  1. Mchugh, frear, and McDonald were all quoted through the week as backing Robinson for the job. However, this happens at every club when there's a caretaker, and I'm sure there were similar overtures for black and Craigan in the last. Unfortunately it sometimes works and you get a malpas.

  2. I guess we'll see what Robinson thinks of some of the youth/fringe players now! At the moment the only definite absence is tait, and I assume Hammel will play since Robinson didn't mention him. Was McMillan not right back when we got horsed up there last time?

Will he push the injured guys to try and play? Or does he think McGuire or Ferguson can do a job? Does he stick Campbell at right back, for him to perform well and get the Hateley treatment? Does he shoe horn Hammel or chalmers at RB? Stick clay there?

Plenty of questions, including how long will I be able to last with the mixlr commentary, but I think the result is pretty much guaranteed now.

  3. One problem baraclough may have had is that there was a group of experienced players that could undermine new ideas. With lasley, hammell, McFadden, Pearson and McDonald all leaving in the summer it is a good opportunity for new ideas. Unfortunately we need to make sure we're still in the premier league before this happens.

  4. Yep, as unglamorous as it may sound, we need someone who knows the Scottish game and won't underestimate it like baraclough did. Our "leftfield" appointments have had mixed success at best, with McCall being the only success if you consider his as part of that category.

I hope we are coming round to maybe thinking that knowledge of our own game is more important than "contacts" down south.

  5. We've had some crackers of "applicants" over the last few years, going back to Gus Hiddink when we went with McLeish, then more recently Nobby Solano and now Ravanelli, and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

I think the explanation for these is that their agents just post their CVs to every open post, then fire a message to the relevant newspapers, mainly just to keep their guy's name out there.

  6. Don't really want moult to miss any games, but Aberdeen away is probably the best one for him to miss, rather than a game against our bottom six rivals. Heneghan missing the st j game could be hairy, when is McManus due back?

I think this game will suit bowman, and depending on the system there could be a Blyth sighting. I'm sure we will be going into this one fired up, but Aberdeen won't be taking it easy.

  7. I was expecting a few reports of prospective managers being in the stand, then trying to figure out what team he was there for. Going by the lack of substantive rumours I'm guessing we held off to see what today's result was before getting serious with the search.

  8. It's only lunchtime, so the whiskey will have to wait. but as shite as relegation would be we are in a position where the club's very existence isn't at stake, at least in the short term. We also aren't in a position where we are stuck with a bunch of expensive contracts, and still have saleable assets. So although it would hurt, I'm far more confident that we could bounce back than I was 2 years ago.

But, I think we'll stay up anyway.

  9. I'd agree that our u20s success will at least mean that we aren't tasked with signing a whole team for the championship if we end up there, and I think there's a decent amount of quality in there that we could challenge in the top half. I also agree that going down wouldn't be disastrous, but would still be a kick in the baws.

As said above, fighting to stay up, with occasional forays into the top 6 is pretty much our level, which is nothing new.
