  1. That picture on the fishel looks like there's a fair bit of space behind that goal.

What about some compromise and they stick up a temporary stand behind the goals for us. They get their home ground, they get the extra revenue, we get to see the game?

  2. I'm not sure where this is coming from DC'd - theres been nothing announced officially as far as I can see for the away leg - thought it was gonna be sorted out this Thursday.

Most folk had expected it to be switched so there would be plenty tickets.

Like I say might have missed something

    Agreed Mr Diggle.

The 'fishel as far as I can see hasn't confirmed any arrangements for the away leg yet. We're in danger of arguments breaking out here about most deserving cases taking the edge of folk's excitement and causing ill feeling when there probably won't even be any need.

No better for us just to wait and see what we get before we jump the gun?

  3. Do the local sports shops in Lanarkshire sell the strips of the local teams, not just Old Firm ? And do they sell English club strips ?

You'll do well to find the strip or official merchandise of any Lanarkshire club outwith their own shops, though to be fair its a situation that probably suits both sport shops and the clubs.

What the clubs lose in exposure in the JJB's of the world they gain in that all revenues from strip sales go to the clubs (directly or via partnerships such as MFC and Provan Sports).

Your average town centre sport shop up here won't be much different from down south I suspect filled with strips from top end Premiership, European and International sides in addition to the mandatory rows of Old Firm stuff.

The sad fact is that you are just as likely to see someone walk down the street in Motherwell in an AC Milan tracky as as you are a Motherwell.

  4. Sandy Clark was quoted in the Express yesterday as saying that he and Jimmy Nichol are prepared to split with Jimmy Calderwood and work together as a pair if a job came up in the SPL. He said it was unlikely that Calderwood would be interested in managing again in the SPL.

Sandy Clark. Dirty Airdrie/Rangers/Jambo/Dunfermline/Accies/Thistle/St Johnstone arse.

Rarely has a player or manager managed to fit so many irritating teams into one career.

  5. I have to be honest there's part of me that shares Special's unease at playing someone who might be in the middle of their season.

I would like to think that we'll have enough to see us into the 2nd round regardless of who we get once you start getting the Scandanavians or even the teams from Eire (who have proved troublesome in the past to Scottish sides) who have an edge on fitness then it could get a bit tricky.

But lets take care of the first things first and see who we get tomorrow.

  6. While the discussion is on about Calderwood I might have thought that after his statement about the O'Donnell silence that someone in the football would have made him aware of the upset he caused.

Surely he wouldn't be so niave to think he could say what he said and stroll into Fir Park and be welcomed warmly as if nothing had ever happened would he?

Or is it the case that he's just using the Motherwell job to remind the football world that he still exists? That he has no inclination whatsoever to manage Motherwell but has put in an application/got an agent to release some info/called in a favour from a hack to put his name in the papers?

I do actually wonder how many of these seemingly bizarre reports like "John Robertson declares interest in Motherwell job" that you get when a job comes up are actually genuine declarations of interest.

  7. The new top also has a darker amber and contrary to what has been said the Bukta sizes ARE bigger. A large last year for me was the ideal size, this year not so much. The sleeves are a lot slimmer meaning a lot less room under the armpits and there is a difference (admittedly not massive) in the length of the shirt.

Back to the shop for me to get an XL. Which is a bummer as I saw a guy buy the last one today.

Had a quick try on when mine arrived yesterday and thought it to be at worst, the same size as last season's Bukta top, perhaps even slightly bigger.

  8. I've kept out of a lot of the detailed debate Melvin, although it has been fascinating to track. Several reasons for that I guess. Firstly almost all of the names mentioned don't excite me, petrify me or are simply unrealistic (a few other folk have said this to me) and secondly there's a fair chance, like you've said, that the eventual successful candidate will be someone unexpected; a dark horse if you will.

    I'm along similar lines.

Was on holiday when McGhee departed. Only caught snippets on Sky Sports News and trying to catch up with the boards now - though I don't know if I've the stomach to wade through all 49 pages of speculated or proposed gaffers.

