  1. Phsychologists would have a field day on here as well as in the ground.

wha's like us? dam few an' their a' mad! :woop:

As well as probably being bullied earlier in life - they're probably wife or kid beaters at present.

There must be hundreds of Wife's and wean's running about with black eyes if this is true.

I've got a mate who pays regularly at the gate - recently told me he won't be back to where I sit in the East as him and his boy don't want to sit amongst the crap that goes on.

Yer seat must be in the centre section of the stand as its where I've heard the worst shit coming out of some people's mouth's. I remember watching the first game of the season from there about 4 years ago and within 20 mins. the guy behind had given abuse to about 6 players, this prompted my brother to stand up, turn to the guy and tell him to shut his mouth and start supporting the team! - my brother was that mad I thought he was going to get lifted and still goes on about the "mouthy git"

  2. Totally confused by this why the fuck would Motherwell be pursuing recovering the debt if Boyle bought it from them. Answers on a postcard please!!!!!

As it was a Motherwell director that is quoted in the original article and it is described as

    the club's court victory
then I take it that it was Motherwell who sued and having won, the money must have went into motherwells bank account.
  3. Naw, because International football and club football differ.

Club football is a job and you get paid to do it, International football is an honour in which you are selected in a squad of the best football players from your country to represent the whole nation, granted you get some sort of payment but thats not what its about. Your club is a choice (and you have made the right one  ), while your country shouldn't be.

If Jim O'Brien wasnt a football player I bet you he'd be one of those cretins that follow Cellic draped in the tri-colour of Ireland singing songs about potatoes and the 'old country', thats why I struggle to take to him.

Would you say and feel the same if it was someone who would supported rangers and sang their bile? or is your problem that you are a bigot?

  4. It's to easy to say that the wages are the single most defining factor in a contract.

Look at kaka for most that would've been a no brainer half a mill a week plus appearance money bonuses the lot!!!

But his heart is with milan.

Si has roots in coatbridge that where his fiance is from and he loved it at motherwell and with the best will in the world norwich are going nowhere.

At least with motherwell there is an outside chance of european football if we can keep this team together and if you can perform on that stage then a real big money move could come.

OK rab, you've got me convinced - sign him up.

  5. I know a lot of motherwell fans who would love to see simon lappin back at fp.

Were any of you aware that his contract ends with norwich in the summer?

I was speaking to him last night and he loved his time at fir park and would've loved to join but norwich wanted a fee.

With glenn roeders having left the new manager has spoke to si and he's going to give him his chance, but if mcghee's reading this a wee pre contract for si must be worth considering.

Would be worth a try but I think his wages might be a problem.

  6. We've spent nothing on transfer fees, but it still costs a lot of money to run a football club.

Yes it does cost a lot of money to run a club but my point is that last year we finished 3rd, which I assume is higher than we budgeted for. This would give us a surplus at the start of the season. Now add JP's transfer fee, the money from Everton selling on McFadden, what little we got for McCormack and the Euro money (TV and gate money minus the cost of the away trip)and budget to finish in the top six. This is what I would expect to be used to run the club this season without going into the red. That is unless the cost of running Fir Park is so high that it eats up all this cash - in which case the sooner we move the better as we ain't going to manage to finish 3rd or 4th or win a cup every year!

  7. Thought provoking stuff,

"Many football clubs rely on philanthropic support, .........Yet, their financial support for their chosen club does not buy them a lifetime guarantee of immunity from criticism or a place in the hearts of the beneficiaries, the supporters, in perpetuity. Perhaps they understand this when they get involved but I suspect that they would sometimes expect to be cut a bit of slack." - got to agree with this statement, we would be in a worse state if we didn't have JB's backing.

"There will be a shortfall in our income this year unless we finish top four or win the Scottish Cup and that has ongoing implications." - can't get my head round this part, we've spent nothing over the last 6 month's, so whats happened to the money we made for finishing 3rd last season?

"In Scotland, we must protect our futures by acting now where we have to. As supporters we should try to see the long-term strategy as well as demanding short term success." - Who's been reading this site then? Ye better all watch what your saying :D

  8. .......... if we loose that one even McGhee admits that we have to give up on dillusions of grandeur this season

I for one will never give up my dillusions of grandeur and still can't understand why Kaka is even thinking of signing for any other club - the boy must be soft in the head!

  9. I can see what you are saying but its quite harsh to call them journeymen. Given we've won little domestic trophies, the achievements of those who won these trophies earns them the right to become legends. Becoming a legend is something our first team should hope to become. I bet Shaun fagan and Marc Fitzpatrick hope to have won a similar amount of medals as Ian Angus and Iain Ferguson.

