I’m sorry this is the last straw for me ! Once again Aiden McGeady is racially abused and the police and stewards stand by and do nothing . On or there abouts 17th minute of the Saturdays game a section of the Motherwell fans situated to right hand side of the celtic support found in there intolerable ignorance to chant to Aiden McGeady your in the wrong F****N country ! ! Yes I do have to repeat it because I have had enough of this. If 50 or so people were to stand on any other street and repeat such a vile chant to any other person of any nationality they would be arrested and charge with a racist breach of the peace but not Motherwell fans ! who bye the way have previous for this sort of thing. Therefore I have brought my feelings to the attention of the trust secretary and the chair with the hope of taking this matter further. Am I the only one who has had enough of this?

Thomas, couldn't agree with you more. There's a hard core of anti Celtic/Irish followers of Motherwell that has existed as long as I've followed The Hoops.

I wonder what treatment Govan born Tommy Coyne got, who, while playing for their club was an Eire Internationalist scoring for the Republic.

One of the Z list celebrities Tam Cowan makes no bones about his exhileration when they beat us allowing the H's to clinch the title. Anti Catholic/Irish sectarianism is alive and kicking in Bonnie Scotland. In a couple of weeks they'll be singing, "Come in come in it's nice tae see ye" "slong is yer no a Tim.

Keep the Faith

Thanks Bob for your support , I do believe that the trust secretary is in the process of drafting a letter to send to the commanding police officer who was in charge of the game and show racism the red card for there response. I have also made it now my mission to get answers to this sort of racism no matter which football ground it happens in the future especially if the police take no action.

I think it is important to remember that the sellic faithful are the most sinned against poor souls on earth, and their club is a magnificent organization who will welcome anyone regardless of religous beliefs, colour or country. Of course they havent swept years of sectarianism and child abuse under the carpet, dont be silly!

It may be a typical paranoid Celtic fan but the point about Tommy Coyne is a valid one. He could also mention Owen Coyle and Jim O Brien.

How is it valid? TC played for us and was revered for his performances in C&A. Owen Coyle did us a turn and was suitably appreciated. Jim has the support split but not on grounds of race/religion/creed or anything else, merely on his ability to contribute to our team.

McGeady is a repellant wee turd who plays for them therefore is fair game for abuse.

Fuck up ya melodramatic fool. Made it your mission to do what exactly? Point your finger at others whilst completely ignoring your own lot's bad behaviour so that you can play the victim card and squeal to all and sundry about the bad treatment you get in this nasty, bigoted country?

Just another example of the average Celtic fan's inability to accept that some people don't like them or their players.

Utterly pathetic.

I agree he is open for abuse :O Do you no think the song is just a wee tad hypocritical. Come on I am as guilty as the next man on this one. We moan at McGeady and McCarthy not playing for Scotland and choosing to play for ROI but we hae had players of their own who we have loved do the same. Don't get me wrong I think it's funny but deep down I am being a wee bit hypocritical. But that I suppose is what fitba is aw aboot. :P

Not hypocritical at all, I detest the Old Firm and any opportunity to have a dig at one of theirs is welcome. I cheered on The Cobra in USA playing for the Republic cos he was a Well player, one of our own, matters not to me. There may well be bigots among our support who wouldn't but they've got a hellofa lot more bigots than we have so I'm comfy in having a pop whenever it's possible. Let's face it they bring it on themselves with all that pseudo Irish shite they spout, thoroughly deserved abuse 'd say. McCarthy I never bothered wi' cos well, Accies are kinda cuddly ain't they? Cannae hate them. :O

Come on nethertonwellfan surely you can easily see the difference between Tommy Coyne and Owen Coyle and likes of McGeady and McCarthy! The former 2 had been over looked for years by Scotland and no one begrudged them making using of a family link to to play international fitba and in Coyne's case go to a World Cup final. I cheered Coyne on and was delighted for him. The latter two as 16 years olds flicked the V sign to their own country and made mealy mouthed excuses about being overlooked a whole world of difference.

O'Brien and McLean got some stick for similar decisions also but no one ever really thought they were that good so hardly bothered, still a bit twatty though making the decision at such a young age.

Celtic and their fans actually have a fantastic propaganda wing on the go that few can touch.

On one side every occasion possible we are reminded of how successful a club they are and how they have hundreds of thousands of award winning fans across the globe - the self-appointed Greatest Fans in the World no less. It is has said often enough that it has become gospel for those who wish to keep it going and for those who simply don't know better.

But then there is the more sinister the inbuilt inferiority/insecurity complex that has been handed down through the generations and built up by those whose means it suits. You simply can't say a bad word against without an accusation of an anti-Celtic agenda, sadly often accompanied by an anti-Irish or anti-catholic claim too. Going "boo" becomes construed as racial abuse of one of their players. Mocking an opposition player becomes xenophopbic and bigoted because they are so keen to find examples of it to back up their agenda that everyone is against them.

You don't need me to list the misdemeanours of their supporters - the list is lengthy - but where they have nailed it as soon as something does occur that could in anyway bring them in to disrepute or they pick up on something they don't particularly like they have an army of media and political allies that move swiftly into action until the issue has passed.

Witness the episode at Love Street a couple of years ago for example where the PA guy asked fans to refrain from singing offensive songs. Within hours the situation had turned on its head to the point that what their support was singing was deemed irrelevelent and the bad guy was the announcer who had dared to speak out.

Like fatcalf says I won't be losing any sleep over any accusations that are levied against us by any Celtic fan.

So are they really asking why we don't boo our own players?

Never thought i would have to try and explain that to anyone. Even OF fans i thought understood that you cheer on your own players and give dogs abuse to the opposition.

But anyway for the hard of thinking here goes;

Tommy Coyne, Owen Coyle, Brian McLean, Jim O'Brien etc. played for Motherwell and for whatever reason chose to play for Ireland. While playing for Motherwell they get our support. And even after leaving (esp. Coyne/Coyle) due to the good service they gave to our club will continue to receive our support.

Opposition player who merely due to fact is playing to try and beat Motherwell is going to get a bit of abuse. Add in the fact of playing for the OF and abuse increases. Add in another fact that whilst being Scottish and undoubtedly would get the opportunity to play for Scotland he chose to play for another country and the abuse increases a wee bit again.

I thought this was all straight forward and understood by football fans all over. Turns out I was wrong and there is no legislating for just how dim and paranoid OF fans can be.
