The big man just beat me to it. A couple of miles up the road from FP in Cleland here, and there's a fair old snow blizzard. And two words popped into my head. Pitch inspection. Suppose it depends how long the snow stays on for. Is this to be our snowy cup run...?

SSN website was reporting that we have 2 in and there is 1 more possibilty but when i refreshed the page to post a link to here the storys been removed?
Given that it's now 7 o'clock, I'm assuming any attempt at a third signing has fallen by the wayside. S'ppose it must have been the guy Webster...

I like to think I'm Mr Negative but jeezo, some folk. We've actually signed a guy who has scored SPL goals before. I'm no fan of McGhee but as signings go, this close to the deadline, very decent...

Cannae beat a good Semi
Think I beat you to it in the January Transfer Thread...

Reports that St Midden are in for Simon Lappin
If he's just become available today then we don't have a chance as the menagement are on their way to Inverurie...

As the resident negative bastard on here, I'd have to say I actually think Sheridan will do alright. Could see him combining well with Clarkson. I guess he won't be eligible against Celtic, but I'm wondering about the Scottish Cup assuming we get through tonight? Available or not? Not bad signing. Would have preferred someone who would be available against all other SPL sides but he'll do...
EDIT German winger is called Semih Aydilek. I'll go first, will I? First time McLeish has given Motherwell supporters anything resembling a semi...

Listen, mibbe I'm wrong and we don't need another striker. I mean, Liverpool seem to only need one...

Its no happening is it?
Dismal.
Still an hour and a half to go. Maybe we're being very discrete. But, I reckon you're probably right. Dismal...

Well give us some suggestions? What players out there would come in and replace either Clarky, Sutton or Murphy (Within our budget)
I'm not a scout. I'm not looking for us to replace Clarkson or Sutton. But we do need someone who can step in should either of them get injured. Look at our form when Clarkson was out injured. Our goalscoring record at that time was horrendous. If we were to lose Clarkson for the season, and not have someone to partner Sutton, it would be very easy for us to slip into a relegation battle. Anyone who laughs this off, obviously can't remember as far back as November...

I think it's reasonable that if you've known for about 4-5 days (and it's been on the cards for a couple of weeks) your top scorer (and one of only three centre forwards at your club) was leaving, you should be able to come up with a couple of alternatives...

We have a good squad - in fact one of the better SPL squads - considering the strength on the bench.
Is that why the arse fell out of our form as soon as we had to do without Clarkson and Craigan? And a seriously understrength Killie did us over at Fir Park during that run?
-
Are you his PA? How do you know he hasn't phoned these clubs and they have said ok, and then the player has went "fuck no". Or they are is discussions right now?
No, but as I said he could have made these phone calls on Friday and heard "Fuck, no" then and moved on to other targets. If he's in discussions right now, we're cutting it fine. I know (rightly) I have a reputation as a McGhee basher on here. But he's giving me plenty of material right now. If we don't sign anyone today, questions have to be asked...
-
Fact is, McGhee did state that he had 2 or 3 clubs he could phone should Porter leave. it's been clear from Friday that Porter was leaving. And nothing appears to have been done. We might now go into the second half of the season with a weakened squad. A squad that even with Porter, struggled with a couple of key injuries. And who's to say it won't happen again...
-
Danny Welbeck.
In our dreams...

This squad needs at least three players able to challenge for a first team start. We needed them at the start of the season and with hours left of this window, we still need them.
While, I might agree with you, right now I'd settle for a third centre forward on our books by 5pm...
-
I think it is 5pm.
Correct...

Doesn't seem to be much happening.
Cardiff have made a bid for Fletcher tho. It will be sore day for Hibs fans if they lose Fletch & Jones.
Apparently Jones is staying, they've knocked back whatever Forest offered. I'm becoming a bit concerned about the lack of even a rumour down Fir Park way. Are we going to blame the snow/the Inverurie game for the lack of even a loan signing??
-
I thought we might be sniffing round Livingston for Dave Mackay and possibly the boy Henderson (?) if they're having problems paying wages. Obviously we need a centre forward and I don't know who they have in that position...
-
Still no rumours/news on the transfer front???
-
I wouldn't bother starting, Frazzle. THis game is going to get called off. The SFA would getb slaughtered if fans got stranded getting to a game...
-
Will the slow treacherous journey to Inverurie put the brakes on any transfer moves for us? Are we going to be left with two recognised centre forwards at the club (sorry Jamie Murphy fans)? There seem to be no rumours even doing the rounds. Maybe we're doing our business quietly this time having learned from the John Kennedy/Andy Webster fiascos? I hope so. The squad is very thin at the moment...

Nobody is asking us to climb Ben Nevis in the buff.
Goan, ye know ye want tae...

Because I don't rate Gary Teale. And we've quite enough right wingers I don't really rate at the moment. That's why I personally don't want Gary Teale at Fir Park. Just my opinion, mind...

I think we're now at the point where we all accept that Porter is leaving. I think most of us just want the deal, be it with Cardiff or Derby, done so we can get things moving in terms of finding a replacement and moving on. If Motherwell know 100% that Chris Porter is leaving for a fee of around £400,000 before Monday, then perhaps we can make our move now rather than wait to see where Chris Porter decides his future lies. This is not an attempt at a slight on Porter, this is a big decision for him. But we are at the point where the Motherwell board and Mark McGhee should now be focusing on the future. I'm sure they are, but we only have til 5 on Monday and I would imagine it will be very difficult to do any deals tomorrow. Let's not wait til the deal goes through as it sounds like McGhee is doing "Give us a call when Porter leaves...". Let's have someone lined up so when Porter cleans out his locker, there's a guy standing behind him waiting to put his stuff in it...

Careful, that kind of talk would have got you dog's abuse in the East Stand today. Because we've had a good year and a half under McGhee, you're not allowed to suggest he might have got something wrong...
