Was able to go back to bed after the final whistle. Probably did me good to get a couple of hours sleep. Disappointed with the way it went obviously. Unfortunately we lost goals at bad times and the game was pretty much over when the second one went in. Cannot agree with anyone putting the boot into McHugh. The guy looked utterly dejected. At our level you win as a team and you lose as a team. Also felt that, while we did improve when Bigi came on, he benefitted from the state of the game at the time. Celtic had taken the foot off the gas and the midfield opened up nicely for him to show his abilities. Absolutely no guarantee that he could have done that from the outset. Cannot fault them on effort and attitude. as I sat watching, alone in the dark at 2am on a cold Kiwi morning, trying to ignore the shite commentary on BEIN sport’s covera, I was sure I heard the applause at 19 minutes for the lad who passed away a day or so before the final. I felt a shiver down my spine and stood for a moment, holding my late father’s scarf just a little tighter. At the end of the game, watching their players and support celebrate, I immediately realised that I could never support a team like that. If you are a Motherwell fan, you are in it for the long haul. No religion, no politics, no “we won and that makes me better than you because you lost”. Just a sense of the place from where we or our families came from and a love of the game and trying to play it the right way. Today my team gave their all and behaved with dignity when it wasn’t enough to win the prize. I can live with that. And so the story continues.5 points

Leave politics out of it. The well has been poisoned already by the Ugly Sisters. Scottish football is the worse for it, and has been so for yonks. For those who have chosen to disparage MFC on here today, I have seen far more talented teams (from 1962 onwards) who have never even sniffed a SCF, so think again, Poindexters. We have a young manager and a young squad who will learn much from today: I've bought my season and am looking forward to next season already, damn my happy-clapper hide. Our trolls can swivel, imho.5 points

Ok then lads, exactly who is signing Bigi and Carson as you both are apparently "in the know!" Thats the main thing that gets on my tits at this time of year , "Player A is away, heard it here first" Aye? Well why dont you enlighten us? Either substantiate your claims or stfu, its tedious4 points

Most people in England are the same as most people in Scotland, decent hard working individuals with the same values. When I moved up from Yorkshire 20 years ago I was told all sorts of prejudiced nonsense about life in Scotland, it was all obviously rubbish.4 points

I personally thought the rendition of Flower of Scotland was a tad embarrassing. The Celtic Palestine display was also cringe worthy as politics should be kept out of football. No doubt they will face a fine from the SFA.4 points

Don't have an issue with the Palestine stuff either. They're not to be commended for it but saying it's wrong purely because "it's politics and football!" is a bit daft. Also I wonder if those that claim football and politics should be kept apart took part in the national anthem and the "wrong fuckin country" chant yesterday (the latter of which was an embarrassment).3 points

We were beaten by Robinson's tactics. Two up front and and out numbered in the middle of the park. A Grimshaw, McHugh and Campbell midfield is never going to be able to take the pressure of the defence. Individually I thought the players did ok. Campbell and Carson were outstanding. Kipre was very good. Dunne was his usual self with great defending and terrible passing. Hopefully we use the money from these runs to bring in some footballers and open up a bit so we are better to watch next season. The worst bit of the day was when I noticed Petracvicuis warming up..... The people who are raging about the Gaza protest would probably have raging about a Free Nelson Mandela protest in the 80s.3 points

We were beaten by two very good goals and a Celtic team that are head and shoulders above any other team in Scotland.2 points

Having worked down there and up here I can assure you that there are as many roasters up here as there are in England - a fair section of the knuckle dragging OF fans for a start.2 points

It's also much better to have been involved in today's game as our last of the season than to be involved in Sunday's game as our last of the season.2 points

I’ve been to jereusalem through work and have been purposely shown both sides of the coin. I assure you, none of the people I met would give a fuck about Celtic or Motherwell football club or a Scottish national sporting trophy. I have also as part of my work coordinated campaigns which have included protests, marches, demonstrations and lobbying. In order to gain credibility for any campaign, there are optimum times, places, methods and people to deliver key messages. That today was not one of them. That was nothing more than a bunch of bigots showing themselves up.2 points

A post like that deserves rebuke. Well beaten today no doubt but gulf in wages and resources is huge. Not a happy clapper just a realist. Love my team and proud of what we have achieved this season.2 points

