Robbo hinted in his presser that due to injuries both Bigi and Gorrin will start. Be interesting to see if this is the case and whether the football on show improves as a result.

Gorrin certainly has potential and can pass a ball for sure, just wonder if the two of them together may be slightly lightweight.

Just win Motherwell and we can look forward to happy and positive posts from Ya Bezzer, Milo and Yodo.

Na,  a horrible defeat with a few injuries thrown in, relegation guaranteed as it was a month into last season, job done and it’s a happy Saturday night.

A word of warning to everyone going along to the game today.  Don't expect a classic football match as you'll be disappointed.  Given our direct style of play and the plastic pitch it won't be a classic.  I'm going along to see us progress by almost any means possible.......great goals, refereeing errors, deflections, good luck whatever.

It’s  certainly not going to be pretty and it’s just a case of trying to grind out the win. Until we can get a few players back and fully fit it’s going to be a struggle without a doubt. If cadden is out it’s yet another blow. I would certainly start Johnstone alongside main, other than that I don’t see massive changes.

There doesn't always have to be a secret story behind what people say to the press.....sometimes it is exactly what it is.

    It's not the white house!

Yep, he’s made a pretty honest admission which sort of justifies Robinson’s decision not to start him in games. If Robinson had come out and publically slated him i’m pretty sure he would have taken plenty of stick. He’s now upped his game is is being given his chance and it’s up to him to take it.

Accies may lack a leader (I actually think that it's the worst Accies team I've seen in years), but at least they were organised. As the game wore on and subs were made, it started to look like no one knew where they were supposed to be playing.

Every other team you have listed have at least a point on the board. Livingston got a point at home to Kilmarnock. A great result? Far from it, but a result that we'd struggle to match right now...

Oh come on Accies were awful, yes we were poor but let’s not talk up Accies as organised,  we dominated posession, certainly first half and if we had a striker up front on Saturday anywhere near on form we would have taken all three points.

  6. Robinson was spot on when he said the final third cost us yesterday. We dominated posession but were woeful up front with both Main( who has taken a step back) and Sammon ( Who spent most of the game jumping into players) just not working together. Sammon should have been sent off first half for an obvious elbow and I still feel he’s a waste of a shirt and should only be used as an impact sub. Surprised to see a Bigi get a start and he did just ok, he had plenty of the ball but still flatters to deceive for me. The substitutions were a mistake, Sammon should have come off for Johnstone. At the back we are really missing Dunn with Hartley well off the pace. It’s not panic time just yet but we badly need Dunn, Tanner, and Bowman back who would make a real difference.

  7. Far too early for anyone to be calling for him to go, St Mirren fans hounded out Danny Lennon because they thought someone else could work wonders with little money and they then endured four years of misery. How many posts were there on here last season stating we were going to get relegated ? Be very careful what you wish for.

  8. Very hopeful of a win and unusually i’m not supporting Stephen to the game so going myself and heading into the John Hunter stand for the first time ever. I would personally still stick with Main up front just now and would love to see Aldred back in defence although I think it’s doubtful he’s ready yet. I would certainly like to see Tait in over Frear. Looking forward to it.

Of course not.  However its far too early to make judgements.  Our new acquisitions will take time to settle in and we won't be able to arrive at an informed opinion for a month or two yet.

Mark Gillespie:  not seen much of him so far but seems fine in the little game time he's had.

Aaron Taylor-Sinclair: not match fit after recovering from a long term injury.  Don't think he's played a full match yet?  Remember Charles Dunne last year?

Tom Aldred:  played well last season but hasn't kicked a ball yet.  Can't judge him.

Christian Mbulu: hasn't kicked a ball yet.  Can't judge him. Longer term prospect?

Liam Donnelly:  just getting up to match fitness.  Brought in as cover but a bit mixed so far.  Too early to judge.

Alex Rodriguez Gorrin:  not had much game time yet but looks ok so far.

Danny Johnson:  again not had much game time but looks promising.

Conor Sammon:  no world beater but done ok so far scoring aginast lower league opposition.  Not the type of player I nor most fans thought he was ie he's more of a footballer.

I'm not saying for a minute that all the newcomers will be a success; some will some won't.

Robbo has concentrated more on building squad depth certainly but there's no point in taking medicine for a condition you may not have at all or if you do have it,  don't even know what it is.

