Ouch!! christ we had a number of strikers at the time and were short in midfield, that was madness.....anyway great to see a more balanced approach to player recruitment nowadaysTheo Robinson.

Watched the Burton v Birm game last week and Irvine was absolutely outstanding, shame we didn't land him...who was the flopped striker

Thought Dunne had a good game, seems like a decent player despite the earlier misgivings

Just seen the highlights and noticed it was Rose who closed down and initially tackled the Hearts player allowing Tait to gain possession and feed Moult for that sublime finish. You can't say its an assist but its the type of thing that does show his value to the team.

I used to work the scoreboard some years ago so was at the back of the stand next to the media guys and to be fair Richard Gordon (and Craig Paterson and Murdo McLeod) were nice guys and always happy to chat. I think you maybe right about it being editorial cause previously on the long drive home you got far wider post match coverage

Sportscene and sportsound are becoming like radio clyde on a bad day. Driving home Saturday hoping to catch up on what happened around the country and all we got was over 20 minutes wittering about Celtic game and the weekly fawning interview with McInness. Disappointing sadly not surprising their lack of indepth or even reasonable knowledge of the 'diddy' teans

Totally agree re Rose, actually thought he supported front two well today, although was caught too far forward at their goal...he does a lot of 'grunt' work that often goes unoticed, always showing at throw ins, playing simple short passes, and closing down space. It is the type of role that is never fully appreciated except by teammates and manager.I know he doesn't seem to be floating many people's boats but I think Rose had a great game in a role which is rarely going to grab the headlines but is essential to allow the creative players time to do their stuff. Still I've gone for Kipre as he was immense.
Isn't it great though to actually have a dilemma on who to chose across most of the team.
Anyways regards mom has to be Kipre who was outstanding

I get where you are coming from and I actually think Robbo is covering both issues...immediate strengthening plus options for the futureLook at how many people on here were calling for Robinson's head at the end of last season. Where was the patience or long-term planning from them?
Why is anyone surprised that Robinson is focusing on short-term signings when most managers lose their jobs in months rather than years and when some 'fans' are 90 minutes away from racing on to here to remind us that they never really rated him?
No manager is allowed the luxury of long-term planning.

Couldn't agree more Coop. When I heard about this signing I thought someone would have a go about it, but like you I think this is a sensible move which covers a number of bases.A number of signings that Robinson has made are only 1 year unless they do enough To earn a longer contract. To me this seems to suggest that he would like to be promoting from the 20s next season, if they have progressed to a level where they can step up on a permanent basis. The youth players that are involved the first team at the moment are doing a fantastic job but are they really ready to do the full season? Robison looks like he has a plan for the future. Let's see how he gets on.
Robbo needs to buy time and have a number of options to cover signings not working out and/or U20s not fullfilling potential.
You need youngsters with the mentality to overcome obstacles and competition to reach the first team (not to see it as a right of passage) and grab their chance when it comes.
No more Blyths on 3 year deals is a big positive...now thats the type of signing it is right to have a go at, not this one which says 'prove yourself'

Realise it won't be convenient for the majority but it is a cracking surface and its only 40 minutes up the motorway...having made the journey the other way for 30 years or so from a purely selfish point of view it will make it easier for me to see who could potentially kick on!

Hmmm are you perfect Steelboy? Have you ever got somethings wrong at your work, have you ever had the actual responsibility to formulate a plan, see its not working and then change it, have you ever had to put a team of people together, motivate and train them.I don't get the credit Robinson. He's got a week to work on the starting line up and made an arse of it, he changed the formation at least three times in the first 45 minutes. We could have lost the game in the first hald as much as we won it in the second half. Robinson was lucky.
Campbell made a huge difference when he came on. Seeing a Motherwell midfielder reading the game, being aggressive and making tackles was a contrast to the previous two league games. Bowman was much better than Fisher but his individual performance is still miles below what we need, effort isn't enough.
From the tone of your posts I doubt it as if you have then you will realise managing anything is not an exact science, and perhaps be a bit more realistic in your expectations.
It seems to me you have an irrational dislike for our manager which transcends the normal debate and differences of opinion quite rightly aired on here, but I will give you this you have been consistent in your view of him.
For now I am happy with what he has done since he stepped in. As regards the likes of Campbell/McLean he has proved he is willing to put them in but they now have to prove they are up to the task. If they do they will play more often simples, but expecting them to be regular starters every week is unrealistic at this stage of their development
As you say Campbell changed things when he came on. Wonder who made that decision? But I suppose in your eyes he should be castigated for not starting with him so deserves no credit for making the change.

