Game over now unfortunately, we wont stop them scoring again and theres no way we will score another 2. Fuckin howler from Carson.

Not sure I would go as far as saying game over but obviously it’s now in Rangers hands and I would not be surprised to see them score a couple more. Regardless positives to be taken from a terrific first half we can take forward into the next game whatever happens second half.

Going on our form so far we should probably lose this one pretty handily, but I'd not be surprised at all if we are on here after the game talking about how the point we got from the game is more two points lost than one gained.

Personally I would take a point in a heartbeat then move on to the next very winnable one.

I'd say they're still a bit of an unknown just now.

1-1 at Aberdeen with 10 men was a decent result, however every other competitive game is what you would expect. I'd even go as far to say some their results in Europe have been pretty awful for a club Rangers size. Draws against Shkupi, Osikej and Maribor would have been a rid neck a few years ago.

That said, he's certainly bought a bit of stability and belief which are two of the most important things in football.

Still a lot to prove of course but i’m pretty sure they would have been out of Europe by now if they had stuck with what they had. Don’t think he’s done a lot wrong at this point given he’s unproven and it’s his first shot at management in such a high pressure position.

Moving on, big game tomorrow and I'm not particularly confident but that's nothing new.

I'm missing it unfortunately but was at Livingston last week and would like to see Bigi and Campbell start. Thought Main and Johnson had the makings of a good partnership but we don't look as strong at the back as we did for spells last season. There are reasons for that but I think it will be a difficult afternoon because of it.

Sadly also missing it myself and yes I would agree we are still fragile at the back, Dunn can’t come back quick enough. Fearing a loss but it’s football and stranger things have happened.

Have never been a Gerrard fan but fair do,s to him in today’s presser got quizzed on Hartley comments and he said Guy was Nieve making they comments but has apologised so time to forget about it and move on . Then asked if ref needs to protect his players on Sunday and said ref has to protect players in both teams so very refreshing to see this response .

I think Gerrard has fallen into the trap of coming out with the “no one likes us” lines a couple of times, but he knows it gets the fans onside. As much as he has no real knowledge of the mentality in the west of Scotland which is totally different to down south he will, no doubt have received advice on how you do things as a manager up here. Other than that he looks to be doing a bloody good job turning them around.

The snowflakes are alive and well within the Motherwell support I see...

...if this was any other team (bar Celtic), we wouldn't be having this bullshit, from an off-the-cuff quip. Rangers have turned into a Club who love to be offended, they love to be the victim, they love to have a reason to say 'see, everybody hates us'...fuck them. The media latch onto this, and before we know it we're putting out grovelling apologies to a Club whose fans have got themselves into bother umpteen times already this season, fighting and coming off second best at home and abroad...this is a Club that condones, by continually turning a blind eye to the 'special atmosphere' created home and away, glorifying in the death and destruction of all things Catholicism. This is a Club, that along with the other cunts from the East End, have consistently bled the Scottish Leagues dry, and we're apologising to them because our captain said that he laughed at the way Cardoso moaned about a broken nose?

A broken fucking nose, not a life-threatening injury, not a leg-break or a decapitation...a broken nose, and while the way he put it across was clumsy, its been blown out of all proportion by the victims from Ibrox and their self-serving pals in the media, meanwhile we've got Motherwell fans wringing their hands and worrying about, what the rest of Scottish fitba' thinks of us...I've got news for you, they think we are a team of cloggers and thats down to our style of play and whether Hartley said that or not, they would still think that this morning...our fans are worrying about Steven Gerrards team talk, c'mon tae fuck really? If he needs Peter Hartley to get his team wound up and up for it, then hes in a bit of bother...our fans are worrying about the referees take on it, but its Craig Thompson and he'll fuck us over whatever the fuck we say or do, we could send the physio in to give him a massage with a happy ending before the match and he'll still give these cunts everything on Sunday.

I've heard others ask, 'but what if the roles were reversed and it was a Rangers player laughing at our player for being a big fucking lassie'...my answer to that, 'the compliance officer would be giving not one single fuck'.

It was a stupid thing to say, other than that people can make of it what they wish. If we get beat on Sunday it won’t have anything to do with what Hartley said though. People still make too much of other factors when it’s 95% down to the quality of a team. Rangers will have a better season because they are now actually a better team than the one we faced at Hampden and that alone makes the challenge for clubs like ours tougher.

