The art of raising our game against superior opposition seems to have been lost at Motherwell in recent years. We are incredibly consistent at playing well against teams of a similar level which is great but when it comes to playing Celtic, Rangers or a half decent Eiropean team, we seem almost content to get in and out the stadium with a respectable defeat. Yes we were playing a Champions League qualifier which we could never have imagined but having got there, I don't think we came close to throwing absolutely everything at it over the course of two legs. To get some perspective, it will be interesting to see how Dundee Utd perform in Moscow. On the bright side we appear to have unearthed another centre half with a bit of potential.

The chat about the heat has pretty much ended any sense of optimism I had last week. I naively thought it might cool down in the evening. McCalls comment suggest Daley will start. I'd be going with Hetherington or Carswell as an extra man in midfield and asking Murphy and Ojamaa to support from wide.

I seen an advert in the Wishaw Press with a target of 5000. I just had a glance at it but I think it indicated that we were currently at 3500ish and last years total was around 4000. I guess these numbers include the free kid season tickets, many of which don't get used...

I thought Murphy was frustratingly predictable last night but he carried a threat. Will always be a centre forward for me. Ojamaa was relatively quiet but if anyone was going to create a goal, it was likely to be him. With regards accepting any offer just now for Murphy, will we not be entitled to compensation if he walks away next summer? I'm not sure what the age cut-off is, he's 23 this month, but if we are entitled to compensation it's worthwhile noting that Aberdeen got £400k for Maguire.

Same old European tale, even in the manner we lost the first goal. We had them rattled in the 2nd half but it was always likely we would lose one of the break. Players done us proud but we were just a couple short of what was required, as you would expect going into a CL tie. Lasley was awesome, Fir Park was rocking at times. Hopefully we can give them a wee fright in Athens and have ourselves well prepared for the Europa.
