  1. I still think that Clarky has a long way to go to be at the same level as Faddy, Roscoe and even Pearson but as a man, professional and as a club servant he has been first class. It is rare to get players these days you can truely call your own and he will be missed.

I am sad to see him go for emotional reasons and it seems like the end of an era in many respects for the club.

All the best. Will look out for Bristol City scores from now on. Make Phil proud.

  2. I see Aberdeen are now saying they might not be able to afford Hughes and are hoping he chooses them based on 'footballing reasons'.

Had a chuckle at that. Shows McGhee's confidence (arrogance?) when he thinks that Hughes will take a pay cut and move his family North just to have the pleasure of McGhee as his boss.

What a boost it would be if we could keep Stephen Hughes. In terms of physicological advantage it would be a big one.

  3. Thanks for that. Will be interesting to see a few County shirts at Wells games. How about LLanelli for starters?

Interesting that you along with a few others have mentioned that he may need time to get things going his way. I hope my fellow Well fans give him that time if the season does not start particularly well. Don't think we are any worse than others football fans but we are not much better either.

I'm sure he is going to be great for us. It will be fantastic if we have a manager that we can really get behind. Our last manager, although he did well at Firpark never really had the best of relationship with the fans.

  4. I don't know why some of you find it annoying.

I think it will be hilarious if McGhee misses out on him and Hughes.

You got the impression when McGhee got the Aberdeen job that he was very confident of getting Hughes. Maybe the players did not think as highly of McGhee as he obviously thinks they did. I know there are other factors but I think if Hughes really wanted to play under McGhee he would have gone to the Dons.

On Klimpl, I thought he was hugely overrated. He had a positive impact in our team because the team was a bit lightweight and he was not scared to put a foot in, but he looked like a potential train wreck most of the time. He (along with Quinn) almost single handedly seemed to be trying their best to prevent our qualification for the Fair Play Euro place.

If you have decent creative players around him (like Stephen Hughes) then there is a place for him to break up attacks but if you are looking for a creative player look elsewhere. He did not look like a defender to me either.

Anybody else feel that it seems a long time ago since McGhee left?

  5. Day after day we have had updates on how the pitch refurbishment is coming along - the grass is germinating, the covers are coming off, the grass has grown 0.5mm overnight, it'll soon be getting its first cut, blah, blah, blah, blah, etc.

Talk about bleeding ridiculous!!!! Just who is all this shite for? The SPL hierearchy - so as to be able to prove that we really did do the job this time!!

Oh and by the way we are flogging every player that we have that anyone with a bob or two is interested in buying - oh and we won't be too hard to deal with as any offer will be considered. Also we don't have a manager yet. But season tickets are flying out the door!!

What a comedy turn this club is turning into. Boyle out and pretty damn quickly before he sells the f*ucking grass. <_<

Don't agree. I think our Chairman is actually going through a purple patch at the moment. Listening to the fans regarding Davie Cooper stand, not letting Aberdeen bully us over MM and appointing Jim Gannon. We may be one of the few SPL clubs that actually have little to worry about financially. That all sounds good to me.

To top it off we have a brand new playing surface. I would say all is well. Just shows it is all about opnions.

  6. I'd be a bit concerned about a clause like that. I mean when an offer comes in who knows what the manager might be thinking, extension to his house, a second holiday, new car....

A set in stone wage and bonus structure seems the way to go.

Or it could be seen as an incentive to bring on young players, or any player for that matter. Understand your concern however.

  7. he might not take the job, he's currently up at dalziel park watching us getting gubbed by rhyll. it was 3 - 0 when i left. bit apprehensive about thursday now.

spoke to gannon briefly before the game, he said he has targets identified and that he knows the squad needs strengthened. seems like a sound guy.

What 3-0 !!! Sack the Manager!! Never liked the guy. Gannon must go.

  8. Really excited by this. I just have a good feeling about it. He seems like a guy that players want to play for.

It appears just by what as been reported that he may not have been the favourite to get the job at the start of the interview proccess but he has impressed to such an extent that he has jumped to the top of the list. He must therefore be articulate, with a clear idea of how to take a Football Club forward. It's all very well for people to have a preference for other names but JB has been the man who has taken the time to really get to know the thoughts of these guys.

Comments about Stockport's excellent disciplinary record, style of football etc all sounds good (dare I say McGhee like) I just have a feeling that as fans we may be able to buy into the Gannon revolution more than we ever could with McGhee.

It would be fantastic if he could persuade Stephen Hughes to stay. Who knows Brian McLean could still re appear on the squad list. Suddenly things seem brighter again.

  9. If Jim Gannon is our new man then I am delighted. I have no particular reason for saying this but it just seems to fit.

He has beaten of strong competition and Stockport County fans speak very highly of him. It really had to be someone who is keen to bring on the young players and not rely on money to spend.

I think he is going to galvanise the club and bring back the bond between team and fans that was missing a bit under MM.

Sign up Stephen Hughes again, add a couple of new players and we are laughing.

    Motherwell F.C. Giant Killers.