A deflating day, although I must admit, my disappointment eased a touch having gone back to Fir Park after the game for a bit. It was nice to be around like minded souls. Obvious stuff but the game was won and lost in the first half. It was just such a disappointing first half performance from us. I think just about everyone bought into in the air of assurance and confidence that all at the club were showing beforehand but I think that just made the tentative and hesitant performance in the opening half hurt all the more. We performed much more creditably in the second half but Celtic obviously had the two goal cushion and had no real requirement to push on at that stage. If Bigi's free-kick had gone in or Cadden's header gone in or even veered further in the direction of Frear, who knows how the last few minutes might have panned out but the better team won and on this occasion we only have ourselves and not Craig Thomson or any official to blame this time. I think there's definitely a debate to be had about where we stand currently and what we need to do to progress and move forward but are those few minutes after full time when the rawness after a Cup Final loss is at it's greatest the time for that? Or when some of the contributions smack of capitalising on an opportunity to air negative opinions when morale has taken a hit. Rather than any perceived failing on the support I actually thought that most waiting around to applaud the team after the game and when they got their medals reflected well on us. A fact remarked upon by one or two in the media and some of the opposition support. I've seen loads of finals where the losers have fucked off pronto but I think it's to our credit as a support that we've sucked up the results of the League Cup and Scottish Cup Finals and hung around to show appreciation to the team. It can surely only enhance the rapport between the players and supporters and be viewed as a positive when attempting to attract or retain players. So, a disappointing end to the season without question but undoubtedly a season that's been a success on so many levels be that the improvement in league position, the success we've achieved in Cup competitions that have been so coveted and are so valuable to the club financially. But the club's Twitter account is right, it doesn't end here. It can't end here. A success it has been but there remains a fairly high ceiling in the league for improvement, an opportunity to expand upon to the style or at least add a variety to the type of football played and of course we will always retain aspirations of lifting silverware again (oh for the fortune of playing a non-Old Firm side in the Final again!) I'll be renewing the season ticket next week!!2 points

So at the time of writing we know... IN Nobody confirmed as yet OUT Luke Watt, Nadir Cifti (loan return) and Stephen Hendrie (loan return) CONTRACT EXTENSIONS Charles Dunne, Cedric Kipre, Ryan Bowman, Richard Tait, Andy Rose, Liam Grimshaw and James Scott. And probably others I've forgotten about. Close season now open for business...1 point

First time i have posted on here in a long time but considering it was cup final day yesterday I thought i’d pop in. First off, what a day oot. Meeting so many people I hadn’t seen for a long time and enjoying a pint with them was a big plus point, also the seeth that I encountered from Celtic fans outside the ground made me chuckle considering how dominant they are domestically right now (much like the Rangers fans in the 90s early 00s). The game itself was pretty grim. The one thing I always ask of Motherwell is give it 100% and I don’t think we got that. I always expect to be outplayed by Celtic but they actually outfought us which was disappointing. We made Boyata look like Maldini at times and that daftie Brown strolled the game despite the best efforts of Campbell who tried his best all game. Grimshaw has been great the last couple of months but didn’t really turn up and the less said about McHugh the better. It wasn’t solely his fault but jesus christ he had a nightmare ! All in all a very good Motherwell season, just need to look at Partick to see how quickly things can turn sour so all we can do is enjoy the good days while we have them. A couple of shrewd signings could see us hopefully push on for top 6 and i could very much get used to the regular Hampden trips so here’s hoping the progression continues. SIWY1 point

The downside to these epic journeys back for a final is the long, sad traipse home after the wrong result. I was looking forward to wearing the colours in celebration but you know what, I'm wearing them just as proudly in defeat - and it's amazing how many folk I've met so far en route who fucking hate Celtic ;-) SIWY1 point

Campbell and bowman worked hard and did well yesterday and I appreciate the game may have been gone by half time but the game only came to life for me was when Bigi came on. I thought he was excellent and controlled the midfield. He’s a talented wee guy who probably hasn’t had enough chances this year.1 point

I just find it all a bit daft, as I say go and ask the average Celtic fan about the history of the conflict and they will not have a clue. It’s not that have a genuine understanding and passion to see change, it’s all false and postering because the cameras are there.1 point

That's fair enough but why do you think everyone else should be the same? And I can't see why it would stop you watching the game. If we had been a couple of goals ahead no one would have cared.1 point

I've seen Hartley's named mentioned as Captain a few times. He's definitely a leader on the park but there's far more to the role than firing the players up on a Saturday. I honestly think he's a wee bit too mental for it.1 point

Stayed after the final whistle and didn't take my eyes off the Motherwell players, staff & fans. Never looked in the direction of anyone wearing any other colour than claret & amber. Proud of my club.1 point

I waited until all our players had their medals same as last time ,but was well out of there before Celtic climbed steps .1 point

