter in.

  2. Thoughts and votes please....

...though ofcourse there's really only going to be a select few who can vote on this with any great authority so can I'll kindly ask for your discretion when considering voting on this one.

EDIT: Voting will open when the first of the travelling Dossers arrive home!

  3. Did the legend that is John Hendry not actually score 1 or 2 in this game? And didn't this one send the Hibees down or get a manager sacked or something?

It was Jim Duffy, I think it was, who was in charge at the time and that basically sealed his fate. I think we got another week out of McLeish then he was off the Hibees.

  5. Noticed that all of our August games are on TV. The away one at Kilmarnock is going to be on BBC Alba that night. Also on BBC Alba will be our visit to Easter Road on 13th November.

Was the Alba gig not changed this season to show games as live at something like 5:15pm or did I dream that?

  6. Are season ticket seats reserved for a week again or is it a total free for all this time?

Seems not. Ordered by phone this morning for collection at the weekend, and whilst stand and seat numbers were taken was told those seats would only be allocated to me "if still available".

  7. Can't even see the game advertised on that link!

Yeah, me neither. Even looking at their site listings they seem to be plugging Molde-Stuttgart and whilst my Norwegian is somewhat lacking it looks like some is asking a question about our game further down the page.

  8. I think its part of the beauty of European football at our level is that until you actually play your opposition is its very difficult know what you are up against. And any bravado present from the opposition fans on message boards only clouds it even more.

Like one of our Norwegian guests posted earlier I don't have a clue how it'll go. I hope that as Finlay points out that the experience of both our management and team that over the piece we'll be good enough to go through but I can't say with any certainty that we will.

  9. Last couple of pages tidied up a bit.

Quit the name calling and play nice eh :P

Mind you, fucknut? Never been called that before. Bastard aye? Fat bastard? Aye that too. Fat specky bastard even but fucknut?

Anyways in all seriousness give the name calling a bye please guys.

  10. Welcome to the forum Aalesund fans. Opposition fans are welcome on here, particularly our European opponents.

Good relationships have been established with the fans all the teams we've played in Europe in the last couple of years who have visited our forum - with the exception of some mad Albanian individual who was promptly shut up when we beat his team 8-1 :P I'm sure it will be no different with you guys.

Thanks for the advice on travel and the information about your team and players.

Fingers crossed many 'Well fans will be able to make use of it if we beat Breidablik on Thursday night.

More - once we know for sure we're in the next round!

  11. I've managed to get my laptop connected to my tv (using a hdmi connector) so I'll be watching it on a 42" screen with a couple of mates - only problem so far is that I've only got sound through the laptop (can hear it ok though) but hope to get a lead to sort that out tomorrow

If it helps, I have done the same recently with my laptop to the tv via an VGA lead.

For the sound I've got a 3.5m headphone jack to 2 x audio/phono leads (basically a headphone jack at one end and the red and white audio cables at the other).

I've got that going through the surround sound system and it works a treat, but I believe if you are looking to use that lead to go direct to the tv there's a further adapator needed that the red and white audio cables go into before it goes into your tv.

  12. I shall keep you up to date about their progress as my two footballing loves are Annan Athletic and Motherwell. I was told about the possibility of loans coming from Motherwell by Annan's captain Andy Aitken the morning after the Euro game. (He knew I followed the Well but asked me to remain tight lipped about them as I respectfully did) I believe it was going to be Smith and Halsman but that changed after Smith's appearance on Thursday night.

Its a sensible move. Its not a million miles away from Fir Park, with no reserve team to speak of these days it makes sense to get them some time playing competitive stuff. Its not always a guarantee that a loan spell will work out - remember Darren Smith at Stenny and Mark Archdeacon at the Wee Rovers - as well as the successful Forbes and Page loan deals but I think there's more chance of them working to our benefit than not.

Also got fond memories of Annan stopping off there twice with Liz Mullen's bus on pre-season trips to Carlisle. The hospitality in particular on our first trip was something to behold with free grub, t-shirts being dished out to weans and even allowing some drunken Dossers on to their park for a kick-about was just first class.

Hope the boys do well for themselves and for Annan.

