There's something in the argument about our national team declining. However its also true that other countries have improved. In a cut throat competitive environment its simple logic that if one team moves up another must move down. Many smaller countries have improved markedly and are no longer the Aunt Sallies they once were. The game itself has changed in that tactics have developed no end and teams are better organised. Its easy to identify admire the skills of a flamboyant striker but how easy is it to identify and admire the skills of a great defensive midfielder who doesn't need to tackle?

one measure of the lack of quality in our game may be how few SPFL players are in the national team, which itself is hardly decent.

Also, when did we (or our opposition) last have a player that you'd pay to see?

TBF, when we had a good national side it was full of players from Liverpool, Man U, Leeds, Chelsea etc.

Interesting that while Fir Park seems like a ghost town these days that crowds are up, quite significantly.

These are nicked from P&B but the boy who posted them is usually spot on. And this was after we have played everyone once at home, so a decent sample.

2014-15: 4,286

2015-16: 4,804

Also nice to note that we retain our reasonably important crown (imo) of 'Best non-city' club in terms of Attendance, ahead of Killie and St Johnstone and obviously ICT, County and Accies.

Things could be better, sure, but they're not desperate for us. Yet!

It's scottish football in general is the main cause of this, not only clubs but also the national team. If they were to get past the qualifying stages more people would most likely become interested in the sport again. The SPFL needs a complete reshuffle as right now its a shambles.

So it comes back to the Clubs. The what used to be known as the SPL Clubs, including our own should have all power they hold to shape the game removed from them.

It's telling that, although we've never been great in the professional era we (Scotland/Scottish Clubs) could match anyone on any given match day.

Then those clubs who thought they knew best decided Fuck everyone else we're doing it our way. And ever since then they've gone from failure to failure

As for MDE need the Clubs to begin before the match begins, get the SPFL to sit down with ScotRail, First Bus, Stagecoach, local eateries... Improve transport links as a game can take place any day of the week.
