  1. McGhee had a wee bit in the Sunday Post yesterday talking about different training techniques and mentioned Websters name. Apparently he is the best wrestler at training. Good to know eh.

His name has floated around for a while so hopefully that means he's a worthwhile signing if we get him.

  2. I agree with posts above, Klimpl and Smith on long term deals and bring Lappin back. All depends on how much of the reported £400,000 McGhee recieves to add to the squad.

Considering we couldn't afford a £50,000 player a wee while ago it will be interesting to see what he does with the money should he get a decent chunk.

  3. Yea, but in the same breath, boo's rang round the ground when we absolutely destroyed Dundee United at the start of this season but could only manage a 1-1 draw!

    'Flow

No doubt that's down to the shift in expecations from last season. One good season seems to have gone to some folks heads.

  4. Can some of the older members tell me whether it always like this? The reason I ask is because I'm wondering how much ticket prices affect attitudes now. A lot of expectation is placed on the players when people are shelling out a good chunk of their weekly wages and in fairness to the Motherwell support it's not neccessarily a win that we expect, just for the players to give it a damn good go. I think the standing ovation at the end of the 1-0 defeat to killie at the start of last season is testament to that.

I went to my first 'well game in 1995 and back then I didn't really notice the crowd as I was just a wee lad. It's only recently I've noticed how attitudes differ when it comes to appropriate ways to 'support' the team. I use the term loosely as I think a good chunk of the crowd go in thinking "I've paid my £22, now do your part Motherwell". That's an attitude that I find hard to argue against as you rarely get £22 worth of entertainment in any SPL game.

Maybe the crowd would relax a little if supporting the team wasn't such a financial commitment?

    Just a thought.

  5. I've thought many a time over the 5 or 6 months that if McGhee or any of the players decide to renew their contracts at fir park it certainly isn't going to be because of the fans.

That said, I'm not convinced there are more genuine arseholes in the crowd than at any other club, it's just that most fans sit in silence unless we are pumping a team. That leaves plenty of silence for minority to fill with abuse. Of course the majority of fans seem to have gotten into the habit of grumbling at everything and booing the players off regardless of how hard fought the game may be.

    Absolutely mental.

  6. Been trying to understand the rules on this one and understand it that the top 3 countries in this years UEFA fair play award all are certain of an additional slot in the new Europa league. But, and this is where the confusion starts, only matches in UFEA competitions actually count and as Scotland have no teams left in Europe and our Internationals are in a FIFA competition - how can we score any more points???

We can't score any more points but I'm sure other countries teams can still lose points. Not sure how it's calculated but I think it's an some kind of average (per game?) rather than a total point system.

  7. Got to agree with what's been said in the posts above. The team worked hard and played well in long spells today only to round off a move with a daft mistake or shite cross. Should have won by 3 or 4 but ach well, another day and we would have finished the lot.

Falkirk were dirty dirty *banned word* today, I think the stretcher was on the park 3 times in the second half for a Motherwell player. Hopefully TV highlights won't skim over this fact as it was shocking.

  8. But do they really play good football? Many folk, especially in the media say this. Any time I've seen them in recent times though they haven't exactly turned on the silky soccer. All too often they've relied on the long ball to man mountain Michael Higdon.

Against us in their recent 1-0 victory at Falkirk they were pretty dull and uninspiring.

Still maybe I've undersold them and they'll turn on the style on Saturday.

I think that's part of their problem, they are inconsistant and constantly go from one extreme to the other. I have only seen full matches once or twice this season and I agree with you, they have been pretty uninspiring but seen plenty of highlights and they are capable of putting together outstanding passages of play by the looks of it.

One goal stuck out a mile and I canny mind who it was against, might have been hibs in november but they patiently strung together about 20 odd one touch passes before scoring. Their first game of the season against Rangers sticks in my memory too, they were fantastic that day.

I'm looking forward to Saturday regardless of how they play, if they are pish we'll hump them and if they are on form then it'll be an outstanding game.

Both situations assuming we pick up where we left off against Dundee United of course!

  9. Falkirk are a weird team due to the fact they always give teams a tougher game than their league position indicates. Massive under-achievers when you consider how good the football they frequently play is.

As for predictions- after Saturday I think it's an absolute shot in the dark. We seem to have gotten ourselves out of that massive black hole we were in last month however the fear is still there. Confidence will be running high and the belief is back by the looks of things so I reckon we'll put 2 or 3 past them. 3-1 Motherwell.

  10. What's all this "we need to win 8 of the next 11" and "50 or 52 points is probably what's needed" pish? What the hell happened to one-game-at-a-time manager-speak? This is making me sick as a parrot, frankly.

Eh? Where did that torrent of abuse come from? Geez a reasoned assessment of his comments and folk might be able to understand yer point.

In the same context, Buzz is not exactly showing us a great deal of loyalty himself.

Remember, Buzz was apparently the lowest paid keeper in the SPL last year and as far as I know still is. If that's true then he's shown a great deal of loyalty to the club by staying on this season after more than proving his worth last year.

  11. While I fully appreciate there are only 7 days in a week, etc; if a game has to be cancelled because the pitch, which is North of Aberdeen, was frozen on a Saturday afternoon in January, it doesn't take too much of a stretch of the imagination to guess it just might also be frozen on a Wednesday night in January and then the following fucking Monday. Instead of rigidly sticking to the rules process, could someone at the SFA not show a bit of forward thinking and…

    Haud oan…

    SFA…

    Forward thinking…

    Right, I see noo.

I understand yer point but what's the solution then?

They'd get slated for assuming the pitch will be frozen. An automatic move to Fir Park isn't really in the spirit of the game.

I guess this is another advert for summer football though.

  12. Nice one. I'm not actually a season ticket holder, just trying to scrounge the spare from my mate. He hasn't recieved the letter, didn't know about the ticket offer till I mentioned it tonight.

Is it definately Falkirk or Hamilton? Not Falkirk and Hamilton? I take it they all need voucher H?

  13. Auntie Beeb has decreed it a shock victory for Motherwell at Tannadice! :wallbash:

Considering all the mental statistics that went along with the game we canny argue with that to be honest.

Utter delighted anyway. Good to see midefielders getting goals and having someone who isny scared to have a go from outside the box. Exactly what we need! Wednesday will be interesting but cannot wait till Saturday!
