  1. Past hour
  2. Agreed. As encouraging as some of our business felt last week, the spine of the team is obviously key to success and ours needs addressing. JBA did hint that he has to be patient in trying to acquire some of the players he wants. I think we will be pursuing a quality centre half, midfielder and possibly a goalkeeper. Striker probably depends on the perceived robustness of Stama.
  3. Like others, I think SOD's best days are definitely behind him and he's back up, at best. However he's an honest professional and a good ambassador for the club and doesn't deserve the type of abuse he received yesterday.
  4. Understandably, after the frenetic pace of last week's arrivals, and yesterday's debacle in the sun, there's been more talk of the need for additional arrivals. Thats to be expected. However, JBA may also wish to loan out or mutual a few players he doesn't fancy to balance numbers. An interesting few weeks ahead.
  5. Completely agree - you'd think SOD was some form of evil who some how has convinced several managers to play him in a whole bunch of positions simply to sabotage and ensure we lose. He's a local guy who like us all has flaws and clearly gives his best. It's an about time the modern game exits anyone from the crowd for being abusive .
  6. Today
  7. Manager needs to rethink the goalie being 40 yards from his goal. That cost us today and other clubs will be watching. Oh and imagine the melt down if it had been SOD who gave the ball away for the goal.
  8. There was a time when we could bring in players from the English Championship or good level players from Rangers and Celtic. Those days are gone. That makes finding a strong spine much harder than it used to be and the likleyhood is any good player brought in is leaving after a season. If we'd kept all our good players over say, the last five seasons, we'd have a pretty good team. But the financial reality in 2025 is it's very, very difficult for a club our size to build a side that's got any quality.
  9. SOD didn't have a good game but some of the shouts aimed at him are just ridiculous. The guy wears the jersey like every other player and tries his best. With a fully fit squad I wouldn't have him in starting xi
  10. Agreed, that was Alex Fergusons approach in every team he built, a solid spine in the team as you mentioned with the keeper and CH the priority. Craig Brown done it when he took over, made us difficult to beat and built a decent team that took us to Europe.
  11. All these reasonable comments on here, so where do all the bunkernuts come from?
  12. I've never really rated sod but it's not nice to see the guy getting it tight week In week out. The fans aren't not known for their patience, here's hoping new guy will stick to his guns re style of play.
  13. We donโ€™t know that heโ€™s not making it a priority. Heโ€™s said himself the windowโ€™s open for almost two more months and that we should expect more movement.
  14. It'll be a lot cooler and played on a decent pitch so that takes away some of the reasons/excuses from Saturday. Askou has said he'll be utilising the whole squad and treating these games as 'competitive pre-season' so I think we will see changes. Could be an opportunity to play some younger players, especially if we can take the lead. At this stage in the season you can't expect a well oiled machine, it's more about getting into the knock stages, so it's result over performances for me.
  15. Aye the manager , who was a defence coach , can't see that and won't make that a priority to change.
  16. The exciting, progressive football is definitely a positive. But with that defence and keeper, the only way weโ€™re winning games is by scoring 3 or 4, because theyโ€™re always good for conceding at least 1 or 2 soft goals.
  17. This'll be my first game this season, and even after the Clyde result, I am excited about the prospect of seeing some progressive, positive football from Motherwell. I expect that the first half will be difficult, but we will eventually win through by a clear margin, 3-0 to The Well.
  18. After that shambles in the plastic Sahara yesterday, anything short of a proper win on real grass wonโ€™t cut it.
  19. Not hugely surprised at how things panned out . manager has been in for a few weeks Still got several players to sign . Fitness and sharpness is that of pre season - because it is preseason . several plays getting to know one another . new formation, new ways of playing . All of this takes time . Protected a few players by not risking them on that awful pitch . Think it was mcgarrys article a couple of weeks ago the spelled out the need for patience . He was spot on , itโ€™s going to take time to settle in after this significant overhaul of players , manager, change in approach .
  20. Exactly what I expected. Shite football on a shite park in a shite stadium only made worse by getting burnt alive with a 30mins wait in the kiosk queue and the usual wee fannies costing the club another fine by letting off flares amongst other things. On the positive side we were probably always going to have to beat Morton in the last game to qualify regardless of the result today, assuming we don't massively **** things up against the 2 minnows.
  21. SOD gets more abuse even when the rest of the defence is honking - part of me actually thinks he should be moved on for his own good.
  22. Yesterday
  23. There were a few factors that mitigated todayโ€™s performance - the heat, the appalling pitch that acted as a great leveller, and a referee who was very lenient towards cynical time wasting by Clyde - but in my opinion a good number of our fans had a poorer game than Stephen Oโ€™Donnell. Many of the things they accuse home of - losing concentration being the most obvious - they displayed throughout the ninety minutes, playing volleyball, lighting flares and directing unkind and unnecessary comments towards the team. Not that they canโ€™t criticise a poor performance but singling out someone who was far from the worst, who was not directly responsible for either of the goals we conceded and who always shows willing and makes himself available is not how I would characterise supporting your team. In a game we didnโ€™t lose. We should be better than this considering we are a community club, fan owned and team oriented. We will need to be better than this if we start this nonsense this early in the season.
  24. Downright embarrassing. (I'm saying no more). Night
  25. Was never going to be a classic and at least we got a bonus point. To any Bois that were there we won on pens as obviously you would't know as you were more interested playing with a football than watching also game. Also SOD wasn't great but the abuse that guy takes is embarrassing
  26. Im not sure why you are mentioning my Facebook comments on here tbh. It's got nothing to do with this forum. Yeah I know what the initial comment was. I also responded later to say that I wasn't expecting miracles - btw the person who posted that initial comment is a die hard Motherwell fan who was at the game today and was probably feeling a bit frustrated - surely that's allowed? I personally think if we did play crap - a manager should have the right to express it. I don't think it's necessarily throwing players under the bus - lots of fans who were at the game thought we were rotten today. I would personally rather a manager came out and said that than glossed over it.
  27. I noticed your facebook comment - in response to another poster. The initial comment being "If it's anything other than sorry that was pish he needs to have a real think" Surely by now we know that what a manager has to say - he can't respond like a fan. As a manager of players he will choose his words wisely - and we hope he takes away what we all see. Managers who chuck their players under a bus don't last long. Good managers move the players who are not required out in the longer term and bring in others to take their place.