Yep, eight players there with two or three others such as a Hartley still not match fit. I personally like the look of Gorrin and Johnson, Aldred we know can do a job and even Sammon who i’m no huge fan of has done ok.

    Very touchy.

I’m assuming that yourself, like the rest of the happy clappers will be delighted if we find ourselves relegated; chance of a wee day out to places we never normally go, perhaps?

    Utter Guff

Think that’s a little unfair. I guess i’m also in the happy clapper camp if we are now labelling individuals.  I just think it’s far too early to state we are doomed this early in the season with a number of new additions still to bed in. There is no doubt this forum can be a pretty depressing read at times, even last season when we actually over performed. I get that to a degree it’s down to the style of football played but I would rather that than what we had under McGee who I think was taking us down and Baraclough who had no idea what he was doing half the time. Let’s give it a few games and see how they settle, if we lose a run of games Robinson will join McGee and Barclough out the door.

  11. Personally I feel it’s far too early to make a judgement on the squad or it’s versatility. I also don’t feel the effectiveness of his style is that open to question given last season. We did well in the league in my view and made two cup finals. Yes we lost both, but to a team head and shoulders above anyone else, even clubs on huge budgets next to ours. Along the way to the finals we beat Aberdeen, Rangers, and Hearts, the three other biggest teams in Scotland. How much more effective did his style need to be shown to be ?

Aldred did well last season but I agree that, outwith Aldred's own merits as a player, this is a signing with problems - the defensive balance, bringing Maguire through, an apparent commitment to playing McHugh in midfield, where it leaves Donnelly.

For me Robinson is really backing himself into a corner here with his signings.

Right now it looks the squad is not versatile enough and we don't have the personnel to play anything other than Robinson's favoured style - the merits and effectiveness of which remain open to question.

Watched the highlights against Hibs and it wasn't good - not by a long shot.

Seems to be case this season that the team hasn't quite hit the heights hoped for, but it has to be remembered it remains early days.

Would have been foolish for Robinson to blast them publicly, especially against a very good Hibs side who, if they keep McGinn, will have designs on finishing second. I'm sure, however, within the confines of the dressing room it was a different story.

Robinson also deserves some praise in not looking to use injuries/suspensions excuse many others would have reached for in a heartbeat. Dunne is such an important player now (worth remembering his shaky start to life at Fir Park), while Campbell's bite and tenacity in midfield is so crucial to how Robinson likes his team to play. Losing Kipre just a few days before would undoubtedly have disrupted preparations as well, but the size of the offer dictated his departure.

Some others don't quite look match fit yet, while Hibs have had the bonus of playing some very competitive European matches, so no surprise to see them looking a little bit sharper.

However, if Robinson isn't contemplating at least 3-4 changes for Hamilton then I'd be worried. Johnson must be in with a shout of replacing either Main/Sammon, especially as he seems to complement a more robust and physical strike partner. Campbell will come back in, but surely Frear is worthy of a place given his ability to get balls into the box?

Creativity from midfield seems to be the main bugbear. Gorrin looks the most likely to provide it, but he is going to need time to adapt. A local derby may just be beyond him at the moment given Hamilton will be hurting from their own mauling by Hearts. They will come to Fir Park looking to make it a battle and we will need players of that ilk to stand up to this in the initial stages.

I respect the opinion of every Well fan, even if we see it differently, but growing uneasy at the number who feel Robinson now isn't up to the job.

This is a manager who took us to our best record of clean sheets in several seasons (helped greatly by a settled back three of Aldred, Kipre and Dunne), not to mention two cup finals and within spitting distance of the top six. After recent campaigns, that is some turnaround.

Robinson made us hard to beat again, so much so that very few teams must have enjoyed playing against us last season. I'm not saying it was a campaign full of free-flowing football, but he got the team playing to its strengths and results were (mostly) achieved when it mattered.

Now, he has the challenge of trying to kick on, especially with expectations being raised. Like others have said, games against the likes of Hibs won't define our season, but the likes of Hamilton will. Robinson and his squad have more than earned the right to be given a shot at redemption, not early judgements on their abilities, especially the manager.