Couldn't agree more. For all the concerns about day trippers and part time fans dampening the atmosphere, yesterday was raucous and had an energy through the full 90 minutes. It was night and day from 2011. It's been a two way thing. Fantastic effort from the fans (well boys in particular) however there's a few people at our club who deserve credit in creating this connection - Steven Robinson , who has brought in players with a mentality that the fans respond to, and Alan Burrows and the media team who simply get what it is to be a Motherwell fan.1 point

You're right of course. Hence the reason for my very deliberate "others I've forgotten" get out of jail card... In truth Aldred fitted in so seamlessly and approached his time at Motherwell in such a professional and committed fashion that, not for the first time, I actually forgot he was just on loan. It's the way of the game these days that loan moves are so common but whether through level of performance or for the way they've "got" our club some live in the memory longer than others. He's perhaps not quite Ruddy or Jutkiewicz English Premiership/Championship level of quality but he's right up in that bracket of terrific loan signings. Hope we can make it a permanent deal over the summer.1 point

Two qualities we need to improve on is quality and pace. A Marvin Johnstonesque forward/winger playing alongside Main/Bowman might allow for a bit more creativity from the likes of Bigi, Cadden and Turnbull. Regardless how long Carson and Kipre remain, I think we all know there will be another keeper, left sided defender and striker.1 point

The biggest name missing off your list is Aldred (loan return). Petravicius contract ended - doubt it will be extended.1 point

I’m calling utter bullshit on that. Killed by whom? “Palestine”?! Do you mean the Gaza Strip?1 point

I'm discounting Bigi as the game was gone by the time he came on. Even then I can still acknowledge he did spray the ball about well and showed a bit of composure others were lacking, but you got the feeling Celtic had several gears to move up if they needed to. Personally I though Bowman was our best player. He showed some neat touches and linked up well. Usually made the most of his time on the ball and never stopped running all afternoon.1 point

It's amazing what 30 minutes of purple against a team shifting down into third gear does for someone's standing. He was one of the first signings made and came with a lot of expectation. I had high hopes as did many as what he would bring. He hasn't featured either due to other players fitting Robinsons mould/style better or he hasn't done enough in his limited chances/training to justify a start. I think if he was bringing the goods week in week out like Campbell, Carson or Main there would be no debate. I take no joy in his indifferent first season and I'm sure he hoped for more too, but being a glimmer of sunshine in a overcast day does not justify the new love/lets look at him again chat. 8 or 9 players in the current squad have had extensions or renewals before today ..... maybe consider that.1 point

gutted but 2nd half we gave it our best. I aint going to criticise any players, ye maybe some were off form but they tried their best. However what I will say is some of our fans need to get a grip . Some of the songs being sung on way to park were an embarrassment. Tell you what if you want to sing sectarian and bigoted songs then go and follow the old firm and stay away from Fir Park.1 point

I don't disagree with what you are saying however, it is one rule for them and another for everyone else.1 point

I don't really care what their political views are, but whether one agrees with them or not, there's a time and a place to air them and the Scottish Cup Final isn't it. Fitba' is what you watch to forget all that stuff for an hour or two every week.1 point

One day we will inevitably return to being knocked out of both cups in early rounds by rival teams (and the odd lower league upset) and we'll look back to this season with fondness and go back to yearning for trips to Hampden, but anyone moaning about our cup efforts this season has no right to moan about a lack of cup runs when that day happens. Extremely proud of the players, fans and the club today and for the season as a whole.1 point

Felt better about this game than in November behforehand, sadly when you let a team with better players stroke the ball from left to right outside your 18 yard box with impunity looking for a hole or mistake then you are gonna get punished. The gulf in the two squads is massive both in terms of playing budget (20x or there abouts) and composure. When we get into trouble and under pressure we hoof it out or up the park. They do on occasion too, but inevitably there is a guy in green & white standing waiting on it or able to challenge to retain possession. I can't feel that bad about today's game compared with the League Cup as they beat us reasonably fairly, Brown still waltz's through games with a "Whit me?" puppy dog look every time a referee looks at him. I think rather than Bigi making a difference, I put it down to Celtic taking their foot off the gas. We can beat Celtic on individual player fitness or desire but not on footballing ability as money does talk. Overall, fantastic season from where we were and personnel we brought in. Achieved much more than I expected and coffers are full even if the trophy cabinet isn't.1 point

Thought we performed reasonably, game was killed by two decent goals. A let down but nothing embarassing. Up against the financial and institutional establishment, it'll be tough until something changes. What was the thing about Hamas? I have to say I was embarrassed by some of the foaming at the mouth bigots around me in the well end, nazi salutes in particular. The palestine thing is virtue signalling wankery, trying to tribalise a serious issue, but some of the sleberring it provoked in our end was just as shite1 point
