  1. Randolph is the best I've seen in a Motherwell shirt. The only thing I don't understand is how we didn't get a million pounds for him!
  2. Higginbotham deserves it for the goal alone but you don't really see from the clip there how good the build up play to the goal was.
  3. I'm with you, I want to play as many European games as possible and the earlier we go in the more chance we have of progressing through some rounds against realistically beatable teams. The only concern is if a lot of the out of contract players do leave we could be quite short going into the early matches in much the same way we were against Llanelli.
  4. I mentioned this on Pie and Bovril but if Stevie Hammell is selected for the match it will be his 399th league appearance for the club.
  5. It never fails to amaze me that fans are surprised when this sort of thing happens. Whether you like it or not going to Rangers will be a good move for Nicky Law. First of all he's getting paid a lot more, training at better facilities and playing in front of 10 times as many fans in a world class stadium, for an internationally renown club. Even if he decides to move on from Rangers I absolutely guarantee you that he will get a better deal moving from Rangers to a Championship club than he would moving from Motherwell to a Championship club regardless of what division the two clubs are playing in. If he doesn't move on, he'll sign a better contract than the one he's already going to be much wealthier with in the present. Do you honestly think playing at St. Johnstone or Inverness in front of 3,000 people or playing in front of similar numbers at Alloa is off much consideration to Nicky Law? Any move is risky for a player, this move is as cushy a move as anyone will ever get. Tons of cash, great facilities, big club, almost guaranteed first team football and a great springboard to either move up the levels or move on a club in England. Anyone giving impartial advice to Nicky Law will be saying "sign as soon as you possible can".
  6. I've had my reservations about McCall in the past but I highlighted various aspects of his managerial reign that I felt had to be improved upon (either last season or at the beginning of this season I can't remember) and most of them have been addressed since then. Old Firm Record - won the last two so that's been sorted out Home record - gone from having a poor home record to an excellent home record, only Dundee Utd have beaten us at Fir Park stretching back to October. More entertaining football - despite the high league finish last season I felt we were often a bit stodgy to watch, this season we have played a much better style of football. His cup record isn't so good and was the major black spot of the season, especially the Rangers match, we need to see some improvement there especially since it's unlikely (but not impossible) we'll finish in the top two or three next season. The other thing I've mentioned in the past was that I felt that McCall was fortunate to inherit a good team that was already established as one of the better teams in the league and his managerial abilities would be really tested with a major squad rebuild. That will happen next season, we'll see how he does with that. Hopefully well.
  7. Tade is a physical specimen. Big, very strong with decent pace. More a target man than a finisher although I remember him scoring a cracker against us at Fir Park for Inverness. He's an established first team player at St. Johnstone so even if he hasn't scored as many goals this season as he did for Inverness he obviously offers something to the team. He might be a candidate if Higdon moves on but I can't see us being interested in him if the Player of the Year stays.
  8. My mistake. Bamboozled by a two and a half year contract. Sorry NottsMFC!

  10. Unfortunately today was my last pie at the football. Need to get fit and lose weight. So that's Motherwell down about £40 next season!
  11. Only needs 24 goals to over take Stevie Kirk's Premier League total. Can do that in a season, surely?
  12. I thought the back two were good. I hope Ramsden signs on again as we have looked a lot more solid since he got a run of games. Lasley did well, can't fault his commitment or energy. But in a game that perhaps didn't really take off you have to give it to Humphrey. He was involved in the two key moves and generally had a decent match. For someone that doesn't consider himself a Humphrey fan I think that's the second MotM in a row I've given to him.
  13. Randolph is the best I've seen in my 30 years of going to Fir Park so the chances of getting someone as good or better is extremely unlikely. I think fans are just going to have to accept our next goalkeeper isn't going to be as good as Randolph. Samson was tremendous 2 seasons ago but not quite as good this season but he's a decent goalkeeper, probably in the top 6 in the league and on the edge of international recognition so on the face of it a decent replacement. As it seems likely he will be our goalkeeper next season I think fans should not only give him a chance but also cut him some slack because it might be another 30 years before we have a goalkeeper as good as Randolph again.

    New Away Kit

I'd say I'm not a fan of black kits at all and this is an abysmal effort.
  15. Since the Stone Roses stole most of their music and art work from other artists...
  16. Different players in different positions, don't think there is any straight forward comparison. When O'Brien first arrived he was terrible but when he left I thought he was a great player. Probably the single biggest improvement in a player I've seen at Fir Park for a long while (Brian Martin didn't have a great start as I remember). I'd have him back any day and I'd pick him over Humphrey every time.
  17. The reason for signing youngish keepers that want to take there career onto the next level is to sell them but we've not made any money out of Ruddy or Randolph. Really, we just need a good goalkeeper. Doesn't matter what age he is or where he wants his career to go.
  18. Only problem with that is Formula One is an internaionally premier sporting brand. They can squeeze those sort of concessions out of broadcasters. Currently Sky can say to Scottish football "take it or leave it".
  19. Surely McFadden goes to the Ojamaa position and Higginbotham comes in?
  20. This will be the last chance for many people to see a team that has done superbly this season and for several seasons before hand. It could well be a return to reality next season depending on what happens during the summer so get out there and say thank you to one of the better Motherwell teams you are likely to see.
  21. Not so good. I saw Lee Hollis and Bob McHugh in town last night all dressed up but I didn't know it was the awards.
  22. Higdon has now got 26 league goals, joint second highest ever season tally from a non Old Firm striker in the Premier League era, along side John Robertson. Tommy Coyne's 33 goal record will probably never be beat you suspect...
  23. 20 years old, 43 goals in 53 matches.
  24. You don't have to go that far back for pumpings off Ayr! The first season I started going regularly (86/87) we won 1 of our first 14 home matches. You didn't even think about winning, you went home ecstatic if you saw a Motherwell goal!
  25. This. We had Dykstra in goal rather than Woods. Phil O'Donnell was in the side also. We played much better than season before and if I remember correctly actually won more matches and finished much closer to the eventual Champions. The 90's team was far superior defensively. I'd pick the entire back line over anyone we have now with the exception of Randolph. Randolph Shannon Martin McCart McKinnon It's difficult to compare both sides in midfield because they played different formations. Lambert would be straight in. Superb player. I'd pick Phil O'Donnnell over anyone in the current side as well but if we are restricting it to the 94-95 side it would be close between Billy Davies and Nicky Law. So I'd put Nicky Law on the left and play Davies in the middle and have McFadden on the right. If we needed a bit more steel in the midfield I'd probably replace Davies with Lasley. Lasley and Dolan were very similar players but I think Lasley has been good in a Motherwell shirt longer than Dolan was so he deserves the nod. McFadden Lambert Davies Law Tommy Coyne is the stand out striker we've had in my time and is a no brainer. He had a great partnership with Arnott and although Arnott wasn't ever a prolific striker (except against the OF!) he caused defenders all sorts of trouble and chipped in as well. So despite Higdon having a superb season I'd go for the nineties pairing there. Coyne Arnott