Hopefully the board will give Robinson some cash and bringing Aldred back would seem the most sensible option given he shouldn't require a settling in period. That should help to bolster a backline that has looked less than stable.

Agree with much of that. Robinson’s challenge with regards the fan base is his style of football and I can’t help feeling a good few will just never accept him for that and want to see the back of him. I don’t believe he’s going to change and as such I feel at some stage fan pressure will see the back of him.

  14. It’s just too early to make judgements. The new guys need time to bed in with Donnelly, Johnson and Gorrin all looking as though they could have something to offer with Johnsone in particular another possible Moult. I’m no Sammon fan but even he has shown he has something to offer with the ball at his feet. The back three of last season has been decimated, Hartley is certain not “match” fit yet, he’s just one of those players that needs time after a long lay off and when the new centre half comes in I would expect us to go straight back to a back three with Dunn back in and McHugh back to midfield. While no fan of Sammon I do rate Bowman higher than most on here and think he has also been missed.  It’s clear Robinson has not been given funds to be able to splash out and we need to remember that would apply to any other manager we have in charge and  i’m sure he finds it as frustrating as the rest of us. However as with last season we play in a style he feels maximises results with what he has at his disposal and that’s not going to change . If it’s a disaster 10/15 games in he’s probably going to get sacked and we go again, might see better football under a new manager but it’s still going to be on a budget with lower league players brought in.

I know it’s came from the manager but how can we possibly have no money for new players. Why have we spent money on players like Liam Donnelly or even brought in Gorrin who I do think is a decent player. We desperately need a CB with pace especially with Dunne out, also I would hate for any of our other assests to leave now as I think we’d struggle because I don’t think we are going to be the same team as last year.

We clearly have a good amount of money after the cup finals and transfer fees received, the club has simply decided it’s going to be used in other areas.

I’m surprised he went straight into the starting line up today. That’s got to be hard.

They seem very impressed with him on a couple of their forums. Hopefully we have a healthy sell on percentage and another million in the bank in 12 months time.

Cedric at fault for Sheffield equaliser ......according to SSN

They are going to have to be patient with him and just give him game time, he committed a few howlers with us early days. It’s not going to be easy for him against the far superior strikers he will come up against in the championship and the risk is they drop him and he drifts down the pecking order.

By all accounts, Aldred looks like hes in an unhappy situation at Bury. Apparently he's been in the U23's pre-season, fan forums suggest he's playing like a guy looking to get through games without getting injured. Fans clearly want rid.

With a year left in his contract, highly doubtful that we would see him back here but wow, how different things would feel if we pulled that off.

As it stands now I don’t see why he would not return to a club where he would be a starter and where he’s appreciated. He’s maybe not lightening fast be we know what we are getting and that’s a very solid and dependable centre half.

    Many ways do so.

One option would have been to place emphasis on strengthening the squad this summer through the promotion of youth ie. turbull, Maguire, Scott etc. Rather than adding to what has become. A bloated midfield for example, whilst utilising other assets we have in the squad, ie. Bigirmana. None of those mentioned have had a look in on the cup games and I’m doubtful they will for the ucpcoming league matches.

‘Subsequently, you can argue that this would have allowed a differening of budget prioritisation ie. bringing in 1 striker of note rather than a journeyman SPL striker and a non league - I’m sure combining two salaries to one could’ve allowed us to bring in very decent quality with Main, Bowman and Scott and the ever injured Newell and a returning Tanner all in the mix and I’d argue, same strategy for midfield.

I’m not convinced that would work. People always talk about promoting youth but the vast majority turn out to be not good enough and you can’t rush the good ones through too early. I would have loved to see an established striker come in but they don’t come cheap and we would end up breaking the wage structure to even get them to sign with us. Personally I don’t think Bigi is as good as a few think he is.

  20. Really I don’t see what else the club could do without running up more debt or fail to clear that we already have. The club has 3500 core support and short of a huge run of luck with a group of new, cheap signings can’t hope to compete with the large, big city clubs with support up to 15 times ours. First priority should always be get rid of that debt and then it’s going to be able to invest to a higher level in the playing squad. I don’t think it shows a lack of ambition by either the board of the supporters that advocate the above, it’s just the sensible way to move the club forward. Yes they have to balance losing too many players and risking relegation but I don’t think they have done too bad a job up to this point.
