  1. The best chance we have of winning the tie is telling them the return leg is being played at Fir Park :P

You are right (as always ;) ), that would be a good move, but unfortunately it's likely not going to happen....although...... :(

  2. :) We were outplayed by a very good team in in the Romanians and most 'Well fans knew we were in tough in this game. Thanks to all the Romanian's who have posted on this website and hopefully some will get to Motherwell to sample Scottish hospitality. Of course there is another leg to this game and we might have more chances, unfortunately we should have scored one goal away which would have made a huge difference.
  3. Those who are there already, have a great time and I know you will all be great ambassadors for MFC. Going to be a tough game for sure, but we fought from behind to get this far and who knows how far we might go, just a game at a time.

All the best to the team and the fans who are fortunate enough to have been able to make it to Romania.

    :lol::nod:<_<:woop:

  4. Texaco Cup nights at Fir park were fantastic, my fav being the 3-1 humbling of the might Tottenham Hotspur  Great crowd and 3 great goals from Heron, Watson and Donnelly <_<

Like the Goose, I don't recall games against Burnley or Everton. Stoke, Coventry, Spurs, Norwich, Notts County and Fulham yes.

Great stuff Special. Don't know how you remember the goalscorers! How do you remember that? I was at the Stoke game, Spurs and didn't we play Hearts in the Texaco as well? If I remember that was a big game and caused a huge rivalry between the two teams.

Funny about these pictures because in one way I became a Motherwell fan because in black and white pictures we were distinct from any other team, although the colours were more important. Kind of like Real Madrid in all white, unmistakable. Also I loved night games getting the bus from Newarthill and going down the hill at Clapperhowe and seeing the lights from the stadium in the distance. Those were great days and nights at FP. Thanks for sharing all your memories.

  5. I went all the way to Nancy on my own and back I did manage to meet lots of Well fans on the way mind. Still aint decided if Im going to Bucharest yet but looks like if I am its on my own again as my dads working and my pals skint.

Hope you manage to go. You will meet up with lots of 'Well fans and will have a great time. If I was there I would go by myself because although you might get there by yourself, you are not alone. All the best.

  6. Interesting reading peoples memories on that game, which I might have been at but can't really recall it. However, it also reminds me of when we played Rangers at FP and were up 2-0 until the Rangers fans rioted and got onto the field and that game was "simply" delayed. It was the same game that someone threw a golf ball onto the field with Joe Wark's name on it. After the break Rangers won the game. However, the game should have been abandoned by the authorities when we were 2-0 up because the rioters won and the SFA showed their true alegiance and had no regard for us.

  7. Cakes pic from St Mirren cup-tie in 1977.

A very tightly packed Fir Park that day with the 'official' attendance given at just under 27,000. "No way", said my old-man who was also at the 1952 cup-tie against Rangers. He reckons there was more in 77, and remember Fir Park was a larger arena in 77 than it was in 52 yet the attendance was given as approx 36,000.

That was an unbelievable crowd. I remember there was some great excitement in Lanarkshire leading up to this game. As someone who had seen large crowds at Fir Park, this was exceptional and I reckon there was more than the official attendance.

  8. Was down at Ujpest's ground earlier getting my tickets for the game tomorrow and got interviewed by Romanian TV (Pro2).

They wanted to know about Willie McStay and how bad the Ujpest fans were?

When they found out that I supported Motherwell, they wanted to know how much trouble the Motherwell fans would be in Bucharest

Allegedly at the last round in Bucharest the Steaua fans had a large banner stating:

"How long can a Hungarian women hold a shite in? Nine Months"

Any of the Romanians on the forum will have a laugh tonight, I'm not cut out for TV.

There is allegedly a huge political outrage about this. There there could be fines and if not bans imposed on Steaua. See this Romanian newspaper article:

    http://www.adevarul.ro/articole/absolute-w...e-subhuman.html

  9. Steaua's objective is to go in the groupe stage. It will be a tragedy for Steaua if you win this. Onicas, 2000 not 20.000 fans were on Santiago Bernabeu

LE: Sorry for my bad english

Hello and welcome. Your English is excellent, I bet there are very few Motherwell fans who can speak your language. Thanks for the information and I am sure we are in tougher against Steaua and it will be a very tough game for us especially if we lose the 1st leg by a number of goals. I'm hoping we can score a couple away from home regardless.

    Best wishes.

  10. Too many of the experienced players have been coasting for the last two years knowing that their place in the team was secure regardless of their form. The team which played last night didn't look in any way unsettled. If the "big time Charlies" don't like it, they know where the door is.

And in any event, Gannon is 100% correct in what he is saying.

    Stuart.

I agree with that. Certain players may have expected to play every game and because of that, they didn't have to give 100%. No one, regardless of who they are, who does not give their all for the shirt can and will sit on the bench or go elsewhere.

  11. I think McGhee is getting a bit of unfair criticism and as someone said above on this thread, fans are fickle. Would love to see a consistent manager here for a number of years but you can guarantee that when things go sour and when Gannon leaves, he'll get the same fickle response from fans. Enjoy the moment because manager's come and go as players do, but so far so good and these are great times for MFC.

  12. After following the Well for over 40 years,i have to say this is the best pre season there's been.I'd take being in the Europa cup every year even with the three qualifying rounds rather than piss poor friendlies.Maybe its an age thing where i now dont take things so much to heart but the amount of moaning done about the club by some people borders on the ridiculous at timesJust look at the last two weeks  .By the time the SPL starts we will be ready for it and will be a lot better prepared than some of our rivals, our Manager has probably gained about a months work in assessing the players by having competitive games now.We have a great game on Thursday to look forward to and if we get through ,how good is that gonna be? So quit moaning and get your asses over to Dungland on thurs and enjoy the good times.

    MON THE WELL

Agree ankles, this will definitely make the players fit for the start of the SPL season rather than the usual pre-season friendlies.

  13. Absolutely magnificent performance tonight, regardless of the calibre of the oppoisition since they really were an unknown entity. To score 8 goals against any team in a European competition is first class. At work I was checking the score on the official site and could not believe the goals that were going in so I am elighted for the manager, players and fans and this pre-season will make the players match fit.

  14. We should win the 2nd leg from the reports of the game only. However, in saying that of course we cannot be too complacent. What we also have to remember is that basically we do have to play two "away" games in the sense that Airdrie's ground is an away ground. Does anyone know if we have been training at Airdrie or how familiar the players are with that park? Anyway I think we will win 3-0, maybe 3-1 in the 2nd leg.
