  1. I have a post-war list somewhere but I'll need to find it and it will be a little out of date. EDIT. OK, a little out of date but gives you a general idea. League appearances - it's not my list so I can't vouch for the veracity of it! I found it on the internet somewhere. Obviously Stevie Hammell would be much higher up the list and Craigan has 200+ appearances. I think I'm right in saying David Clarkson would also make the 200+ list. EDIT - Started updating it. Corrigan, Craigan, Hammell, Clarkson. Anyone else likely to have gone over the 200 league appearances mark? Joe Wark - 469 Willie Kilmarnock - 452 John Johnston - 323 Charlie Aitken - 313 Archie Shaw - 313 John Philliben - 302 Andy Paton - 301 Stevie Kirk - 301 John Martis - 297 (Stevie Hammell - 291) John Gahagan - 284 Willie McCallum - 277 Chris McCart - 260 Tom Boyd - 256 Dougie Arnott - 240 (I have Arnott on a final total of 253 league appearances) (Stephen Craigan - 251 by my count) Bert McCann - 246 Ian McLeod - 243 Martyn Corrigan - 208 (I have Corrigan on a final total of 242 league appearances) Brian Martin - 237 Willie Hunter - 229 Willie Redpath - 226 (David Clarkson - 220 by my count) Jim Forrest - 215 Andy Weir - 202
  2. We were 7th for one week, ironically after the start of Brown's good run with 2 wins and a draw. However by that stage most of the teams had caught up with us to to the poor run of Gannon's latter days. The stat that matters is that Brown has won 8 out of 12, Gannon won 4 out of 17.
  3. It has to be worrying that we have a lower average attendance this season than Falkirk or Kilmarnock considering the contrasting performances this season. If you exclude matches against Rangers, Celtic and Hibernian we've only had one 5,000+ attendance all season and that was the first home match of the season.
  4. Our home support should be bigger than it is, especially during a 12 match unbeaten run but Hearts are supposedly the third biggest team in Scotland, have something like 15,000 season ticket holders and the brought maybe 400 fans today. Hearts away form really is abysmal though so maybe you can't really blame Hearts supporters for not traveling!
  5. Ya Bezzer!

    Hearts

Tough decision today - lots of good performances. Though Mark Reynolds had an excellent game, Lasley and Jennings were excellent in the middle of the park, Murphy was superb especially in the first half, O'Brien looked lively, Hammell was solid. Would give it to John Sutton though. Terrific in attack and defence.
  6. You almost felt sorry for the boy Thomson. Murphy absolutely roasted him in the first half.
  7. Hearts didn't bring a big support only about 400 or so. More than deserved the win even although we played in 2nd gear for most of the match.
  8. On form we should be beating Hearts at home but then we have ridden our luck a bit in the last couple of matches. 2-0 Motherwell.
  9. MOTHERWELL H v Hearts A v Dundee United H v Falkirk A v Celtic DUNDEE UNITED A v Aberdeen A v Hibernian H v Motherwell A v St. Johnstone H v Rangers HIBERNIAN A v Hearts H v Dundee United A v Falkirk H v Celtic A v Hamilton
  10. Big sigh of relief, the unbeaten run continues, no goal conceded again and now let's beat Hearts.
  11. Doubt it since St. Johnstone have about 4 games in hand.
  12. I'd take 0-0 from this, say thank you very much and get then get wired into the Jambos.
  13. Yeah but generally attendances are down. Our average attendance dropped by 1,500 between season 2004/05 and last season (6,960 to 5,521). Our current average attendance is the worst in the last 10 years although it might improve if we have some big Battle for Europe type matches; against that Celtic probably won't bring a big support and we might have them twice at Fir Park.
  14. Probably right since Mehmet is on the bench. Ruddy - Saunders, Craigan, Reynolds, Hammell - Coke, Forbes, Hateley, Jennings, Humphrey - Sutton.
  15. Broon has more or less said he wants to give guys a rest before the Hearts game so they are fresh for Saturday.
  16. Formation change - back five with Saunders brought back in....
  17. We've more or less put a flag up saying "someone please buy Mark Reynolds" but its not to finance transfer movements its to keep the wolf from the door. We need to sell Reynolds because we are losing money with gates down and tv money diminished and need to keep bringing in transfer fees. The idea that we could get 350K to spend from a 500K fee for Reynolds to bring in players its naive to say the least. If any money is made available it will be for a players annual wage, not for transfer fees. The days of us spending 350K on transfer fees are over, forget it.
  18. Ya Bezzer!

    John Ruddy

Mowbray hasn't signed or even been linked (as far as I know) to any player in the SPL. Considering the number of changes he's made that tells you something. He doesn't see it as a market place for Celtic players. I'd be very surprised if Mowbray ever signs a player from another SPL club in his time at Celtic, however long that might be. OK, Ruddy technically isn't a Motherwell player but you get the idea.
  19. There were folks on here this time last season saying they weren't bothered about qualifying for Europe. Love the European games and would be buzzing if we had some to look forward to next season.....however we aren't there yet. It would be interesting to see Craig Brown taking a team into Europe. You never know with all his experience of top level football we might get a few rounds in depending on the draw.
  20. Do you remember the European games? Most Scottish refs are better than most of the European refs that I've seen. Probably the worst refereeing performance I've ever seen was Anders Frisk against Borussia, supposedly one of the top refs in Europe at the time! The Forbes goal was a disgrace but you can't tar everyone with that brush. My main problem with Scottish referees is things like the lack of accountability, not speaking to the media, the general incestuousness and aloofness of the refereeing fraternity, the ridiculous appeals system etc...
  21. We only had one sending off in season 2007/08 - Bob Malcolm at Celtic Park. In 2006/07 we had quite a few 6 in total, including two double sending offs - Paterson and Clarkson in the same game at Kilmarnock; Fitzpatrick v Rangers; Quinn v Dundee Utd; and McDonald and Reynolds in the same game at Dunfermline.
  22. Really? Where was all this great football we played under Gannon? It must have been away from Fir Park cos I didn't see it. A good second half against Kilmarnock and a battling display against Rangers (in which we created very few goal scoring chances) is all you could point to and say was better than average. I was probably one of the earliest and most vociferous critics of Gannon but even I'd give credit to him for the signings he made, although I don't accept some peoples argument that he built us up from nothing. We already had a strong spine when Gannon arrived (Hammell, Lasley, Craigan, Reynolds, O'Brien, Sutton plus guys like Murphy, Fitzpatrick, McGarry and all the young players). We needed players to be brought in but we already had 6 or 7 players that would be automatic first choice players for most of the teams in the league so there was already a strong framework to build on. Gannon brought in good player but in ever other regard I think the Gannon era was a failure and we have a far superior manager in place now.
  23. Don't agree with this at all. Rob McKinnon and Paul Lambert left Motherwell and had successful careers in Europe. Not many Scottish players have gone to Europe full stop. Even so quite a few that have done have done reasonably well - Scott Booth, Brian O'Neil, John Collins, Charlie Miller, Craig Brewster etc.
  24. Great win. Seven out of ten with no defeats.
