The recent comments in the managers interviews about being ready for first team football physically, and mentally, all pointed at Adam methinks.

Questionable attitude is what I’ve heard, turning up late for training on a number of occasions is one of the things that has cost him a bit this season (allegedly)

  2. Thought we were decent in possession , trying where possible to get the ball on the deck but lacked efforts on goal after Carson went off

as much as I like Cadden he’s wasted as RWB and I’d actually be happy for him to step aside for a spell on the sides

Wasn’t happy to see Johnson go off, at that stage would have preferred to have seen us play with 3 up top and go for it

Carson going off limited our options with subs and as much as I hope he’s ok  not out for a long time I think we have a decent deputy in Gillespie

Would that be the same season when we were relegated despite having having sellable young assets in the team?

Honestly, other than Lawless, who was the last youth player to be released by Motherwell and managed to carve a sufficiently good career that proved the club wrong?

I don’t disagree with your point about the necessity of making the academy a success. You’re correct about Craggs and co, you’re correct about attracting new talent.

What you, I nor anyone else outside the footballing side of the clubs employ cannot  be correct in saying is that the management team are blocking the progress of our current youth.

We fans honestly don’t know how good  or ready the lads you mention are. Maybe an alternative theory (which is all we have without the facts) is that the loans and one year contracts are there as place holders for the lads coming through?

That would forward thinking. Given the variables (because footballers are not objects), it can’t be articulated in a business plan so I guess we have to have faith and see what happens.

I take your point in regards to place holders which if true would show we have a strategic plan in place which would be great however

we have 8 defenders possibly 9 if I include someone like grimmy who can play at the back and are allegedly looking at another centre half . Why does maguire or any other youth defender not become our 9th choice?

At which stage do our youth become a back up to the first team? There is similar numbers in midfield and a forward line of 5 to pick from before scott comes into contention.

thats effectively the barrier in itself

  4. Personally I’m disapointed at the perceived lack of first team opportunities our younger players will be getting prime example turnbull, maguire etc

when I think back to when pearo,Faddy etc broke through although we toiled in the league I had huge satisfaction at seeing “our own” play for the first team and the club no doubt were satisfied when we sold them

project brave demands a huge level of investment so the academy needs to bear fruit to become sustainable through the SFAs demands. This fruit will be measured by how many players break through and ultimately be funded by ones we sell on.

As a club we have to be realistic of our short term goals and not be “scared” to play a mix of young players who are more than capable of doing a job. Are the likes of sammon/grimmy/ and the new lad at the back far superior to scott/turnbull/maguire?

we have invested in the academy and have a fantastic 20s manager in craggs, we have to give them the opportunity to play or it makes Hammell/Clarkson’s/micks job harder in attracting players into the club at a young age if they think they will get better opportunities across the road.

The first Team and the way it’s set up has massive ramifications for the future of our club Long term

So bring in your non league with a view to selling but please give our youth a chance over players we know will be hard to shift at a profit such as the ones mentioned

There doesn't always have to be a secret story behind what people say to the press.....sometimes it is exactly what it is.

    It's not the white house!

Told by the manager he had a couple of lower league clubs interested he could go , bigi thot he could get a championship club. Didn’t materialise . Bigi stays another year and we all get on like a happy family.

thats my understanding from a current player

happens every day in football, let’s hope like someone else said he can be like another player for us given the opportunity

I heard Cadden and Carson are doubtful and with Campbell suspended and Kipre possibly away. If we get anything from Sunday it could be a minor miracle.....

I’d be reading into this as well and be expecting to say Au revoir to the two of them and biggi as well next week

Recently started working in Hull. In discussing Stuart Elliott (the only obvious connection for myself), the guys say that he is now a priest, and his only other 'option' would have been a terrorist'. Totally unsubstantiated, and, if posted before, apologies.

Off topic: great city, so far. Like all UK and Irish port cities I have visited, to be fair....

Not following this, presuming Elliott was a tad dodgy?

He was sitting in the main stand watching that. Two and a half hours driving down to Stranraer to get a rid neck. My god that was an embarrassing 2nd half. Hartley was being turned inside out by that centre forward and Kipre fared no better against him. What is it with us and only turning up in the first half of games?. The thing that worried me most was our guys getting out muscled all over the midfield by much much smaller players. If Main could concentrate on trying to score goals rather than embarrassingly trying to win fouls by constantly falling over would be a start. Anyway, its preseason and the quicker I forget about this game the better.

Edit: as for the hoofball today (again). Its getting too easily read now by every team and we need to play football on the deck. If I could read every single diagonal ball played from defence from the stands, the footballers on the park did so and mopped it up very easily

Worrying that you say we got out muscled by a smaller team when it appears our game plan is to depend on being big and physical this season

you can argue that when given the opportunity bigi may not have grabbed it however in a midfield 3 of physical players with two wing backs I can’t see how given a run of games and the licence to be our attacking midfielder with 2 holding he wouldn’t thrive

personally I don’t think he has ever been given a long enough run and without him or the likes of turnbull getting an opportunity I can see myself get bored of watching the way we played last season

Hate to write players off before they have started but watching Connor sammon and Main all season gives me the fear

I see Adam Rooney is going to double his salary by moving to non-league Salford City.

This is another great example of why it's so dificult for teams like us to compete even against the non league outfits in the transfer market.

it is frustrating that its difficult to compete with non league, but if a player values the development in his career he will favour us

I know for a fact that's happened this summer for us and we actually obtained a player that was offered more at non league level

wont say who as I wouldn't want to get who told me into bother but you do hope and I know its unlikely in many cases that younger players can forsee longer term gains by coming to a club like us that will help them develop and give them the opportunity to put themselves in the shop window

  10. Couple of things that doesn’t excite me about this signing

    1) feel he’s very similar to bowman and even Main to an extent

    2) we don’t have ball crossers to play into two big lumps up top, nor do we have a creative midfield which inevitably means we are looking at a hump up the park from the back, hoping to pick off second balls from nod downs or hold ups.

Hardly fills me with  excitment for the season ahead!

no creative midfielders, no pacy wingers, and getting rid of the one creative midfielder we have doesn’t have me enthused.

However that said maybe bowman is away and we are still bringing in ryan Gauld for the middle of the park, hmmm

He has signed these guys cos other players must be leaving. I would be amazed if Carson, Kipre and Campbell are still at the club for the start of the new season.

Carson will be sold this window, kipre until Jan at least and Campbell until at least next summer. Caden will be sometime in between that

The arrival of ATS will hopefully mean that Tait can drop back to the RWB position, allowing Cadden to be played more centrally.  I've always felt he's much more effective from here, and with Campbell and either Rose/McHugh/Gorrin providing more defensive qualities I'd hope Cadden could push on again.

    This is absolutely my hope!

cadden and a creative midfielder it’s Campbell would be my first choice in the middle of the park

Played well when he was at Thistle good attacking full back ,yer right getting rid of Hendrie is a bonus . So who is the mystery 99.9 % midfielder ? Looks like the squad is bit heavy and this might stifle our young talent

was excellent for thistle the year of their promotion and had been linked with a lot of clubs up here over the last few years

defo ticks the left wing back/left back box for me, delighted with that one.

now a creative midfielder, a winger and another 30 goal a season forward and il be quite content.

    greedy?