I see Marv declared he had a 'tight' hamstring so was not in Oxford squad today, and did not travel with the team. Hmmmm I smell sh###

Agree with all of that but what does 'shilpit' mean? Thats a new one for me and I am often accused of using strange words!I give credit to the manager for changing things after an abysmal first half. Tanner and Fisher seemed unable to cope with RC's "physicality": they for me will always be the most "street wise" XI in the league. That's not a compliment. Sendy-off Boy should be driving a plough.
Campbell and Bowman were a great improvement, the latter giving great support to Moult, who had been completely isolated in the first half. I also thought MacLean showed promise when he came on.
The manager may consider the two young Scottish midfielders worthy of more starts, and they certainly offered more dig and passing options.
Haste ye back, Elliot Frear: we missed your drive down the flanks. You may look a shilpit wee guy but you get kicked up and down and never give up.
We would have lost this match last year. We produced much more fight after HT and Campbell and MacLean were contributors to that.

I see BBC reporter is crediting our victory to changing formation to 3 5 2. Couldn't make it today, is that an accurate report?
Great to see a win being ground out when not playing well and a manager prepared to make the right changes at the right time.

Ya bezzer seems to think the opposite (ie Airdrie fans not happy with him), but then he has been putting a pretty negative spin on most things recently.Being brought up and living in Airdrie most of my life, I know quite a few Airdrie fans that regularly go to their games. They've all been complimentary on Ferguson. One for the future definitely, I'm happy with that piece of business.
Never seen the lad play but happy to trust the clubs judgement on this and the immediate loan back plus having him involved at Motherwell during the week seems sensible

As ever a well thought out sensible post making good critical points but fair and reasonable.Well I was at the game and its fair to say its one of the oddest I've witnessed in almost 60 years. I'll not comment on the 3 red cards as I haven't seen them in detail. I thought mistakes were made in the team selection. We lacked pace and movement up front and perhaps, and I say perhaps, MacLean could have given us that. Predictably left wing was a problem for us. We started off well and controlled the game and swung over cross after cross into Saints' box with little effect. Plenty of possession and graft but no cutting edge. After perhaps 20 minutes of pressure we failed to register one effort on goal. Saints broke away and predictably scored 2 goals with 2 attacks. the first one relying on spades of good luck. Bowman and Fisher worked damned hard but did nothing admittedly, with poor service. Poor defending did cost us and thats what Saints are good at - making few mistakes and scoring when the chance presents itself. Over the piece we didn't play badly but lacked experience and streetwiseness. Up front is where our problems lie. Neither Fisher nor Bowman look like doing the business at this level. Hard work in life by itself counts for nothing.
As we lost men Saints began to dominate the game as you'd expect. They've now picked up 6 points by beating 2 teams in close fought games as they do.
I can't go on without referring to the referee. Red cards apart he had a poor and inconsistent game. He missed 2 blatant hand balls, at close range and a cast iron penalty in my book when Paton, I think, grabbed Moult by the throat at a corner. However you dress it up Paton did not do that by accident. I'd also like him to explain to me why he checked our players 6 times for stealing yards at throw ins and did not pull up Saints once, not once, for similar indiscretions. Failing to give the advantage when Moult was fouled was not something you expect from an experienced referee.
As far as Robbo is concerned he must address 2 weaknesses: occasional errors at the back and lack of bite/punch up front. The latter is now becoming a worry.
Overall though I'm not overly concerned. We've had 2 tough closely fought league games and sustained two losses with little or no luck. Normally after a defeat I'm hard on the team, but not today. I was one who applauded them off the field for fighting well even when down to 8 men and not giving up. A number of players, including Louis Moult, appreciated that and came over to acknowledge the applause.
One final thought is it normal practice for the 3 match officials to leave the pitch before most of the players? I always thought the ref was last to leave.

Can't think of any in recent times. Think the big man could be immense for us. He has a good head on his shoulders as well, watching highlights, at very end of match a ball was played into the box, County man had possession but he didn't dive in, forced him back then ft whistle went. Brains and Brawn that will do for me

Aye Bigi caught in posession to start it all, maybe not fully fit after missing SundayJust caught the highlights, looked some game after half time. End to end stuff and lots of chances. McLean took his goal really well, and was onside for me. Few good saves from Carson and Fisher & Moult really unlucky not to score. Hard to really tell from footage if appeal will be successful or not, but definitely a penalty.
Only thing that stood out as constructive criticism was County's first goal was an absolute horror show from our point of view. From our throw in, a relatively wee guy like Schalk waltzes through three defenders with absolute ease. Top finish mind you.

It would appear this is one rule you didn't know about mate. I actually thought you were on the wind up with your Robbo/Burrows comment....maybe you were, and if so you have hooked me..... because if not hope you enjoying your big slice of humble pieListen MATE. I know all sorts of rules. If this has taken place Robinson has to walk. Burrows while we're at it actually, something like this can't go on.
What we need atm is clarity though and I urge everyone not to panic. Don't panic.

Scottish Premiership Game 4: Hearts (H) Saturday 26/08/17

I think Rose was in the team to provide exra defensive and offensive height against Hearts as well as doing a lot of grunt work. I rate Campbell highly but he is not exactly tall With the various permutations now available to us I expect to see a horses for courses approach depending on opposition and game circumstances (ie bringing Campbell on to help protect a lead)
