  1. I'd love to say it seems like yesterday but frankly it doesn't! Cup wins seem to be almost a once in a generation thing for Motherwell fans, I just hope the younger fans get to experience in the future what we older fans did in the past.
  2. There aren't many disadvantages to having Brown and Knox at the club without contracts. If things go well, they aren't likely to up sticks and go somewhere else and will most likely keep on doing the job. If things don't go well, they will move aside without any financial compensation having to be paid out. You only really need a contract with someone when you feel you need some form of legal protection. With managers like McGhee or Gannon who were always likely to have an eye elsewhere that would have been the sensible thing to do, but with Brown and Knox who are very unlikely to move on to another club not only is it not required but it actually is to our advantage not to have a contract. The reason there is no contract is because it suits both parties. Craig Brown will leave when he feels he is no longer up to the job and retire permanently from football. He would do that anyway whether he had a contract or not so the existence of a contract is really irrelevant.
  3. As far as I'm concerned if I've not seen them at Fir Park before and they came here in an airplane it's a glamour tie! And yeah, there are unseeded teams in 2nd Q. Rnd that could easily beat us, best not get too cocky.
  4. More like 85%! It's not stopped them sponsoring other sports though, think RBS Six Nations rugby.
  5. Coke is a decent player - some of the time - but I won't be losing too much sleep if he goes, journeymen triers who can run about a bit, put the odd tackle and score a couple of goals a season aren't exactly irreplaceable. Hateley was excellent for most of the season but the abysmal last 5 or 6 weeks when he put in some of the worst performances I've seen in a long time will soften the blow if he goes, which looks likely. Frankly, I think Hateley might have gotten a bit big for his boots. When you are 20 years old and have a professional record of 15 games for Basingstoke Town you don't then turn round and make demands about where you are playing to the club that took you off the football scrap heap. Pretty disrespectful both to the club and to a manager like Craig Brown. That said I'd be happy to see him settle down and sign a new contract.
  6. Was thinking that myself.
  7. Couldn't we have played Steaua game at Fir Park but choose to let the pitch time to knit? I'd imagine since the pitch isn't being completely rebuilt from the bottom up they can get the seed down quicker and, you'd imagine, it will be ready quicker than last year.
  8. We got about 14,000 people through the gates that we wouldn't normally. Probably made about a £300,000 minus deductions (stadium hire, away match expenses, tax, etc). I doubt we made a fortune but if we were left with a third to a half of that then that's a significant sum for a club our size.
  9. We could get Llanelli again!
  10. He was linked with us last season when we brought Coke up from Northampton. I know some people down there and they were disappointed when Andy Kirk, who did well for Northampton, left for Dunfermline. Maybe that is a better comparison of levels.
  11. Ross County's last match was a 4-1 defeat to Raith Rovers!
  12. Pretty much, this says he is on pretty good money or negotiated himself a pay rise.
  13. I'm going to support Dundee Utd as if they were Motherwell today. In fact I'm going to refer to Dundee Utd AS Mothewell, imagine them in claret and amber and cross reference their squad numbers with our squad numbers so if no. 9 Jon Daly scores it wasn't really Jon Daly that scored it was no.9 John Sutton and I'll chant 'Sutto! Sutto! Sutto!' at the television.
  14. I don't actually mind if we don't have a band or hoop once in a while as long as we always go back to it. I'd like to see white shorts back and black socks. I don't think we've ever had black socks in my time as a supporter and it would be a nice wee change.
  15. The Ya Bezzer! seasonal SPL stat spreadsheets are more or less finished, just waiting for Dundee Utd cup final result and then give them a final check over, but here is the Motherwell one if you are interested. http://www.mediafire.com/?z2tvmmmhn4a All the results, line ups, attendances, form, referees, weekly league positions, bookings/red cards etc etc.
  16. I'll be doing Munros at the weekend in an ultimately pointless quest to lose weight. Of course the first thing you do when you get off the hill is head to the local pub have a slap up meal and then down a two or three pints of Guinness thereby replacing every calorie you just burned off.
  17. Three main candidates for me were Ruddy, Hateley and Sutton. Hateley has been pretty poor lately, not just a couple of games like someone said, more like 4 or 5 weeks. So I'm going to rule him out. Ruddy or Sutton? Very difficult choice but again I think Ruddy didn't quite do as well at the end of the season whereas Sutton got better and better as the campaign went on and therefore he has the momentum. So I'm going to give my vote to John Sutton.
  18. It was the Falkirk game that did us. They came to our place won 1-0 and got relegated a month later. Having said that match was really the only 'bad' result we had in the whole second half of the season so really we ought to congratulate Brown and the team for being in that position in the last day. Just a wee stat for you, Brown got an average of 1.83 points per game over 18 matches. If we'd managed that over the whole season we would have finished 7 points clear of Dundee Utd in 3rd place. Gannon managed 1.17 points per game over 17 matches which over a season would have had us finish in 8th place.
  19. A month ago I would have said Hateley was our best player this season but not now. He's been garbage since he came out with all this guff about not signing a new contract unless the pitch was sorted and then 'demanding' to be played in midfield. Have things gone to his head? Is he on his way? Certainly isn't playing like he's settled and happy. Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves during the summer.
  20. Just like the rest of the SPL except he has a squad like full of international players.
  21. Amazing result - amazing season all in all. Really we fucked it up on Wednesday, we had to win and we didn't so can't really blame anyone else but ourselves but even so it's hard to stay mad at this team. Surely Dundee Utd will win the cup final, right?