    C'mon the Well!!!

  10. My point exactly! Many were seduced by the sexy talk of outside income keeping the club going. Load of pish from the outset. Heard it here as well, how we should incorporate things like that into plans for a new stadium, like we've hunners o' tourists n businessmen on expenses jaunts coming tae Motherwell. Home to roost for airy fairy nonsense ideas.

I think we are in a good position. The money that is being quoted for Quinn, Clarkson etc is good money and should be taken.

I am sure than JB has realised that a good manager can make a big difference to the club. Average players like Clarkson and Quinn have developed into better players because of the good management of MM. He needs to get this management appointment right and the rest will sort itself out.

I believe that Clarkson and Quinn are replaceable. I also think that more emphasis will be put on some of the younger players to now step up and be counted. I think that a key consideration in JB's appointment proccess will be who can best bring on players without relying upon spending money.

So here is a wild guess at what will happen: New manager appointed, Clarkson, Quinn and maybe Reynolds sold for decent tranfer fees, McLean and Hughes sign again on improved deals, the new man brings in a couple of his tried and trusted players and guys like Murphy, Saunders Sloan etc are asked to step up to the plate.

  11. I have only dipped in and out this thread and missed a lot so sorry if it's been discussed but heres a question - if we don't have someone in charge by Thursday, who will manage the team?

I know that's not likely to be an issue but hypothetically speaking does the baton automatically get passed to anyone? Would it be Craggs or one of the youth coaches?

Think it will be Craggs mate and there has been some talk of Gordon Young the Youth Coach helping out.

Don't think it will come to that. I think we will have our new man by then.

  12. You'v fecked that up a bit there mate :whistling:

If Llanelli decide to be wee schoolboys then they can shove it up their arse, i'm not giving them a penny. If they also go ahead with this i hope we pump them about 20 nil and they go bust.

I read in the Daily Mail today that it was Motherwell that objected to the bigger stadium. Would seem strange right enough.

  13. Guys,

Leeann, Stewart and in-directly, John all read the forums every day and we constantly discuss what is being said and people's opinions on certain things.

Whilst you need to take this, and places like it, with a large dose of salt it's great for gathering general feeling and this has been the case for some time now...

    'Flow

Interesting post Flow, thanks. Given your role within the club it must be difficult at times for you to not respond to posts on here.

Personally I have been very impressed by the way the club and JB have handled things over the last few weeks. While it is frustrating as a fan to hear little from the club in these situations it is absolutely the way it should be. There are some others in the Football business who could learn a few lessons.

    In JB we trust!!

  14. 'I spoke to [Motherwell chairman] John Boyle before Mark McGhee got the job and before I took the Leeds job. It was an interesting conversation, but I have not heard anything from John.'

That says it all, unless Gary's not telling us the truth.

  15. For me, Sanchez or Staunton can get to fuck. I'd like to see Gary Mac being given a fair crack at the whip.

Second hand info I'm afraid but apparantly Sanchez was being shown round Dalziel Park this afternoon. Tell's us nothing except that he is still in the frame.

  16. The Sunday Post reports that Sandy Clark looks likely to be our new gaffer.

That would be hugely disappointing. I can't see it to be honest, unless we are well and truely skint.

  17. I see Colin Calderwood has got a mention in the Sun. :(

So going by that article we could know our Euro opponents and new manager on Monday (if JB makes a decision over the weekend). Exciting times.

I am happy with the situation. I am confident that JB will be good at putting potential managers through their paces at interview. To have some competition for the job is a good thing and of the names mentioned one of them I am sure would make a good Well manager. Lets hope JB picks the right one.

  18. we've just had a phonecall at the house from someone (who definitely doesn't post on here) with good contacts inside fir park saying it's going to be staunton.

i remain sceptical but i wouldn't rule it out.

But why? You can build a case for Luc, McCallister, Sanchez etc but Staunton's record is out and out rotten.

Sorry Trafficlight. You just got in there before me!

  19. I don't care if this is the usual pile of horses**t that people come away with at these times. It's been really quiet on here this afternoon so good on you for livening things up a bit.

Only thing I would say is that Flow said yesterday that interviews would not be held at FirPark.

  20. That's the point, no-one has posted any hard and fast evidence as to Luc's credentials for the Motherwell job. It all seems to be hearsay and other people's opinions. I don't care what Co Adriaanse thinks about him, I dont give a toss how he comes over in a newspaper interview, I care even less that he played for us. I want, and we damn well need, a manager with a breadth of experience in football. a I want someone who can point to a track record as manager, not someone with letters of recommendation for his work with the youths, no matter who signed them. We are a club in turmoil, McGhee wants to take Klimpl and Hughes to Aberdeen, Smith is on his way elsewhere, Hearts are eyeing up McLean, Cardiff are looking to sell McCormack and replace him with Clarkson, that's half our team.

We don't need to be giving some ex-players their first shot at the big time or a chance to resurrect their careers, we need a strong, capable, and experienced manager to get this team off it's knees.

Good point's Lip 69 but who is that man do you think with the budget we have?
