We are going to be playing 4-5-1. We have Frear, Tanner, McLean (made of glass), Cadden (shouldn't be considered a forward) and Hastie who can play behind Fisher/Bowman.
We are extremely short of creative players.
It might free up a wage but any half decent player will want a signing on fee and probably a bigger wage so it'll still cost us to replace him.
He looked fat in the preseason photos. Hiding your chin with a beard is a bad look for a 21 year old footballer. He might respond to McCullochs managerial style though and Killie are giving young players a chance and playing the ball on the deck.
It's obviously easy to remember the last 30 seconds but the vast majority of what went before that was total dross (with maybe half a dozen exceptions). It's not just Albion Rovers, Celtic and Dundee United at home were as bad we've ever played and the week to week standard was awful.
I think that given the proportion of our recent signings who have turned out to be utter shite then there is a better than even chance it'll be with a vastly inferior player.
If we sell Moult then our attacking options go from poor to dreadful.
Given we don't seem to be in the market for any more creative players it seems unlikely the football will be any better than the dross already served up under Robinson last season.
Bowman is doing well just now because the vast majority of Scottish footballers have been boozing and eating shite on their time off and he has obviously being doing the 'herbal life' cycle.
Cadden is still at the age where he can improve a great deal. Hopefully with a good preseason and better luck with injuries he will make a big contribution this season. Whoever the fitness coach is should be making him his number one priority.
Pearson went from a struggling to pass or shoot to the Scotland team in about 12 months. We are never going to sign a sign real quality player so we have work with potential.
I doubt he will make the grade but Craigan is a good example of a defender without much ability who made a career. Bobo Balde as well.
Good luck to him.
I still think it's a bit daft having an assistant who wants the manager's job when the manager isn't exactly secure in his job.
I'm sure they'll make it work though.....
I wasn't meaning those players won't contribute.
I just think we need someone who is more of a play maker in midfield who can bring us up the park without relying on the long ball dross we saw in the run in. Frear definitely doesn't fit the bill, Cadden might eventually but hasn't shown it yet and Tanner seems like a final third player.
I was just going by this post.
If this is the case then season 2017/18 looks like it will be the same as 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 where the manager fails to bring in a creative midfielder and pays the price for it.
Given Robinson's style of football at Oldham and with us there is a question mark about his ability to get us playing football. An attacking midfielder should have been the first priority.
