This game was billed as two complete opposite styles but it really boils down to they kept the ball out there own net more than we did.defensively were an absolute shambles to lose 4 goals in a semi final to st mirren isn't acceptable,we're just not aggressive enough at defending our own box or even in the wide areas.i think we got it wrong over the summer by keeping to many failed defenders on from last season and we're paying the price for it.i really like the manager and I'm 100% behind him but he really needs to start sorting the defence out of we want to keep improving,we really do defend like school boys far too often.the only good thing that might come from this game is that some of our current defenders and have now shown the manager that they aren't upto the job and we're already looking for replacements come January.
-
i get why we came into this season with stama as our number 9 but he ain't the answer.the issues we have in defence are completely our own making,we didn't need to keep both O'donnell and mcginn on,it should have been one or the other or ideally neither and the wages used to try and improve an already shit defence, gordon was a part of that shit defence last season but yet we go into a semi final with him and mcginn,it just won't do,Johnny k is a bit part part player at best, not the solid right back that we're crying out for, longelo has been a good signing but today and the livi game, he was awful but we don't have another to come in and give him a rest for a couple of games.throw in a piss poor keeper and it's a recipe for disaster.its going to be same old same old while the likes of mcginn and gordon are here,if any good comes of today it should show the manager that the defence needs ripped up and starting again.
-
Totally agree we don't need to abandon anything, what were doing is working to a point but to keep making progress we need some more players in that are comfortable in the system and some that can actually defend,it was always going to take time.theres absolutely no doubt though that were paying the price for having most of the defenders that were here last season,we needed a complete change in that department over the summer and it never happened.
-
that was a strange one, were far better with him in the team and offers something none of the other midfielders do.welsh for me should also have started,he's came from a club that wins almost everything going,we could have done with some of that experience of getting over the line in games likes this.
-
I like what the manager is trying to do and there's no reason we can't be relatively successful doing it but we can't keep defending like we have been this season or it will always be one step forward and two back.we needed a clearout of defenders in the summer and it didn't happen plus we now have a keeper that isn't good enough.having gordon, mcginn and Jonny k in the starting line up in a semi final is pretty grim considering they were all on the books last season and we were just as bad defensively then.
-
Were a neat and tidy side with a seriously soft underbelly, were an absolute joke defensively,we have a goalkeeper and centre halves that inspire no confidence, rip it up and start again in January.
-
Gordon was poor at livingston so there's every chance mcginn might come in,we really need to start getting a settled backline playing together whatever happens.
-
Exactly fingers crossed mate.
-
Unless I've missed something and apologies if I have that was back on the 16th that the club confirmed over 7000 sold,if that's correct I'm sure we have sold a good few more since then.
-
I said earlier in the thread that he looked like he was playing with a pair of flippers on his feet but you have summed it up way better than I ever could 😂.
-
Bringing slattery on was key,we needed someone to take the ball forward from a central area as it was sideways to many times today, the winning goal came from that and it was a peach.
-
Eli just is a top drawer player.
-
Too many look like they have never seen a football before
-
Totally agree with that,I think there's far to many players that have believed the early season hype and think they can stroll through games.
-
Fuck sake is longelo playing with flippers on
-
Passing the ball about in areas were we're not comfortable yet again 🤬
-
Ordinarily that would be an option grizzly and it could well be but not for me this time,he's hardly kicked a ball this season,he will be far from match fit and isn't the most mobile at the best of times.i think we will most likely move O'Donnell over but whatever happens we will definitely miss the attacking threat that longelo offers if he is out for a period of time.
-
We aren't anywhere near good enough defensively,we keep getting into winning positions in games and it's the daft goals and individual mistakes that are costing us,all the nice football in the world will count for nothing if we don't sort it out,we have a semi final coming up and it will be no surprise to anyone if we play well and don't make the final.yesterday feels much worse than letting the lead slip at parkhead or the collapse at tyne castle,we need to start learning our lessons and quick as this is a really bad habit we have developed so soon into the season.
-
There's definitely truth in that, even this early in the season we have created the blueprint for the opposition on how to play against us,all they need to do is stay in the game and we will crumble, the next game at home could very well be a carbon copy of today.
-
We have been very good at times this season but we are mentally weak and it's cost us far to many points already,it's happening far to often for it to be anything other than a worrying trend.that second half was atrocious and that's putting it mildly,we threw that game away rather than the opposition having to do much.
-
We're now seeing this picture on an almost weekly basis,it's now becoming a serious issue our inability to put teams away.
-
Hopefully yesterday will be a learning curve that there will be times when the ball needs to be kicked long or booted into the stand and we regroup from there.
-
Exactly,I've no problem with him doing media work while still playing for us,he's clearly trying to build a new career path for when he hangs up his boots and good luck to him,I'll be very surprised if he's still with us come the end of January,it will benefit both parties if he was to move on.
-
aye they tried to kick us off the park that game then robinson came out after it and lied that our fans were cheering and laughing when it looked like a st mirren player got a bad injury,I can't stand that wee cretin,it's just a pity that either him or kettlewell will be in the next round.
-
Exactly,more than capable of it.
