  1. Well troops the hour is nearly upon us, the only thing that can spoil it is the rain, and I can tell you its absolutely pishing down at the moment in CPH, has been all day...thunder and lightning.. its so heavy I am loosing my SKY signal...anyway...

One thing nobody has mentioned here and its something that still helps me through the days here is 'the burds'...they are absolutly stunning!!! I mean stunning. You will all see what I mean when you get here :whistling:

They will love the kilts as well.... :notworthy::thumbup:

If you are in CPH on wed night and feel like a tourist take a trip into Tivoli (95DKK to get in) there will be live bands in the evening, there are bars and food places everywhere and its where all the burds go to strut their stuff - thats if its no raining of course, otherwise stay in the pubs. The irish bars in the town are ok, The Globe, Dubliners are both football friendly places with decent beer and food.

Take a canal trip during the day, best way to see the city in a oner..

one word of caution to you all - Denmark is a bike friendly country, you will see what I mean when you get here but be really really carefull when you walk off the pavements as the bikers will run you down without a qualm, they see the bike ways as their domain, and not pedestrians, if you do get wiped out the polis will have no sympathy for you either.

See you all in Ryans on Thursday, may see some of you on Wed as well in CPH somewhere...

  2. As our Danish freind says, we all mostly use a visa debit card for everything. even to buy a loaf...

you can get DK cash out the normal hole in the walls with your UK bank cards, dont think its too dear in charges, Its handy.

When the missus and kids are over she uses her clydesdale card all the time no problems

for a rough exchange rate in the head calculation 100DKK is around £12.50, thats the sums I use anyway

I will buy all your DKK after the game at a good rate :wallbash: lol

  3. few questions regarding Billund airport to Odense

there are 4 of us arriving on the thursday AM ryanair flight from stanstead, is the train the best option?

    how much is it?

is it worth booking in advance to reduce cost?

with the recession, a few of us are shortly to be laid off, so we need to watch the cash.

Is it ok in denmark to bevvie on the streets?

we are coming back on the morning friday flight, so we are not bothering with a hotel.

What time do the bars generally close in Odense?

    thanks.

Putting in the departure (Billund airport, bus) and destination (Odense st) in here (http://www.rejseplanen.dk/bin/query.exe/en?ml=m&) gives you the options

might be worth booking online as there will be a few looking to get the train at the same time, this should guarentee a seat at least.

    Hope this helps

    S

  4. Don't suppose you've got a link to download the google translate tool directly Stuart? Had a quick search on google, but theres a few options coming up, not sure which one to go for!

    Cheers.

I think this is the one I downloaded a while back, living in Denmark it has been a godsend because Danish is not the easist language to guess!!

    http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/...mp;answer=81376

Once installed click th etranslte button when on the page you want to see in english

  5. Here is an extract of the costs for landing and waiting at Odenese airport...(http://www.odense-lufthavn.dk/) you can see its quite expensive. So this all adds to the cost. Also going by the website it dosent look that big so it may not be able to take a 737 sized aircraft, hence the limited numbers

I work and stay in Copenhagen (as far as I can find out the only Motherwell supporter here)and as you will all find out when you all arrive 'everything' in Denmark is a lot more expensive compared to what we think is normal. you can be asked for three notes for a mars bar or can of coke!! My weekly c****y carry out is £32 and thats for one chicken curry, rice and noodles. (if you buy a car you have to pay 180% tax on top of the OTR cost £50k-60k for a Ford Focus - not relative to the arguments but it demonstrates the cost of things here.)

Try and avoid the glitzy street cafes and tourist trap places in Copenhagen city centre, find 'BODEGAS' these are small drinking dens that generally have cheaper booze, and if you are inclined you can also smoke in them. It was so refreshing last week for me when I was over for the game on Thursday to get change from a tenner in the FP club for a round of drinks.

Anyway - when you get there get your slabs of beer out of NETTO, Aldi (if you can find one), Best Buy or Super Brugen. Nettos are everywhere, and these are the cheapest places for beer, get as much duty free spirits as you can at the airport as whisky, vody etc can be 30-40 notes a bottle, even in the cheap shops, and thats not for a litre!! Wine is expensive as well, but a box is about 100-130 DKK (£12-£15) Dont expect any quality vino for that price either - Bucky is non existent here.

If you are driving from Copenhagen to Odense remember the toll on the bridge is about £36 each way, the tolls take credit cards its a lot quicker than cash...

I am really looking forward to seeing the claret and amber troops in the town on Wed night and then in Odense....(and before anybody asks, no, I have no room left, even the floor is booked out...lol)
