  1. Officer Diggle, you mean? He comes out with some spectacular bullshit,

I was referring to the usual culprit concerning all things Humphreyesque.

Steve, I distance myself from this comment above, feel free to unleash both barrels. :vinsent:

  2. Kevin McDonald on a free......??? I wid!!

    http://en.wikipedia....aller_born_1988)

His career appears to be doing a "Gow", while many a player have been written off and came to FP and reignited things, I'd only go for him for cover.

With respect to the SFA thing, its certainly encouraging, good to see there is the first hint of some initiatives to generally improve the game. I suppose the only issue I can see is that hole between full U-21 internationals and everyone else, then another up to 24-25ish when the regular matches is really important.

  3. Don't agree. Carolos Puyol, Fabio Cannavaro, Ricardo Carvalho (all smaller than 6ft) are three of the best defenders to grace the game in the last 10 years. Winning trophies left, right and centre, including World Cups, European Championships, Champions League, Premiership, Serie A, and La Liga.

If you've got a good defensive brain then it doesn't matter if you're tall and built like a brick shit house or you're small/average height.

Would rather have a defender with a brain rather than a Gary Kenneth!

Unfortunately all the defenders you mentioned have skill, composure and speed in addition to consistency and intelligence if not size.

The higher up the football tree you go, the more funds you have available to buy the complete player. Where we are, we have to settle for only a few of those attributes with the hope they may develop one or more over time. If so, we get a return, if not we sell them to Sheffield Wednesday .....

In this league size and physicality does matter, it will do for quite a few years yet, much as we'd all want skill and technical ability to be more prominent. There are plenty of huge guys, hence why that particular attribute carries a small premium, a defensive brain and awareness is less common and consequently you have to pay handsomely for it ..... and we are Motherwell after all.

I don't think you could say that Craigan is short of intelligence however, his lack of pace and physicality left us exposed too often last season. He wasn't the only culprit to be fair.

I just feel in the recent past we've been bossed around too much in defence and despite an understandable naivety on a few occasions, Hutchinson looks like he's giving us what we need in the middle. This season I suspect he will really impress. Hence why I suggested another large guy to go alongside him.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have Wee Dougie (even now) in defence than Kenneth.

  4. Just a thought. What kind of centre half do we reckon is what we're needing? Older head, commanding in the air, speedy etc?

Massive, for me the best central defenders are always huge and use their physical attributes. Skillful, composed and fast would be a benefit but if we can find a guy with all 4 then he's probably out our price range.

  5. The only other thing that possibly hasn't been mentioned... I'm quite particular about how the sleeves hang, not too sure about these ones. I like ones that hug your arm but not too tightly. Particularly with these ones being ringers that should hug your arm a bit, they might be a bit baggy, so will look daft.

    Is that right Gok?

  6. Jon mentioned in his video interview today that you were definitely in for him, as were some other SPL clubs. It seems he went with the advice of our manager and chairman over those trying to persuade him it was in his interests to move up to Scotland.

All the best Jon ..... NEXT!

  7. If any of our team are on the way out, I hope its down south, nothing sticks in the throat as much as a good player leaving and returning to FP in other colours. However for every Scott McDonald there is a Andy Roddie. On paper there should be more money on offer too. On a three year deal, 2 remaining I'd like to think we'd hold on to him until at least January, ideally next summer then cash in, however for all we know he could have a release clause in his contract and a eager agent.

  8. Can't you get all your business done in one post Dibble?

As for that website, I'm sure there is the odd bit here and there but you have to scour through a load of pish first e.g.:

    "16 Jun 2011 22:24:50

motherwell to hold press conferance tommorow, unvailing omar daley and rory mcalister."

  9. Our squad isn't strong enough. We're in a better position than some teams (Killie) at the moment but if we went in with the squad we have just now then 2/3 injuries and we're fucked. The rest of the teams will likely add a few players and if we don't and go in with the squad we have just now then i think we'll be bottom 3.

Don't really understand your argument here, so we have to go with today's squad while everyone else gets to continue to add to their squad, up to the season opening day or the transfer window closing? Even if that was the case, the team I listed is a little light in a few areas, but by no means woefully weak, we'd still do OK.

Of course if any team loses 2-3 players they would have their back up against the wall, even more so a hypothetical full physio table week before the squad report back for pre-season.

Essentially though, what your suggesting won't happen and never was going to.

  10. If we went in with the team we have just now then relegation would be a serious possibility.

Absolute nonsense. So we pretty much equal our league placing from the 09-10 season, haven't really lost integral players as yet, had two managerial upheavals running at Xmas (you would think we'd avoid that next year), we're maintaining our playing budget when everyone else's is decimated with a team growing and gelling together and a manager increasing his knowledge of the opposition and his teams capabilities. What precedent or reasonable argument can you have to suggest relegation is on the cards with a team from the following at present:

    ---------------------- Randolph --------------------------

    Saunders - Hutchinson - Craigan - Hammell

    -- Hateley ----------- Forbes ---------- Lasley --

    ------- Humphrey -------------------- Murphy -------

    ------------------------ Higdon --------------------------

I think many overlook if almost everyone else in the SPL (gruesome twosome and Hearts - I don't know how, exempt) is losing around £400k from their wage pool it means they can't attract anyone of any quality ..... and that's our opposition. You're giving too much respect to some of the other pish in this league and how they will perform.

However don't let the fact its mid June and there's still 2 months till the transfer window closes get in the way.

  11. The BBC have updated their website to include additional stats on each player, catchup to Sky no doubt, however it seems a little more in-depth.

Good start, however could try harder ..... Yassin Moutaouakil is listed along with a load of guys we just released.

    BBC Player Stats

Or is it the first time I've scrolled down far enough and noticed it?

  12. There was a significant change in us when he went off against Dundee Utd. and continued until he returned, however I would argue that either Hutchison (even half a season) or Randolph.

Check out Lasley's photo on SkySports, is that really him?
