The defence has been a shambles and clearly at fault game in, game out. But, and this is the thing. Kelly has also managed to throw a fair few into his own net this season. Maybe partly feart or affected by the shitshow infront of him, but there is no way he can be absolved of blame this season. He really has been a shaddow of the keeper we had in his first year.

I find the whole Kelly debate quite boring. Theres too many posters with entrenched positions digging in for the long haul rather than engaging with any meaningful debate. Kelly was a good keeper once. He hasnt been for some time. He doesnt come of his line which leaves us vulnerable at set pieces and his distribution is awful. He is far from the worst keeper we've ever had, but also far from the best. Looks like he is signing for Rangers and we can get his rather substantial wages off the wage bill. Might free up some money for better defenders to better protect the next incumbent.

Why are we mugs? We got one good season and one unbelievable season out of him then a big transfer fee. I'd take him back no bother. He's a confidence player and he likes it here. We would be mad not to do it if his wages are realistic. It's not like he's been shite at Killie he just hasn't played. 218 minutes over 13 sub appearances.

He's still contracted elsewhere and he'll be returning there.

I don't think there's any doubting Turnbull's ability. I believe it's more to do with his laid back style of play and lethargic body language at times. It was clear from the beginning that he was never going to fit into a Postecoglu side with the mantra of "we never stop". I just don't think he displays the energy required to play at the top.

Another guy who needs to kick start his career. Just hope it's not back in Scotland at one of the usual suspects.

Unless Clark, Gunn or Gordon are kidnapped, Kelly will be dropped. I'm disappointed that Johnston didn't at least make the provisional squad, but it was obvious that Clarke would choose Ralston and McCrorie ahead of him. It's a shame about Turnbull, who's done nothing since joining Cardiff.

On the Kelly subject he’s played for us for a bit im not convinced he was the worst but far from the best. I don’t think it’s a position we should have much trouble covering. We need a defence and a midfield however. I do hope that Kettlewell signs some wide attackers as well I sometimes think we need to change our shape up or at least give ourselves the option to change it up.

Rangers want Kelly to be their back up goal keeper because it gives them extra players in their European squad due to him coming through their academy. The Celtic story that was planted will just have been to make it palatable to Rangers fans when they sign him ie 'he can't be that bad if Celtic were looking at him as well'.

Not impossible given that we found ourselves in a diminishing returns scenario with Kelly this season.

We do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time talking about how shite all our players are.... For context not saying everyone does it but it's been a bit miserable on here this day for some reason.

Anyone claiming he’s the worst we’ve ever had is talking nonsense. He has been a decent servant to the club and helped us out of a sticky patch during the covid season. He had an excellent first 18 months with the club. His form has since fallen off a cliff and in my opinion he’s been lucky to keep his place in our starting 11. Hope he has a shite time at Rangers.

You understand that a goalkeeper's saves often result from the situations and positions created by the defence, right? Just like how a keeper's command of the box during set pieces can influence the defence's response? It's very difficult to evaluate a goalkeeper or his statistics in isolation without considering the defence in front of him, and the same goes for evaluating many aspects of the defence without considering the goalkeeper's role.

It's unquestioned that the defence has been shit this season and that Kelly has had great spells for us over his several seasons. However, it's complete denial to suggest that he's not been poor at times and that he's not had a part to play in only keeping three clean sheets this season. I don't care who he gets offers from or how much he's paid; all I am saying is that his record this season is shit.

He was a major part of a defence which kept 3 clean sheets in 41 games. He's not good enough and we need the wages for new players. Age is undefeated. If it wasn't Tommy Coyne and Faddy would still be playing for us.
