  1. hughes was a class act and we'll miss him a lot. his form for the first few months of last season was fairly poor but he was supposedly playing through an injury and not training. no one can deny however that he put in some of the greatest midfield performances by a motherwell in many, many years and you'd probably need to go back to a young phil o'donnell to see performances that matched some of hughes. rangers home sept 07 hibs away in the league cup 07 aberdeen home nov 07 hearts away dec 07 dundee united home 07 hibs home 08 celtic away 08 hibs away 08 rangers home 08 st mirren away 09 ten of the best performances i've ever seen from a motherwell midfielder and it's disapointing that people can be so dismissive of someone who delivered so many highs in a motherwell shirt, the likes of which we'll be very fortunate to see again any time soon.
  2. i disagree. millwall got to the play off final and they were rank. teams like swindon, exter and carlise are piss poor. wolves romped the championship last season but apart from ebanks-blake, keogh and kightly i didn't see much difference between us and them in the friendly we played. there wasn't much of a difference between us and preston either and they made the play offs. imo the 'well team that finished third would be competing around the play offs in the championship and last season probably fighting relegation.
  3. i wouldn't say i'm overly worried but i'm a bit anxious. i'm willing to wait right up until the transfer window closes but i feel we definitely need two or three quality signings this window to remain competitive in the league. boyle opened the purse strings for mcghee when he came to the club and i believe he would do the same for gannon so hopefully he won't be shy in asking. if you do the sums the money must be there. the money for porter, mcghee, clarkson, quinn and the european prize money comes to nearly two million pounds. if we had signed any or all of these players last summer i'd have been delighted but right now is a different situation entirely. there's a bit of a feel good factor right now because of the new boss and the europa games but we've still got a long way to go before i'd say we're anywhere near the required standard.
  4. tommy coyne's hatrick is my favourite. 3 quality goals from my idol and i scored a penalty on the park at halftime. quality day.
  5. got to agree with ya beezer, we're going down a dodgy road here and while it might work out there's a good chance it won't. i'm willing to give all the guys a chance but i'll be worried if the transfer window closes and we've not brought in two or three players who we can be confident are spl standard. in an average summer i'd welcome this type of signing but right now with the squad being so weak we need to bring in quality, in my opinion we've only got 5 players who are definitely good enough at the moment and the rest either are unproven or have shown themselves to be only useful as bit part players. i'm a bit worried that gannon could turn out to be our paul le guen, who comes in totally underestimates the league and we'll be stuck with a load of players not up to scratch. from what i seen of league one and two last season a lot of it is very, very poor and kick and rush. bradford made us look like barcelona in the preseason friendly we played and i watched shrewsbury town in the playoffs and they were brutal. if gannon thinks that buiding a side equivalent to the one he had at stockport will be enough then we're in for a tough season.
  6. got to say i'm still pessimistic just now. quite concerned that gannon is going to underate the spl and bring in too many players who aren't up to it.

    Back The Boys....

away and play basketball ya diddy.

    Back The Boys....

aye if we need someone to put the nets up. just because he's tall doesn't mean he's going to be any good (in fact it's probably more likely he's a diddy)
  9. aye if your british, try doing that if your albanian or lebanon or from somewhere else shite and you'd be on the first plane to gitmo.
  10. forbes has a long way to go. it's one thing to do well against welsh part timers or albanian diddies, quite another to play in centre mid in the spl. all forbes has shown so far is that he has a wand of a left foot, nothing else.
  11. kinda. was going to say you were wrong but your not far off. the "joy division" were nazi's who were responsible for rounding up then best looking birds in the lebersarum and then pimping them out to the werhmarcht.
  12. maybe he reads the board and saw the pelters ross mccormack got for saying exactly that a year previously. weeyin - for the talent he's got lee mcculloch has achieved loads. full set of scottish medals, played multiple seasons in the premiership, played in the the carling cup and uefa cup finals and got 16 caps for scotland. and is also obviously loaded. not bad at all and he made a very similar move to the one buzz has just made.
  13. i wouldn't be too quick to critisce. he's leaving for the same league mcculloch and mcmillan left for and it turned out ok for them.
  14. does anyone else think this clown isn't actually albanian and is at the wind up?
  15. leann dempster said on here that they were staying in tirana. obviously wanting a guaranteed quality international hotel rather than chancing it in the sticks. i don't think it matters anyway. the rhyll town team came straight off an eight hour bus journey and pumped us 3-1.
  16. hammell cleared the ball into the middle of the park from the shy. their fullback ran off sutton, picked up the clearance and skelped it in, hardly hammell's fault.
  17. it is not a bit daft moaning about a match that we all just watched live not being on tv? it was hardly great entertainment for the neutral and i'm sure everyone who wanted to see it saw it.
  18. i'm not ashamed of anything. the actions of a couple of scumbags have nothing to do with me. stuff like this should be highlighted to root out the lowlifes.
  19. i know but it never fails to amaze. in my house 3 of us watched a young and inexperienced motherwell dominate a game in difficult conditions and lose unluckily. at the final whistle the verdict was the lads done well, roll on next thursday. fuck knows what some of the other posters were watching. "embarassing" wtf?

    Can We Do It?

flamutari were brutal and we should be well capable of beating them. we totally dominated possesion in the ifrst half and should be able to do so again next week. it's really up to whether sutton, mcgarry and o'brien (who played well today) can actually creat something. my prediciton 3-1 to the well.
  21. can't see why some people are being so negative. we played ok and dominated most of the game, we just lacked a cutting edge. we should be capable of getting through next week. i also don't understand the problem with hammell's distribution. he hit's a lot of long balls but that's part of the game, the problem is we don't have anyone capable of winning them just now.
  22. we looked by far the better team but we had no cutting edge. two forwards must be the top priority beyond everything else.
  23. fairplay to scott. the poster who seemed to take most offence to the story was on here last friday trying to suggest that it probably wasn't motherwell fans who commited the assualt. i tihink he's got a few deep seated issues about the 'image of our support' and the rest of them are just clowns ready to be annoyed at anything.
  24. definitley sutton with the header. agree with jay, we look comfortable apart from fraser. i'd happily take a nothing each and be confident of beating them at the excellsior. can't really see why forbes is getting so much praise. he looks the part when he's got a bit of time to pick a pass but he cost us the goal against llanelli with a poor touch and let them in this game for a shot in a similar way. he looks awkward under pressure and is totally one footed. the boy has potential but i wouldn't want to play him regularly in the spl just yet.
  25. cannae believe sutton missed that chance. looked like they came close from a couple of corners as well. uefa.com shows page on for saunders, anyone see why?