100% correct mate, the '91 team are all legends!

  10. .......Went to falkirk no that long back, they have a club superstore right in the heart of their town. Why have we never done anything like this? Its amazin what advertising does to people, and if youve got a club shop staring people in the face, its a great way to sell your product. Not just strips and scarves but for advertising promotional offers, special admission prices, season tickets......

Did there not used to be a club store on brandon parade many (many) years ago but it got closed down because it wasn't making money?

  11. ..............as I see my town die through negligence of a council which is supposed to look after the interests of all it's citizens.

Did you have this same civic sense of right and wrong as you watched money being poured into Motherwell in the early 70's (new civic centre, new town centre and new road layout) at the expence of Wishaw, Carluke, Shotts etc?

  12. Slightly off topic but....

........ everybody knows that its taken the powers that be a criminal amount of time to get going (i mentioned in my earlier post that South Lanarkshire and West Lothian on either side have NLC trailing in their wake).......

Got to agree with you regarding the "criminal amount of time to get going" but if my understanding of things are correct then two things contributed to this more than inept councillers or council (although I'm not saying they are entirly blameless).

    1. When the 'Craig closed and the land was made available for redevelopment, where as SLC and WLC were developing on farming land, NLC were looking at having to decontaminate the 'craig - something which I believe is still ongoing. This process put us a few years behind the other councils.

    2. South lanarkshire council have tried to block most of the proposed uses of the ravenscraig site and have make NLC jump through hoops to get where they are as they tried to protect both Hamilton and EK from people and business locating at ravenscraig.

Over the years I've heard many different ideas for the redevelopment of Ravenscraig, including a technology park and campus for both Glasgow and St Andrews Universities - none of which have came to much.

We now appear to be at a point where building work is starting and the one thing that I believe the council should insist on no matter who builds what, is that the developers must use local labour, giving the people of the area the chance of employment first.

  13. I really hope that the wellboys are looking for more than just to stand up because I think they will just be hit will rules and regulations as to why they are not allowed to stand. Can any of you see the police tearing up procedures?

What would happen if at the next Rangers or Celtic game all of the South stand stood and when told to sit down they pointed at the East stand and said "but they're standing so go f*ck youselfs".

Personally I'd like to see a standing area reinstated at Fir Park but where?

The only two options I can see are:

In front of the Main stand - can't see either the Wellboys or the Club liking this option.

Where the Wellboys "sit" at the moment - but how can this be done without restricting the view of others further along in the East stand?

  14. There are two things that I think must make Mark McGhee feel a bit aggrieved at the moment. Firstly he is still getting criticised for the Hearts situation in the summer. In actual fact MM showed a degree of loyalty to the club which I think is almost unprecedented in modern times. Tommy McLean would have been at Hearts just now had it been him. Terry Butcher would be at Hearts just now had it been him. It is a minor miracle that MM did not take the Hearts job and I for one feel that he made a mistake by not taking it. At that time MM let his heart rule his head and has had nothing but stick for it ever since.

Secondly the attendance at FP this season has been shocking. As a rough (not quoting exact figures) idea, Aberdeen had approx 16000 at their home game against Hearts the other day. Going by current attendance MWell would have to play 4 times to match that figure, and yet there is an assumption (by some)that MWell should be sitting third in the SPL. It just does not add up. Some First Division teams like Dunfermline are getting close to Wells attendance figures at the moment.

That MM has defended himself recently is only natural and right. I still think he is the best manager in the SPL and we need to get behind him or we will most certainly loose him. Actually I am sure it is already too late because I am sure he his desperate to leave given the way he has been treated.

got to agree with you on the points you make and although it is correct that MM will (probably) jump at the next decent job that he is offered, while he is here i think that both he and the team should be backed to get us out of the position we are in and back up the table to a position where I believe they are more than able to achieve (given their combined talents) - namely in the top six.

As I've said before, heres to a better second half of the season.

    'mon the 'well!

  15. Thought he had a decent game considering it was his first start. The thing that annoyed me most was that he tends to set off on a run and then cuts back before a pass could be made to him. It must have been frustrating for the other players not being sure whether to play a long pass and hope he kept running or wait for him to cut back.

One things for sure, he can only improve during the second half of the season.

    All the best Jim.

  16. Voted for Paul Quinn, played well in midfield and also got back to cover the defence - I'd be happy to see him play in midfield and keep Saunders at RB.

PS McGarry must be playing well training to get picked - just wish he'd do it on a Saturday!
