Motherwell fans team FirParkCorner FC were crowned Merseyside Supporters Tournament winners 2009 at the annual competition held at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park on Monday.

The only Scottish side involved weren't the bookies favourite to progress, having been drawn alongside the last three winners of the competition in the group stages. The first match, versus the holders Rochdale, was a tough battle with the Steelmen eventually emerging with a 2-1 win thanks to a first half penalty from Peter Tait and a late winner from David Fraser.

Liverpool provided the next opposition for the troops in claret and amber, and a tight 0-0 draw was played out before the final group match against West Brom which resulted in a comfortable 2-0 victory for the Lanarkshire side thanks to a header from Davie Tonner and a Peter Tait free-kick.

The semi-final against Burnley was to be the heaviest scoreline of the day, with top-scorer Peter Tait bagging a hat-trick in a 4-0 win. The other strike, goal of the day, came from the boot of veteran striker Davie Tonner with an excellent turn and hit from long range.

With the depleted side through to the final, legs were tired but confidence was high as the 'Well side came up against a Rochdale outfit that had already been put to the sword in the group stages. However, fatigue was starting to show and the final was a much tighter, nervy affair. Craig Anderson gave the 'Corner a second half lead but, with one hand on the trophy, FPC were dealt a cruel blow as Rochdale hit a dramatic late equaliser to send the tie to penalties.

Motherwell stopper Steven Glenny saved the first Rochdale spot-kick to settle the nerves and conversions from Davie Tonner, Scott Brazil and Gary Wilson put FPC in the driving seat. However, there was more drama to come as Scott Anderson blazed his kick over the bar to make it 3-3 after four spot-kicks apiece. Steven Glenny was the hero for the 'Corner once more as he made an excellent saved to his right to hand the reliable Peter Tait the chance to convert for glory. He did just that and the celebrations began.

With the first piece of silverwear in the bag, FPC will now be looking to kick on and secure their first ever league title come the end of the season.

Good man !!!!!

Was some day,Fraz forgot to mention that the whole team apart from Peter tait had more than a few jars the night before tae.

That probably explains how he scored about 12 goals as a centre half lol. Or it could be that he is quality. I think it was a mixture of both.

Moan the FPC.

A good read. Well done to those concerned. Appologies for ignorance, but are there supporters leagues similar to the senior league set up.

Similar-ish. We have a 16-team league, with each team playing each other twice. The idea is that our fixtures co-incide with Motherwells, so we'll play against our Hearts counterparts (Real Maroon) when the 'Well are at Tynecastle. When the 'Well are up against a team who don't have a fans team in our league, we play one of the other teams make it tie in with the afternoon game (eg, 'Well at Rugby Park, we go and play Ayr). It's good because we have freedom over our fixtures, which means we don't play when Scotland are playing or on Scottish Cup days so we can have a day on the bevvy.

If anyone likes the sound of that, and can train on a Monday night, drop me a pm. All 'Well fans welcome.