  13. Nobody is pillorying you, don't be melodramatic. I would pillory you for supporting those fascist bastards Lazio, but not for disagreeing on a topic such as this. :P

It isn't actually much a disagreement except in terms of how this particular tie should be described. It's hardly Darwin v Creationism; in fact the dividing lines are blurred. I just object to to every harmless, anodyne remark immediately being seized upon as 'arrogant' and 'condescending'. They are looking too hard to take offence; over-analysing every comma and pause. I like to piss them off, sometimes in jest, sometimes seriously, mixing it up so they aren't sure. ^_^

And you say pilloried......what is waiting to be offended and strike back against the big, bad arrogant Sassenach? I get my share, it's character building :D

Trafficlight if you genuinely feel, that everyone's out to get you, then perhaps its time to consider pastures new?

When you do get involved in debates such as these - and there have been a few - you waste little time in telling everyone who'll listen what your beliefs, motivations and rights are, and how you'll defend them to the hilt - particularly when the Man Utd card gets played.

That's an admirable trait but there's a time and place to demonstrate it. Is the message board of a team you have a passing interest in really that place?

You've never given the impression of being able to step into the mindset of the average Motherwell fan or comprehend that our outlooks, motivations and viewpoints are quite markedly different from that of the average Man Utd fan.

You made great play about the use of language in the thread. Its a factor but its not so much the language its outlook behind it. You are so used to looking at things from an Man Utd perspective that even if you mean well when you are posting about MFC occasionally it doesn't translate particularly well. It's perhaps worth thinking about if you continue to post on matters about Motherwell.

If in the cold light of day, looking back at what you've posted in this thread you still insist that there's nothing in there that a Motherwell fan would find condescending then really you've got little chance of ever aligning yourself with the majority of 'Well fans.

Anyways this thread is gone. The Club Chat section has largely managed to avoid the kind of threads that have deteriorated in Other Football and Compost Corner and if I can help it there won't be a repeat.

  14. Nothing smug or condescending about it. So what if only a handful of Icelandics made the trip? They deserve full credit for spending that kind of money, and I will wager only few extra Motherwell fans will travel the other way.The expectancy that everyone who supports a small Icelandic club should be grateful to play a Europa League qualifier and spend hundreds to come to Scotland, is smug and condescending.

I remember Decorator's thread about the TEN ( count them ) Motherwell fans who travelled for a European tie last season. Good on them for spending that kind of them, but it's hardly surprising so few did for a tie like that. I wouldn't because I can't afford to, and similarly I have turned down tickets for far bigger ties because I have wanted to save the cash in case United made the next round.

You seem to be missing the point. You were the one who took it upon himself to look down your nose at the Europa League and the tie by deciding it was by no means a glamorous one.

You would know how the Breidablik fans felt about this tie how?

We know our place in the grand scheme of things. We're pishy wee teams having an absolute fucking ball just being in Europe. We could be knocked out and never qualify again for the next 20 years. We can't get blase about qualification and EVERY tie has a glamour and excitement about it because we know it could be our last for decades.

Ofcourse however many fans deserve full credit be they Motherwell, Breidablik or whatever one of us get through to join the Aalesund fans who like Breidablik will also be experiencing their first ever Euro tie.

They don't need some condescending Man Utd fan looking down his nose and deciding what competition or opponent constitutes a "glamour" tie.

  15. Who asked you, dickhead? You can turn any remark into anything you like, even if you don't understand it. Are you flying in from the states for a Europa League qualifier? No, other priorities, like the Icelandics in the first leg and those Motherwell fans who aren't travelling for the second leg? Be sure to post your pics of your visit to Iceland.

Oh gie it a bye. You posted a smug remark. Tried to remedy it and made yourself look even more smug and condescending in the process.

  16. Well that's four or five years in the SPL, including a 3rd place and 3 successive European campaigns. How many caps has he got?

How many seasons in the SPL or Euro campaigns do you think it'll take then?

  17. If Motherwell and the SPL can deliver all these things then why have Quinn, Clarkson, McCormack and Porter gone to the Championship? Smith, McMillan, Hughes and McCulloch dropped even further down the English divisions.

I'm all for accentuating the positives when it comes to MFC but you have got to have a bit of realism too. If according to the programme on Thursday you have SPL teams with five times our budget. How many times more will be so with a Championship team?

If you honestly believe that Motherwell are in a better position than the likes of Middlesborough, Cardiff or Hull with the resources they have then I think you are a bit deluded.
