  1. I'm kinda with Milo on this one. We have to give our promising young lads like Hutchinson a run in the team to see if they're up to it longer term. He's on a fairly lengthy contract and I reckon if he shines in the next few months we could persuade him to sign a longer deal (even if it is an extra 1 year). It gives us a far better chance of getting a decent transfer fee for him, which we're going to start to need more & more. If Navarro signs it would probably be an 18-month deal so even if he was better than what we've got then his resale value wouldn't be as high because genuine interest wouldn't start until probably this time next year.

However, I take your point. If he was good enough to improve the team then absolutely, give him a chance. For me, that would mean probably bringing him in for Craigan. I don't see Hamilton or St. Mirren overtaking us in the league but I also don't see us challenging Hearts for a Euro place so it would be a good spell to bring in a few youngsters.

  2. Length of contract will have been the clincher for Fitzpatrick. Furthermore, if we wanted to offer him more money I'm sure we could have.

    All the best Marc.

Good point. We wont automatically be offering maximum wage to everyone we offer a contract with. We offered him what we thought he was worth.

Can't fault him for both wanting some extra security and a change of scenery.

  3. With Fitzpatrick still humming & hawing over a new contract I take it he wont be in the squad seeing as he's out of contract. I presume Forbes will be handed a start on the left of midfield and that will be the only change from Sunday.

I think (OK hope would be more accurate) we'll take a point from this. The back 4 will need to be on their game tonight with Goodwillie & Conway coming back for them.

  4. All this talk of strikers has got me thinking, what happened/is happening with Gary Smith...? I seem to remember him featuring in one first team game and he doesn't seem to have been heard of since. Perhaps not surprising with Sutton, Murphy, Gow, Blackman, Casagolda and McHugh being ahead of him in the queue for the last six months. With three of them away but again talk of us trying to bring in a forward, just wondereed whether he had been discarded...

He got loaned out to Dumbarton earlier in the season and played a few games for them. He hasn't played with them for a couple of months so I'm not sure if his loan expired or whether he got injured and came back to us.

  5. Is Blackman definately away then? Read a few conflicting direct quotes from Stuart McCall in a couple of interviews.

He's just signed a new 2 1/2 year deal at Blackburn. It was assumed that once he got his contract at Blackburn sorted out he would be punted out on loan again until the end of the season - sure I read that somewhere. If we get him until the end of the season it would be a major boot in the baw to Brown and his so-called bigger team. I'm not too confident of getting him back though!

  6. Even if Jennings is 100% in the clear with this then the way that the whole thing's been handled in the media will no doubt ensure that there's no way Jennings will renew his contract with us and head South in the summer (at the latest).

Blue Square are offering decent odds on that happening as well!!!!

  7. I can only agree with the folk saying that we didn't do enough to take anything out the game. We played some nice stuff until the last third then it all broke down. Enough has been said of that woeful referee performance so I wont bother typing stuff that's already been said.

The players lost their discipline due to the bizarre decisions in the second half which meant that an equaliser didn't look like happening. But I can't blame them - I would have done the same!

I find it hard to agree with folk that thought Kyle had a good game. On the way home Sandy Clark said he was "immense" and I almost crashed the car. Am I the only one that thinks that Hearts would be a better side without him? The 3 or 4 times they carved us open, he wasn't involved. When they play through the likes of Templeton or Skacel instead of punting the ball up the park to Kyle they look far more effective.

  8. I think John Boyle put a hell of a lot of trust in Brown and took him for his word with this "gentleman's agreement".

Not going into the rights & wrongs of doing so / not doing so but I think Boyle will be seriously scabbing about this one. The official statement with the loyalty dig probably hints at that.

I'd be shocked if our next appointment isn't tie up into a very good contract. Although knowing our luck he'll be utter shite and cost us a fortune to punt!

It'll be interesting to see if Brown has another "gentleman's agreement" at Aberdeen. I think he'll be made to sign a contract with Milne knowing this guy's word isn't worth shit.

On second thoughts, Brown & Knox are history - don't give a flying fuck what they get up to from now on.

  9. There's a copy of the offical statemen on the Aberdeen-mad site plus this wee opinion at the bottom:

"Although AFC officials have been reported saying they want an experienced gaffer to replace McGhee, appointing septuagenarian Brown would have been a bizarre move for a club with loftier ambitions than merely escaping relegation and finishing mid-table.

Brown would have no long-term future at AFC, will not be poached by a bigger club even if he does well, and will not win us the league, so AFC would have had nothing to gain from it at all.

Hopefully the board will pursue an alternative route, preferably attempting to uncover the next big thing rather than 15 years ago's distinctly mediocre scraps."

Spat tea all over my laptop when I read that bit in bold!

  10. Good point Steve D. This is on the BBC website today:

Motherwell are trying to prepare for two matches within the space of four days. They are away to Dundee United on Saturday followed by a home match with Hearts next Tuesday.

The Fir Park pitch is currently playable as the under-soil heating has been on constantly since the bad weather began.

"The pitch is being monitored twice a day, but with the under-soil heating being on it's costing us a fortune," added Dempster