I have to say its more trepidation than excitement that I'm filled with at the moment. I've been pretty underwhelmed with a lot of the names mentioned. Don't get me wrong I know the likliehood is that we'll end up one of the names mentioned but the likes of John Robertson, Lawrie Sanchez and Steve Staunton do absolutely nothing for me despite some of their

Even the two with 'Well connections in Nijholt and McAllister don't fill me with any great enthusiasm either. I've never quite understood the rush to push Nijholt's name forward every time the job has come up and if McAllister had doubts about the club's ability to match his ambitions two years ago I really don't see what the difference is now.

Not bored of the process, just a bit concerned at the moment.

  9. The papers are full of Motherwell's transfer negotiations..... criticism.

The papers have no mention of Motherwell's transfer negotiations..... criticism.:rolleyes:

There is a list of targets being worked on, I'd rather read news of who these targets were once they have signed for us.

Indeed! It would perhaps be different if we were hours away from the deadline for registering new players for the Europa League or in the rest of the league were making signings by the bucketful and we weren't. But we're not.

  10. I'm not sure what I have that would be of any use but as an idea for part of a "heritage" trail I remember watching a Scotland youth game from the Govan Stand at Ibrox and was impressed with the large black and white canvas prints they had of important players and matches in the concourses.

Perhaps something the club might want to do on the walls of the East, Cooper and O'Donnell stands.

  11. Do you think the people who thought Bob Malcolm was mince and a lazy bastard sat on their arses when he scored for us? Free kicks against Hibs and ICT and a winner against St Mirren. I don't think so, so to those people who did celebrate his goals are ???

    Make up your own minds.

Well, in my mind, that's a pretty daft argument.

Motherwell score you celebrate. Its instinctive. Whether its a 35 yarder, a 2 yard trundler, or an own goal that's deflected off the defenders arse and hit the post on the way in - you celebrate.

You don't stand there for a few seconds working out how much you rate the player before deciding if you are going to celebrate do you?

  12. Our Nancy game shirt was without sponsor so if we progress in the Europa league we may get that again. I know I have bought the Xara black and white away strip without sponsor :D

I think that one was originally a training top that was brought into emergency use when we drew East Fife in the league cup when it was deemed that both the home and away strips were too similar to theirs.

The one that seemed to be modelled on the England home strip of the day with a black vertical stripe. I'm sure they continued to be sold in the shop as a training top without any sponsor.

  13. Pretty happy with that.

My favourite modern day kit was the "Untouchables" kit and this comes really close to replicating that.

If I'd to offer some constructive criticisms I'd move the badge down a touch closer to the hoop and with the white piping on the colour and sleeves it might have been an idea to do the same with the hoop.

Overall though really happy with that. Just hope JAXX renew the sponsorship so we get two years out of it!!

  14. I wouldn't worry too much about it, testimonials can take a right good while to organise.

For example to ensure the player gets the best possible return the club itself can take virtually no part in the setting up of a testimonial otherwise it has tax implications, so there will be a committee dealing with things in the background.

Then there's the opposition to consider. If you go for a big team from England you are likely going to incur a wedge in expenses to tempt them to travel up. You will be competing with teams who also quite fancy having a game against an Everton, Aston Villa or a Newcastle.

You'll also have to weigh up when the best date for a game is. Remember your big English teams might not want to commit because a tour of Asia is far more lucrative than a gesture of goodwill run in Lanarkshire. Some of them will have European qualifiers in pre-season too.

Do you go for a pre-season date knowing that many folk could be on holiday and they can be notoriously poorly attended? Do you go for an end of season date and risk the season being shite and folk being hacked off and not fussed about going?

Its as far a way from a case of picking up the phone to a team and saying "You fancy......." as you could possibly imagine.

And that's just a couple of examples of sorting a game. What if there's the obligatory golf day, dinner and race night to organise as well!!

  15. Just flicking through the local rag from over here and its got some detail about Airdrie season tickets. Thought I'd post them to allow some comparison.

