  1. Stuart Baxter anyone.

Sacked by Finland last month. We have a habit of never appointing someone that has managed elsewhere in Scottish football. The last Scottish club to have employed a motherwell boss as manager was Clyde in 1986 with Craig Brown, then Tommy McLean at Morton in 1984.

  2. You certainly didn't manage to read what I wrote. I was parsing the article, not giving an assessment on Gannon's veracity.

You stated Gannon was ignored or passed over by Dallas when in fact letters had been sent and were not opened by Jim Gannon. Gannon had no right to call Dallas' integrity into question and say that he had received no response.

I simply agreed with the previous post and then gave an additional example to why i don't support scottish referees. If you check, you'll find you linked my story with Dougal to Jim Gannon(even though my incident was under the Craig Brown era).

When a former high-ranking referee(i believe he retired in May 2009) comes oot wi shite like he did, then it doesn't say much for them.

Apologies for that. It was amazing that Dougal blamed Forbes but with referees being under constant criticism and no right of reply Dougal has become a proxy to try and justify decisions or at least try to explain why an official made a blunder. That is a different issue although and just because Dougal wrote some pish in a newspaper doesn't mean he was a bad ref or lacking integrity.

  3. Did you actually read what Dallas said in that interview? It supports Gannon's claims that his correspondence (or, at least, a significant portion of his correspondence) was ignored. Dallas just passes the blame onto the Post Office delivering it late - no wonder he switched to email, eh?

    From the article

"Finally, I find it staggering that Mr Gannon did not feel compelled to open two letters from the Scottish FA before conducting his latest media conference."

Take off your claret and amber glasses, they are clearly interfering with your ability to read.

  4. +1

Stuart Dougal's comments in his article following Forbes' goal against the h**s for me, sums up why I have no support for Scottish referees.

He defended the linesman involved by saying it was the player's fault for making the linesman make a call.

Despite being clearly several yards onside, he blamed the player for making sure the goal was scored(even though Craigan's effort could have hit the post or even went by).

I also fear that Dougal will takeover from Dallas.

Stuart Dougal has nothing to do with it. Jim Gannon went on the radio and called Hugh Dallas a liar. He said that he had gotten no reply and that gave him the right to spout drivel to the press when the letter was sitting in his mail. He commented on decisions that had nothing to do with MFC and went on a tirade against the full refereeing system.

If you can't see why that approach is counter productive and bringing the game into disrepute I feel sorry for you.

  5. okay then, if you say so.

So what part of lying about a letter from Hugh Dallas did you like?

Scotsman article with details. Complaints made by Dallas are very similar to recent incidents. To make the incident even more embarrassing Gannon was commenting on refereeing decisions that had nothing to do with Motherwell. The hysteria caused by Gannon is the exact kind of behaviour that encourages the paranoid and delusional Scottish football fans to take their 'grievances' with referees to the next level, which in the past has included smashed windows and death threats.

Not exactly anything to be proud of.

  6. Gannon was 100% right in his criticism, these self righteous arseholes are trying to gloss over the continual fuck-ups they make. When they right that they'll maybe get less criticism but if you're going to make the same errors week after week, year after year you have no right to complain about someone calling it as it is.

They have a point about the level of abuse coming from ra Shellic but they're trying to twist that into a blame game aimed at everyone else

Nope. Gannon was an arsehole who couldn't keep his mouth shut over referees. Dallas tried to have private correspondence addressing his concerns but Gannon called him a liar and used the media to attack his integrity. The problem being ofcourse, was that Gannon couldn't be arsed to check his postbox for the infamous letter.

Gannon should have been fined for his open and dishonest criticism of an SFA official. Jim Gannon's behaviour brought shame to this club.

  7. I think a direct quote from a Specials song; later covered by SLF, so this is cool as I think inadvertent.....

    Back on topic-

Although Andy P's stats don't agree, Reynolds has been outstanding for our club since he got his first cap. His disciplinary record for an SPL centre-back has been first class; and I know he got booked by a wank at the w/end.

Always been a fan of Reynolds, though don't understand why he hasn't featured more at left-back? I respect Gannon trying him in the holding MF role; the guy is left-footed, FFS! Just 11% of Europeans are left-footed!

