If you take our last three first pick DMs which I would say are McHugh, Gorrin and Donnelly you'll notice only one of them was an actually midfielder by trade and I know which order I'd rate them in. Sometimes football ain't rocket science. It's a defensive MIDFIELDER. Not a defender IN midfield.

Kelly is the only player of quality we have right now. We concede far too many goals though. I agree you should defend with more than defenders and you have to look at the whole team when we aren't in possession. I've not done an analysis of every goal we've lost this season but certainly the manager should be doing it and we need to look into it, identify the problems and solve them. We will go absolutely nowhere if we can't keep clean sheets against fairly modest opposition.

We've conceded against Airdrie, Queen of the South, Hibs, St Johnstone and Dundee. Our only clean sheets were against Queens Park and Annan. Pretty clear where the major problem is.

The 'blend' of the midfield isn't right so I'd hold off on criticising individual players at this point. We definitely need a few in that are 'different types'. Ultimately you are probably only going to play 1 of Crawford, Donnelly, Maguire in our current formation.

Decent away point against a team you'd 'expect' to finish above us. We definitely need to continue to look for better quality players though.

Almost as if a team that's won more cups in the last year than we have in the last 70 years and who can go toe to toe with Euro heavy weights are a bit better than us.