A parent and child up to 10 years old for them - bearing in mind this is for Second Division fitba and at their early bird discount comes in at £265. A parent and child of 11-16 is £285.

An adult is £225 at their early bird price which makes our East Stand early bird price at £243 look excellent value.

  16. There are going to lots of candidates so I'll limit my ramblings to one of each to allow others to throw in their own.

Best - Probably the display in Dortmund in the UEFA Cup in 1994. A sensational performance that with a wee bit more luck in front of goal could have been arguably the greatest match in our history.

Worst - Oh its pick one from about 100 when you've watched Motherwell for 30 years. A personal horror show for me was the 3-0 loss to Airdrie in 1992. We'd failed to build on the Cup win, the team had nosedived, negativity poured from the support, square goes were being offered across the East Stand as folk struggled to adjust to the loss of the shed and being stuck next to folk they didn't want to. This epitomised it for me. Another Alex McDonald team had suckered us into a kicking match and capitalised as we pathetically tried to match them physically. When it got to 3-0 I lost it and stormed out - as my mates in the Airdrie end, knowing where I sat, gleefully watched on.

  17. I don't think its been one of the easier years to select a candidate. I've felt several players had some really excellent spells but few have managed to keep their form going over the season for one reason or another.

Lasley started brilliantly then fell away when Klimpl arrived. When he moved to midfield he was initially a revelation but towards the end of the season he fell away a bit too. You had Porter on one of those "goalden" streaks (tabloid style) before he left which could have made him a candidate if he had kicked around.

Moving up the pecking order, Buzz probably had one of his most consistent seasons between the sticks and you had Craigan who when he was fit and in the side was generally excellent and brought solidity and organisation when most needed, but then he missed some large chunks.

All in all though I've gone for Clarkson. Lots of endeavour and fight as ever but a good return of goals in a season where he has had to learn to play a different position, when he's been used on the right hand side quite a bit.

  18. Will he feature in europe ????

I'm not wanting to start another fitzi debate here, i do like his effort, if more players in the team tried like him we might have not needed the fairplay wild card.

But I get the feeling if mcghee goes, Fitzi will have no chance.

While not really wanting to get into another Fizzy debate either, he's been given contracts by 3 different managers in his time at Fir Park, which mabye suggests he must have something which the managers find to their liking otherwise he would likely have been bumped by now.

I don't know that any incoming manager wouldn't at least see what he had to offer them.

  19. I think a poll is irrelevant. We will end up at a ground based on who is willing to accommodate us, cost and who has a UEFA certificate.

Ofcourse we'll end up at a place of the club's choosing.

But trying to pick a team for a game every Saturday is irrelevant, we have no say in that either, but it doesn't stop folk with an interest offering their preference and opinion.

    No different here really.

  20. I think it was a case of not being invited rather than not entering a team.

There was a line put out by the organisers that they had to look at giving other teams an opportunity but whether that's the real reason remains open to debate.

  21. Are you going to go to FP and put a blockade in place? Being realistic if Aberdeen or Celtic ask the question we all know the answer is yes. I hope he stays but there are too many teams that he has an interest in and have more resources than us knocking on the door. Boyle has to be assuming he has an appointment to make so we are not joining this manager merry go round late and with no plans in place.

Ofcourse not - and that wasn't my point. I've already said way earlier in the thread, even before Celtic entered the equation, that Aberdeen would offer a greater platform for a manager of his ambition.

I also agree that its entirely prudent of the Motherwell board to be in a position to react swiftly to any change.

My point was to express my surprise at how easy the prospect of McGhee walking away was sitting with some fellow 'Well fans. Calderwood had barely left the building and some seem to be almost willing McGhee away.

  22. Forget your Ian McCall's, Bobby Williamson's, Billy Stark's, I'm still hoping it'll be McGhee in charge of our club next season.

I can't believe how easily some are willing to just let him walk out the door, indeed give him a helping hand out of the door.
