Does this negativity permeate through your daily life or is it just all things Motherwell that brings you down? The club is clearly reasonably well run, the team less so this season but hopefully things are looking a little brighter. The video was produced by a top agency, not just thrown together, not everyone likes it but it seems to have caused a positive stir so maybe some people know more about these things than us.

Kettlewell said that Bair would be a project, I took from that that he would be coached through the season to improve parts of his game so that he would be closer to the finished product as the season goes on. I think he got more game time than expected early on due to injuries. But watching his link up play, then his assists and now his goals I think the project is a success.

Giving Kettlewell credit for last season does not take anything away from KVV’s contribution to it.

It was Georgie Gent but Davor ran him close then Bair came on, had two attempts at goal then a perfect cross for the goal. A day for the underdog.

Paton’s suspension is 2 matches.

Wilkinson was excellent coming forward from midfield on Saturday.

I think we were misguided in thinking that the defence was fine given that last season’s success was built on that plus KVV. Then we got confused by thinking that we have a shocking selection of strikers except that they have all scored goals (Shaw just does assists). But I think you are right the issue may be the midfield. We need to find a formation where we can retain the ball, protect the defence and feed the attack. A tall order but some other teams manage to do it.

There is agreement that signings have been poor but should the club be more transparent about the process. If we had a list of 10 strikers and we were priced out of nos. 1 - 3, and 4 & 5 didn’t fancy a move to Scotland and Wilkinson was no. 6, did that mean we didn’t try? If the fans don’t fancy Wilkinson should we have moved on to no. 7 or just chucked it? A change of manager may give us a short term bounce due to the different voice but in all likelihood we will be in a similar position next season. I would prefer that the existing regime improves, management and players. Kettlewell doesn’t appear to be completely stuck in his ways like Hammell was, he has tinkered a little, perhaps he needs to be braver and more radical. (Is playing wingbacks on the correct side radical?). Lets score 5 against County on a cold winter’s night, it’s been done before.

I think Bair is a red herring, it was made clear that he was here on washers, he isn’t taking up a wage that could go to someone else. The idea was that he would be moulded in the background and see if he could be turned into a player. Then everyone got injured. He has proved to be more effective than a couple of the other strikers so he has stayed around the squad. If we are criticising signings there are many other targets who were signed as first team players.

These windows are actually registration windows. Clubs could hire players at any time but can only register them to play in the next window (unless they weren’t registered with another club when signed). Shane Blaney arrived in December but we couldn’t play him till January.
