I hear what you're saying about Bair. However, I don't think the January window is the time for another project or gamble up front, particularly given we've been seriously struggling to win games. And anyway, all the names are rumours, and a rabbit may still be pulled out of the hat.

I don't disagree that January signings, you want them to hit the ground running. There's no preseason to try and show them what you're after and fine tune. This guy wouldn't be top of my shopping list. Also for the same reasons as Halliday, lack of match sharpness (although I don't know how often he's featured for St Mirren reserves).

But the Bair example (not to mention others who don't work out at one club but do at another - John Sutton at St Johnstone and Hearts?) means I'm not automatically reaching for "Awfirfuxake".

Sceptical, yes. Convinced he'll be a flop? No...

And again this is if we sign him...

  2. Have fans on here not learned the lesson of Theo Bair? Can we not wait and judge what someone does in claret and amber if they sign? Am I enthused by the name Nahmani? Not particularly but Kettlewell has managed to get a tune out of someone who scored one goal last season so I'm willing to trust he might see something in him...

First things first…. He plays with us to end of season.

True. But there is the issue with players coming to the end of their contract. If he's agreed a contract elsewhere with a guaranteed SPL wage, will that affect his commitment for the rest of the season? Pulling out of challenges?

think SK loves an injured player

As is well established, we're not the first pick for most players if they're looking for a club to join. So sometimes we gamble on a player that we think has slightly more quality even if they have an issue be it a patchy injury record, a couple of moves that haven't worked out, basically a player whose reputation has taken a knock. But it is a gamble and the club know this. In the last couple of years, with Moult and Obika, the gambles haven't paid off. So do you go for a slightly lower quality player who will always be available..?

Considering the clubs sniffing about him just now I'd think moving to a midtable English Championship side would be the last thing on his mind.

I'm assuming he'll move abroad. Having seen what it's done for Ferguson, Hickey and young English talent, he probably should. He probably should have done before moving to Celtic but hindsight is a wonderful thing...

I’ve heard from someone at the club that we are looking at four strikers, possibly only bringing in one, four guys are mulling  over options to see what is best deal. Our luck we will get left with the worst of the four. Is the Montgomery injury true, if so we have zero luck.

We'll bring in one in the next couple of days and one on Tuesday when the first one gets injured.. On a serious note, I think one striker isn't really enough. Obika has a hamstring tear so god knows when he'll be back. So it’s Bair and one other?

Rumours on injuries have been on the mark up until now. If it's 3 months, surely he'll be back to Parkhead and the loan cancelled.

Given he's played for us and Fleetwood this season, he can't play for anyone else. Might take the view he's as well staying here in case his recovery goes quicker than  expected and he's available for the playoffs...

Atleast it isn't callum elliot 😂,we were needing another option at right back, hopefully he's the type to offer an attacking threat going forward.

Aye. A mate sent me this name yesterday as someone we were going to be signing. When I saw the name, I nearly shit myself...

EDIT Although it's worth noting the guy has played zero football since June. Don't expect him to hit the ground running...

surely has to be Mugabi’s last game, guys a nervous wreck, absolute bomb scare every time he’s near the ball.

It was Butcher that cost us the goal today and elsewhere this season Casey has been no better than Mugabi. Am I saying Mugabi is good enough? No but based on this season, of all our defenders probably only McGinn is good enough...

Think we learned today that the first two names on the team sheet should be Davor and Miller in the middle of the park. Performances have improved since Davor was given a run and he will get better with Miller beside him.

This is my take as well. Those two combined really well today..

The good news is nobody had a clue who he was before he joined us, and there are likely more players like him we might be able to bring in.

This is the positive. Chances are there are very similar players in a load of the academies down south.  The fact that we've taken a player and he's done well enough to get interest at a higher level will hopefully be a selling point for other teams if we want their players on loan...

I largely agree with you Greg. However, I'd add a central defender, and another midfielder to your shopping list. We badly need pace in the central midfield and up front, a pacy wide man and a finisher.

What we'd like and what we realistically know we're going to get in terms of numbers is a different thing. I do not see us bringing in a central defender unless (and this is hugely unlikely) we move one on. With Blaney, Casey and Butcher to come back, it'll be seen as a waste of a wage. Are the central defenders we have good enough? That's a separate question?

I can see a midfielder coming in and maybe one forward, pacy or otherwise. We have to remember that Shaw was only brought in because of Biereth and Obika's injuries earlier in the season. The manager seemed happy to go with four strikers at the start of the season. Obika, Shaw, Bair and one other makes four. Again how long Obika stays fit is an entirely different question? Mark Ferrie returns having not played longer than 10 minutes for Stenhousemuir since Halloween. Like yourself, I'd like two forwards but will settle for one that can stay fit and make some kind of impact...
