  1. Yes back in the day shorts were only available in white, black, navy blue or grey. So white was our preferred choice or occasionally black.
  2. Interestingly the use of C&A hooped socks is relatively recent as prior to 2013 none of our home kits had them. The first time we used black socks with an amber turnover was November 1928. The last time we used black socks with C&A turnover on our home kit was in season 56-57. Sometimes it’s good to have a nod to previous kits and a one off use of black socks would not be unjustified as we wore them on and off for nearly 30 years.
  3. I agree it’s the scourge of the modern day game. With the World cup on the horizon, too many players will accessorise their national kit with unnecessary fluorescent footwear. For me it’s a timeless kit, and we won the Scottish Cup in 1952 wearing something similar. However, kit designers and clubs will always have an eye on the youth market as they are the target for the majority of their replica sales. Some manufacturers/clubs managed to bridge the gap between a teams historical kit and modern design and some have failed miserably. I believe tradition is important especially on a teams home kit, as when ignored for a period of time a club can lose their identity. As I’ve stated before I would always insist on a full claret hoop of some description on our home kit. Teams like Boca Juniors, Celtic always insist on a full hoop/hoops and I believe Motherwell should follow suit. A full hoop removes the ‘it’s only an advertising band’ tag and makes it an integral part of the design.
  4. I used Macrons online kit design service a while back and posted this 50s style throwback kit based on one of their templates. Retro is not for everyone, however, a teams historical kit archive will always have an influence on kit designers.
  5. I’ll be shocked if that comes to pass, however, I have championed a one off return of black socks with an amber and claret turnover.
  6. These things happen. They obviously jumped the gun, however, I suspect it wouldn’t have been fair on last seasons sponsor MFL to unveil another sponsor and kit before the cup final. I’m sure it will be worth the wait with two cracking kits and a classy sponsor to match. No pressure!
  7. As Levein would say natural order has been restored as England go 2-1 up. It’s going to be tough ask to win this, however, we just need to keep battling.
  8. It looked a bit Hearts/Arsenal without amber sleeves. However, I suspect this would suit Dukla Prague more than us.
  9. Another Macron release. Hednesford Town home shirt.
  10. Never fear, I’m back in the real world again. It should be classy over fashion every time.
  11. For the ‘record’, is that your ‘vinyl’ answer?
  12. Still no clues on who our new shirt sponsor will be? It can make or break a shirt as we all know. Money is important, however, I hope we don't sell our soul to the man.
  13. If we could guarantee to do that I would happily give up tradition in exchange for money. Nigeria are clearly on to something and I recon we should follow suit. Motherwell fashionista kit could be the next big thing for non-football fans. Who’s the UK’s top fashion designer? Flow should get on the phone to them asap and arrange a design deal, Motherwell are going global.
  14. The kind of roar that Scotland can only dream about.
  15. I’m not a big fan of claret sleeves. We had them on our 2008-09 Bukta top and it wasn’t the best look.
  16. I’m hoping we resist the temptation to go down the Hibernian route. Keep it classy Motherwell, keep it classy. I have the fear!
  17. Sublimated patterns are back. New Macron Hibernian shirt. I’m not keen on the fussy collar.
  18. These are just mock ups similar to what I have done in the past (I did notice them on Twitter). When designing kits for an existing manufacturer it’s best to use one of their recent templates as they do vary from brand to brand. No point in putting a Macron logo on a Nike template as that would be complete fantasy (unless that is your intention). I’m lead to believe that we are changing shirt sponsor so McEwan Fraser will be no more. As for these mocks ups there is far too much going on for my tastes. The away is far too Hearts and the home has too much going on design wise. Stripes, claret sleeves, and a graduated colour. Complete design overload. Also, as far as I’m aware we have no plans to release a third kit.
  19. Somethings never change? What was our average attendance last season, I’m thinking it might be similar?
