  1. If Stuart McCall's comments in The Sun are representative of the clubs thinking it looks like we'll be voting in a Newco :-

McCall admits Rangers' loss has been Motherwell's gain and he sympathises. He added: "They're going through hell but it does not just have an impact on them — it has an impact on the whole of Scottish football.

"Without Rangers the league would be knackered.

"I know a lot of supporters are saying they should be liquidated and come back as a new club in division three.

"But that would be the end for Scottish football — there certainly wouldn't be any TV deals and the element of competition would vanish because Celtic would walk away with the SPL.

"Financially speaking, Rangers mean a lot to us because of the revenue that comes into the coffers when we play them. The SPL without Rangers is unthinkable and I'm sure lots of clubs would go to the wall without them."

Whats McCall playing at? Why even comment on it, he must know the feeling amongst his own support. Am I the only one who thinks there is an ongoing agenda within media/SPL to bombard fans of other clubs about a doomsday scenario for Scottish football with Rangers not in SPL. Over the last few weeks every fan is being buttered up by a manager/player/chairman from there club to accept Rangers going bust is the worst thing that could ever happen . I for one can see through it and are beginning to question why I should even bother with Professional football in Scotland !

  2. Laugh all you like.

As much as it pains me to say this I firmly believe that Stuart McCall is in the wrong job at the wrong time and the sooner we part company with him the better.

He does not inspire confidence in the team and does not appear to have any tactical nous. Not what is needed at Fir Park just now I'm afraid. We need someone who can grab that mediocre bunch by the scruffs of their necks and make them fight tooth and nail to make sure the club stay in the SPL. Sadly on the evidence so far, Stuart McCall is not that man.

I really hope your being sarcastic, last night was woeful, but to say he has to go is just plain daft

  3. aberdeen seemed a bit suprised by our formation. you can still see the weakness at their goal however, hateley has to push out because their is no midfield cover and hutchinson is left exposed.

billy reid was at that match and obviously decided rather than try and counter with width he'd block up the middle of the field and man mark murphy.

you've got to imagine that inverness, killie and dundee united will attempt to use their wingers against if we play that way. for the celtic game we should be lined up as we were in the semi.

Is Mark Murphy a new signing?

  4. Sorry Wellmaninwishaw I have to defend the club and say they are far from lazy.

Marketing is far more complicated than sticking a few posters up.

Leeann Dempster is really passionate about positioning Motherwell as a true community club. She made this very clear at the forum on Monday night. She will happily talk to you until the cows come home about what this involves (e.g. 100s of kids through the doors at Firpark each week on non-match days and working with disadvantaged groups) and the benefits to the long term future of the club (i.e. increased season ticket holders and government money).

    Yip totally agree

  5. With recent happenings in football I am ultra cynical of any statements from any boardroom and it may be just me but is this the start of the 'buttering' up project that we will be subjected to get us to come round to a 10 or 12 team league?

Motherwell Football Club today released the following update to supporters regarding the ongoing re-construction debate.

Speaking collectively, the Board at Motherwell FC said, “We want to take the opportunity to update Motherwell fans on the issue of league re-construction, following Monday’s meeting at the SPL.

“Firstly, we must emphasise that, despite what is being reported in the media, Motherwell Football Club has neither agreed to nor voted for any restructure proposal. Our position has been to participate fully in the debate and listen to the various arguments being put forward. We have made it clear that we are strongly in favour of change which makes for all of Scottish football.

    Open with a positive

“We are acutely aware of the strong media and fan support for a top league of 14. This has been discounted by a number of clubs due to lack of remaining funding for a second league and potential for a number of meaningless games following a split after 26 games. We do agree that proper funding for a second league is key to moving the game forward.

The SPL have totally dismissed our paying customers demands for a bigger league, and as a club we support the need for SPL2 and supporting relegated clubs financially so .....

We are therefore potentially faced with a stark choice – vote for the 10 and 12 league structure or vote to stay as we are. Our position has been consistent throughout the many months of discussions – we would prefer a larger top league but are willing to discuss and consider alternative structures favoured by other clubs.

The best we can do is a 12 team league and SPL2 :P

Turning to the specific proposal being discussed, we along with other clubs have continued to state that we are unhappy with certain aspects of what is being proposed.

“We are supportive of a number of the proposed changes, including an early July start date and winter break. As Neil Doncaster stated on Monday, he has been asked to further develop a number of areas and return to the clubs with a revised document. Part of this process is focusing on a proper financial safety net for relegated clubs.

“Once that document is received, the Board of Directors will fully consider the revised proposal and make a decision. This has been our position throughout many months of discussion and it did not change in any way during Monday’s meeting.

“Now that the overall position with the proposal is clearer, we are keen to engage fully with our fans and encourage full and frank discussion. Leeann Dempster has arranged, after requesting Supporters Trust assistance, an open fans forum for this coming Monday and I would encourage you to attend.

“Thank you for your continued support.”

    [End with some positives <_>

  6. we don't have to accept that money rules football, we can walk away.

It seems that things have came to a point, the game in Scotland is being laid bare. The Old firm might not bother a fkn jot, but clubs like ours should take care to at least listen.

They will harp on about loosing £1m a year, but us, the fans aren't prepared to pay the entrance fees they ask for what we see. An option that doens't appear to be on some clubs tables is to scale back & live within their means. maybe that means closing a stand, ditching a web site & playing players half of what they get now. If they are good enough they can move elsewhere....most of them are shite anyway.

Best post of the year:) agree 100%
