  1. Set us back light years?! Sorry, but that’s a lot of hyperbolic bollocks. If anything, this debacle has highlighted the need for the existence of the Well Society and has proven that fan ownership works in the longterm interests of the Club. With competent stewardship, appropriate and mutually beneficial investment will come. And I think we can all agree that McMahon has not been a competent steward of the Club towards the end. As you say, it’s now the Well Society’s turn. Give the new Board a break and the chance they’ve earned.

  2. I've seen three games now where we have barely created any chances and there's no sign the manager is going to change anything. On Saturday we created nothing against a Junior level side and his response was to put out an even more negative starting line up. Kettlwell doesn't have a clean slate. I've seen people say we scored a lot of goals last season but the fact is that the majority of them were late on when we were chasing the game and throwing bodies forward. Our starting line up and tactics were guff most games. He was talking about being comfortable at 1 nil last night. Does he even know that we only won 1 league game out of the full season 1 nil? We are never comfortable at 1 nil on the rare occasions we actually score first and we definitely shouldn't playing for a 1 nil against part timers.

  3. You've literally not seen some of them play. None of us have. And turn us around from what? Being a top level side that almost always gets out the group stages of the league cup? You need to relax. Let events unfold and when players are actually fit and the squad is finalised and we've got a round of fixtures in, then you start looking at it. Sure, it's a possibility we'll be utter mince and bottom of the league but it's no more a possibility than us being middling or even being around the Top 6. However all three are speculation right now based on factors you can't possibly foresee or know and in your case it's speculation with a built in negativity and bias. Just let the season happen first. Then you can present a case on actually facts and context.

  4. I did read McMahon's CV at the time he was appointed. It was certainly good, but not the most impressive I've seen. Although I'm an computer geek by profession, my work has brought me into contact with many business people at many levels, including some that work in Mergers and Acquisitions. There is a huge difference between running a business day-to-day and negotiating a takeover deal, and in my experience, that's the time to bring in the experts. McMahon definitely did not appear to be someone with experience in those kinds of deals.

  5. I concur. For those dismissive, go and scratch the surface and you’ll find there’s a world of difference to your outlook.

  6. Yes I did and and I was not that impressed by it … … But wether you admit it or not we need outside investment With the best will in the world our fan base will not creat the financial sustainability going forward. As I said in earlier post getting businesses to commit to sponsorship is a different ball game from getting them to commit to investment. There has to be some give from WS going forward or we will never get inward investment in the club. This debacle has set this back light years in my opinion. What investor is going to come anywhere near us know. WS have to stop talking the talk and show us that they can walk the walk … … it will be interesting going forward. Every other club in the league apart from us and St Mirren have a major outside investor who are the major shareholder of the club.

  7. I did at the time he was appointed and similarly to @weeyin, it was ... fine and he made sense as an appointment. Perhaps not for the best part of 10 years, though. I think there will absolutely be people who are just as qualified (perhaps more so) within our support/sphere of influence to provide the expertise required as a chairperson of the Club. Personally, I would advocate for that person to be an independent appointment moving forward; so someone without direct links/ties to the Well Society and the Club side of things; to me it's important that if they have the casting vote, they're able to do so with complete neutrality based on what's presented to them. I'll flip the question to you, as well; did you take the time to check out Erik Barmack's business CV, rather than his content creation/creative one? Because it's severely lacking any kind of business acumen, aside from starting Wild Sheep Productions and having an MBA from 20+ year ago.

  8. We still have about 6 first team contenders that haven't kicked a ball yet and some that aren't at a fitness level to start matches. I don't agree with the notion that you should treat these games as pre-season friendlies but you have to take into consideration that it is July. Players simply won't be anywhere near match day levels until August. We need players in but there is loads of time to do that and I'd rather wait and bring in the right person than rush a signing in to play against Clyde.

  9. It's not just about that. We should be looking to get a seeded place which common sense tells you this season will likely require 12 points and good goal difference. Last season he was greeting about Kevin Clancy blowing a few minutes early in a game because of our goal difference. This season he wasted full two games where we should have been racking up goals because he wants to do a Steve Clarke impresonation for some reason.

  10. There can be no excuses for not beating Montrose tonight with the blame lying at the managers door . 1 up front and a midfield that never made a chance all game is a big problem . Need plenty changes on Saturday but I don’t think the manager will do that

  11. If he scored us say 15 goals I could cope with that.

  12. Worst season ever! Stick on for relegation! SK OUT! Every player is absolute garbage! Bring back Theo! It's still pre-season! Good to get more minutes in the legs! We'll still win our group! (copy and paste to your favourite social media feed, then take your pick...)

  13. Realise that giving actual amounts might not be possible but it would be good publicity to even be told how much it's gone up in percentage terms. All adds to the feelgood factor.