    2-1 please

Bowman is still out injured.  Replace him with Main and Rose for Gorrin, the combination of Gorrin and Bigi against Rangers could backfire big style although I do think he could make an impact as the season progresses.

Of course what I was saying was a guess - although it is based on a lot of what the club, the manager and the Well Society have communicated over the past few seasons about our relative budgets, our rigid wage structure and how various loan deals have worked.

And like I said, I wasn't a big fan of Sammon being signed - even though his goals were every valuable in the league cup group.

I don't think he's complete shite either, though. Just average. I'd rather we had signed someone that offered something a bit different, rather than more of the big, strong, hard running variety.

Last season Bowman scored 10 in 42 games, Main 9 in 30 (for us and Portsmouth) and Sammon 10 in 37 games. I'd say that is a pretty mediocre return from all 3. We need someone up top who is closer to the 20 goal mark and it seems we are pinning that role on Johnson - that's a big ask.

I would suggest Johnson is the player we signed that was different and for me has the potential to be a 20 goal a season striker. That gives us him, Main, Bowman, Sammon, and Tanner. To be fair with our budget that’s respectable enough.

  9. I doubt Sammon would start anyway, Main , Johnson the front two from now on. His first challenge on Saturday, the ball is in the air, he takes a quick look at the players and barges into him just before the ball arrives. He does the same thing every bloody challenge.

We have been really unfortunate with the cup draws in recent times. Very few home draws to speak of in the knock out phases in recent years. I can't remember the last time we drew a non premiership team either.  Morton knocked us out of the league cup a few seasons back. Have we had a lower division side since then?

Ayr Utd at home would have been perfect. Rangers have that. They have been fairly fortunate with cup draws over the last few seasons by comparison.

The fact that the draw has been so unkind in recent years makes last years cup success all the more impressive. If we could beat Hearts at Tynecastle , I think the term cup specialists would be more than justified.  A tough tie but winnable.

Hey ho, let’s be honest bar Ayr who are on top form anyway they were all tough draws. As you say winnable if we are on top form but obviously Hearts go into the game heavy favourites.

I very much suspect you're right there for more than one reason.  Aside from the fact Robinson generally goes with those he trusts it would be quite bold to go with them both from the start against Rangers given the oft said "win the right to play" mantra.  But on the basis of yesterday it's now presented itself a viable option when we do need some variance whether chasing a game or against a side more of our ilk.

    Agreed

An open and entertaining Cup tie that happily we managed get through with a few positives along the way.

It was fairly encouraging stuff, first half at least.

I'm a little surprised to some remarks about the balance not being right. Not perfect but to me it actually appeared as balanced a line up as we've had in a while. The defence appeared fairly well tuned with Hartley in particular looking a bit more like his old self with that old mixture of appropriately timed aggression and positional sense being more evident than it has been thus far.  And even after he went off the longer the game went on it was pleasing how less and less Livingston were able to trouble Carson.

Whether by accident or design having two "footballers" in the middle of the park in Bigi and Alex made such a positive difference.  That additional player in the middle that is primarily there to create rather than nulify to me gave us a much better balanced side. They aren't going to be making defence splitting passes every five minutes but just that ability to show a little composure on the ball, recycling it along the deck to a team-mate to retain possession and build again rather than a panicky long ball makes such a fundamental difference in how we play. It could be argued of course that Robinson already views Cadden as one of those two creative types but it remains up for debate how effective he is in that role.

And up front it was not only great to see Johnson get on the scoresheet but that Main was involved in the build up was equally encouraging.

Things did drop off a fair bit in the second half though and the longer the game went on the more we seemed to revert to type but I think on the back on what's gone before this season I've a good deal more optimism than I had beforehand.

I worried in advance that the combination of Bigi and Gorrin may be a little lightweight but they actually did well against to be fair a pretty limited side, Cadden is certainly not as creative but pretty much a shoe in when fit. We played a lot more football on the ground yesterday because of that combination but I can see Gorrin being dropped again next game up.

Did what we had to do, at least Robinson should now realise that Johnson needs to start along side Main upfront.

Johnson is going to be our top scorer for at least the next couple of seasons unless he gets another move, the guys a natural goalscorer.  Think we have unearthed another potential gem

  14. Lots of positives from today. Bigi and Gorrin both show potential and Johnson is going to score a stack of goals for us when fully up to speed. Very good first half with plenty of passing football, their keeper kept them in the game. Second half we sat too deep and let them back in it although even then Carson had little to do.

But that pitch is an absolute abomination and should be replaced immediately.