We're commenting that Scotland has problem left back position and we have problem left mid position. Why not move Reynolds to LB and Hammell into midfield? (Many comments that he is better going forward than at back. Look at Gareth Bale whom I think is still listed as a Left Back in the comps in the papers)....

(Qualifier- 1230 my time; might be pish; might be typos....)

    SD

This post is nonsense. Mark Reynolds doesn't play left back or left wing or centre midfield because he has a limited range of passing and has very poor delivery. Stephen Craigan takes all the free kicks in the back four, that should tell you enough.

Our left footed players are afraid of the touch line. (Stevie Hammell excepted) Fitzpatrick and Forbes are much better centre mids (much better being a very relative term) than they are wide players. John Sutton and Nick Blackman occasionally play left mid (Sutton tries his best but is sometimes like a man down, Blackman likewise) We haven't had a natural left wing since Simon Lappin and have persevered with "forwards" playing on the left almost exclusively since Pearson left.

Stevie Hammell is a better defender than anyone gives him credit for and since his return to Fir Park he hasn't had the freedom to attack with no cover in front to fill in if he goes on the attack. Hammell isn't a natural attacker any way and makes only one or two forays forward in a game.

On the Saunders call up. Good for him but I would rather he played for the under 21s since he would definitely get a game and probably take a leadership role in that squad which now contains few experienced players. The Faroes game will be like the under 21 games with him sitting on the bench and watching Paul Caddis play 90 minutes.

  8. I can't believe so many think - what we have is as good is it ever will get.

The current system is the best possible

    Financially:

We play 38 games, the most a top division can play

The structure allows TV deals to be sold on 4 OF games, Edinburgh derbies, etc

    Competitively:

A reachable and solid measure of success for clubs outside the OF in the form of the top six

Final games in the season are against closest rivals

Minus points for the 1 up one down system. They should AT LEAST have a playoff for the 11th team vs 2nd in the first.

    Sustainability:

A league big enough to encompass more than 25% of Scottish League teams and over 50% of full time teams

Any bigger and the lower divisions will suffer from the better (and almost invariably bigger) teams being removed from their division

  9. This is a stupid proposal. There are an odd number of games for a start meaning that there will be an uneven number of home and aways. The OF won't vote for having to play one another away twice one season with only one home match.

The point that never gets answered when people want to expand the league by 4 teams is what

happens to the first. The reason no one wants to expand relegation to a playoff is because of the massive gap between Premier money and First money. Extending the premier league try to solve this problem by making the SPL poorer which also makes the first division poorer. If you have 16 premier teams how long is full time professional football going to last in the lower divisions and rather than creating a safety net for middling teams like us a bad season would see us staring into the abyss rather than just the crap hole that is the current first.

I think we have an optimum system right now that creates drama and allows well run clubs to turn a profit. We have had a few reconstructions in the past and they were all heralded as saving Scottish football. Nothing is going to change the players on the park and quite frankly I would rather watch Well vs Hibs hearts aberdeen celtic rangers dundee united etc instead of games against Morton QotS etc. Novelty will only last so long until people start rolling out contraction of the SPL to make sure quality players are playing quality players every week.

  10. Celtic had a decent side out for this bounce game, not surprising they beat us convincingly.

CELTIC: Cervi (Giorando); Wilson, Hooiveld (Misun), Rogne (Gallacher), Mulgrew (Kurakins); McGinn (Towell), Crosas (P Twardzik), Ki, F Twardzik (Gormley); Trialist (Keatings), Hooper.

Wonder who was playing for us.

  11. BBC Highlights

We scored a good goal today and Killie didn't threaten. Hopefully the rest will do Lasley and Craigan good and they will be on top form on Thursday. Can't beat 3 points without some key players. Blackman did well up front and he will be pushing for a starting spot soon. Casagolda was alright, some nice play but needs to work on his touch. Page did OK too, Villa was a handful and he dealt well but I think the only time he actually got forward with any real effect was the goal. Roll on Thursday and come on the well.

  12. Right first post on here.

Got the BBC highlights recorded. You can find them here.

Video transcoding program was giving me some hassle so you have to listen to John Sutton for a bit before the highlights.

Decent quality mp4 and only 9MB, hope this helps those who haven't seen the goals.