  14. You won't get a figure of how much DD's have increased. These things are variable and it be mad to announce they are getting £7000 a month more or whatever

  15. Purely on that measure alone, you are probably correct, however our fan base if properly motivated to maximise as many members as it can, develop new revenue streams etc will enable the WS to step up and become more hands on if you like to ensure proper governance at the club going forward. This will ensure that any future investment offers will be considered in a much better position for the club than the shambles of recent weeks. I was never a fan of the WS for various reasons but I will probably now sign up and commit to see if real fan ownership can be realised

  16. Have you read the thread regarding the POD stand ???

  17. Your right they’ve put forward their proposals /arguments and deserve the chance to put them into place It’s one thing putting them down on a bit of paper and a completely different proposition delivering them. I wish them all the luck in the world … … future of the club may well depend on that happening.

  18. Jim McMahon's business CV is largely irrelevant. His decision making on this specific offer was very poor to say the least. There appears to have been little or no due diligence undertaken, no sanity check on the numbers, almost no engagement with the majority shareholder (The 'Well Society), lot's of "we are the Executive Board and therefore we know everything and you serfs know nothing", not taking into consideration the £millions in assets we have / had in Bair and Miller when presenting the numbers. All of the above tells me more than any CV. I've been in business for 40 years and never witnessed an Executive Board trying to tell the majority shareholders that they are basically too thick to make an educated decision. Have you checked John Boyle's business CV? On paper it looked great - until he got out of his depth and nearly took MFC down with him. History nearly repeating itself. Congratulations to The 'Well Society for a famous victory.

  19. I'd also point out that running a football club is very different from running a traditional business for many reasons. Being good at running a bank at a profit for the benefit of shareholders is not the same as running a football club for the benefit of the community. That's why many clubs with experienced businessmen at the helm can still struggle.

  20. Well I am one of the names on the post card and frankly less interested in his business cv, more interested in MFC cv and his performance for MFC. I might have a great cv as a road sweeper but would never make chairman of a football club. No disrespect to road sweepers intended Football managers go to interviews with great cv's., why are so many sacked ? Because it is what you put in in practice not on paper.

  21. Well, aye, of course? We rarely pay significant fees. Anything we do pay will likely be paying up a player's contract and not much more. That won't take up "much" of Bair's fee.

  22. Just going to say this folks......this time last year we had signed Bair and forum was on meltdown. Roll on a year and we have sold him for an amazing fee. Basically I am saying let's all relax and see how we are sitting once new players settle in and we add a few faces. And let's not start singling out players again......Paton seems to be the next target but giving him stick ain't gonna help. COYW

  23. Well our seedlings essentially gone so If we get through the group top we’ve the old firm or Killie or st Mirren to look forward to. It’s a simple matter to me that we’re a premiership side and we should be winning these games comfortably. I’d have took 1-0 and been quite happy but that was an appalling result

  24. Window doesn't close for 6 weeks. Players aren't up to speed and won't be until we are into the league season. Bit early for knicker wetting. How about we agree to wait until, say, November?

  25. Oh give it a rest, we all know you don’t like SK, you don’t need to keep going on and on about it

  26. Hopefully this is a wake up for the moron in the dugout. Paton, SOD, Halliday and Davor are all lower league shite.

  27. Regardless of what the society do, the current investment offer was not a good one. Hopefully better ones will come along but if not, I believe we have still taken the correct path by getting rid of this proposal.

  28. The worrying thing for me is that our executive board actually thought the Wild Sheep proposal was a good one. McMahon, Feeney and Dickie have a lot of questions to answer.
    1 point
  29. I was hoping for a more teary eyed statement from McMahon but that will do. Blaming division in the support when the support is overwhelmingly united in being against the proposal is bullshit. Especially when they've called it off because they've done a Ruth Davidson and took a peek at the shareholder votes and seen they are getting a kicking. It's time for McMahon, Dickie and Feeley to go.

  30. They are already implementing some of the plan like talking to potential investors. My point is that it won't be transformational and as fans we are unlikely to notice any difference.
    1 point
  31. I don't think anyone is expecting them to be doing the latter, stop being so fucking condescending. The Society absolutely has to start acting on its own proposal; they're already doing that based on their statement here as they're talking with Caldwell about next steps etc. We also all need to step up, too, as fans. The Society recognises the Club needs backing and that we need to do better raising funds to support it, so if we can, we should be upping our restarting our contributions just like @wellfan. It's not time for any of us to sit still and say "they'll deal with it, it'll be fine." Nope. It's time for us to be the ones making the difference, however we can.

  32. What kind of action are you expecting to see? If the Well Society was able to match Barmack's funding by putting £300,000 a year into the club it's not going to be noticeable to us as fans. Continued stability is the priority not doing stupid things like investing £4m into a crackpot business plan just to be seen to be doing something.

  33. Get it right up ya McMahon, get to fuck and take all your cronies that tried to sell the club down the river with you.

  34. Exactly no excuses now time to put words into actions none of this it’s over swept under the carpet let’s just plod along as before.
    1 point
  35. Time for the Society board to step up then! Fans will get behind them but only for so long...done plenty of talking since the proposal from Barmack came to the table, now it's time for action.
