  1. We've been doing it all season but haven't conceded from it so it's no a really a concern for me (yet). I think we've lost that bit of creativity lately which has meant it's seemed pretty pointless but I do believe there is a purpose to it. When all the guys are on their game then it makes sense to play it from the back, draw out the opposition and wait for the spaces to open up. It's just one of these things that the players who are integral to that haven't been great of late.

Edit: What yer suggestion instead dinho80? Humpin up the park won't work unless we've got Sutton on to win it, even at that we're limited with what he can do once he has the ball.

  2. Any reason Slane is being included (even as a maybe) in some folks line ups? Have I missed something? Last bit of news I heard was that things weren't exactly going to plan and he hadn't even started jogging again, nevermind returned to training or ready to play. That was quite a few weeks ago though. I'd be delighted if he was on the brink of return.

Edit: just read Andrew Westons Twitter page. He was back in training last week, good to hear! B-)

  3. I think Steelboys point is if a manager isnt under contract he can just walk away and we wouldnt get a penny for them ?

gannon clearly meant that a contract means very little if someone wants or doesnt want to be at a club. There are always ways out of them so in that sense they are worthless. Nothing more than that.

  4. Brilliant night! Well done to all those who organised it.

    two things of note...

He might have dodged the question about his contract but going on everything else he said it appears gannon is here to stay for a while.

McCart wants slane but from the way him and gannon were talking i get the impression thats not gonnay happen.

  5. How much more one sided can the press really be.

It's not the worse I've read however it does seemed leaning on Celtic's perspective of the game. Wouldn't surprise me at all if that had came from someone trying to be impartial on a Celtic fan page.

  6. i disagree by a monday morning anyone who is actually likely to read a match report will have read the sunday papers, seen the highlights and maybe even been at the game. the monday papers need to take a different angle to make it interesting to the readers than just describing the game.

controvesy sells. if there is an article about aiden mcgeady talking about his football skills i'll skip it but if it's aiden mcgeady and boruc boxing i'll definitely read it. the same applys here, most people would rather read this than some generic match report.

I agree with you there however it does become a problem when thing's are constantly getting taken out of context for the sake of spin and controversy? I'm not just talking about sport either, some journalists and editors should get jailed for the amount of pish they write about people.

I don't know the specifics of Gannons issues with them but for that reason alone I can't blame him at all for for wanting fuck all to do with the media.

  7. We're relying on loan players and youngsters against a good dundee united side so a draw under any circumstances is good enough for me.

The number of people who predicted a defeat is surely an indicator that most folk view them as a superior team just now so surely them losing a man made it a more even match up? Fair result.

  8. To be fair, Willie Miller has backed the referee today in the press stating that they (Aberdeen) were not aware of the rule being changed to prevent tops being lifted to display slogans on t-shirts, but that the referee was entirely correct to send him off.

Seriously? Is that a fifa ruling? Are they trying to drain the life out the game completely?

  9. Why not?

He seems to be hitting a bit of form with us and you'd assume he must be enjoying scoring goals and playing regularly, Everton fans will still think he's shit, and by the sounds of things he's not particularly rated at all down there by the management either.

I would be quite surprised if his loan deal wasn't extended to be honest, unless it was a money issue.

Spot on. I really canny see him wanting to move on any time soon, it seems that since joining us he's managed to get the two things he's been missing for a few years- confidence and consitancy. I think it would be a daft move for him if he wanted to go elsewhere just now. Only reason I can see him going anywhere is if Everton wanted him back, which would seem like a premature move if they really want an improved player back.

  10. Yeah, its the current trend among managers not to put players on the posts. They want all the players picking up a man rather than areas.

Yip, if the opposition are marked properly then there is nay need for defenders on the posts. It's a sensible compromise I reckon.

To the original poster.... I understand your frustration but you've got to admit we look a lot more solid and organised at corners than we have done for years. Every corner used to be heart in mouth time for us so Gannon must have done something right.

  11. Not much out there about him but found this about his trial at Ipswich..

The 18-year-old Senegal-born frontman, who is also set for a trial spell with Reading, has been playing his football with Icelandic club Fylkir.

Faye has made 19 appearances in the Icelandic Premier League, netting one goal. Last month he scored three goals for Iceland’s U19s in two friendlies against Scotland and recently also netted in a 3-2 European qualifier victory against Bulgaria.

    And from another later article

Keane says that Icelandic U19 international strike pair Pape Mamadou Faye and Ragnar Leosson have returned home after their spells with the club: “They’ve gone back, but we’re keeping an eye on them. Sometimes they come over on trial and you don’t make a decision after a few days. Maybe they’ll come back again."

  12. i think he's a good player and he deserves his place in the team at the moment. i just don't think it'll be that hard to replace an extremely attack minded winger who has scored one (deflected) goal in near enough 50 appearances and very rarely crosses the ball especially when we have paul slane ready to step up soon.

I do agree with what yer saying and can't really recollect him playing a massive part in goals from open play however I think those stupid tackles he draws have been very very important to us this season. At one point we were all wondering where the goals from open play were going to come from but it wasn't a major concern as we were scoring from corners, free kicks around the box and penalties. Bet Jim was responsible for winning a good portion of them.

I think were still trying to find ways to make our striking partnerships really work and once that clicks I think you'll see him contribute a lot more to goals in open play.

  13. Fraser - Fair point Joeboy that he's not been given time to prove himself. But I'd shunt him cos no matter how many times I see him, he's never going to be quality and he's not tall enough.

Don't you think he's of a good enough standard to come on for Ruddy if/when he's injured? We've not seen the other guy in action and he's obviously behind Fraser in the pecking order. That tells us Fraser is the better choice. I'm not sure we could do any better when it comes to subby keepers.
