Well aye, that’s also a point. An Instagram story of a Bobby Sands mural followed by one of King Billy doesn’t suggest any political leanings but that doesn’t suit the narrative. If you wanted to dig up political posts from today, they could have highlighted when I was critical of the Scottish Government on rail fares but again, maybe that doesn’t suit the narrative. If we’re going to talk about club representatives being political; Jim McMahon appeared on BBC Question Time (or maybe it was Debate Night) whilst he was in the role. He was also pictured campaigning for Scottish Labour whilst Chairman. I should add that I’ve absolutely no issue with that whatsoever, but it’s worth highlighting. Is it that we don’t want people associated with the club posting about politics or we don’t want them posting about politics that you don’t agree with?8 points

The idea that if your on the Well Society board you need to be politically neutral is daft. It's not the fucking BBC or the Royal Family. You should have took a leaf out the Ulster men's book and put up a Loyalist candidate.5 points

I saw @Dee's social media posting. I saw he had murals and pics of both sides of the coin. Do you know what I thought of that? Nothing, I'm a grown up. FWIW politics is involved in everything we do. Football or otherwise.4 points

There's nothing better than someone starting a bit of a stramash only to respond with "end of story" when they get some push back.4 points

Since I am American and I lost the election, I feel only fair to call it rigged and stolen election. Trump would be proud. LOL. I am clearly joking for those who dont get the joke.4 points

Nice to see a couple of bigots have outed themselves tonight. Keep up the good work, Derek.3 points

I'd argue that Les Hutchison saved out club and helped structure it for a healthy future; and I'll always be grateful for that. I'm 100% sure his politics are very different from mine.2 points

Whilst I agree with a fair bit of your post, I don't agree that politics and football should mix. Can I ask if you'd vote for a "right wing" candidate who posted their legal, as opposed to illegal, views online, if they didn't let them affect their Society work/views and would do a good job or has done a good job for the Society? Personally, I couldn't give a toss what someone's politics are, providing they're legal and they don't let them affect any Society/club work. In such a case, like Derek, its what they have done for the Society or would do for the Society that would determine my vote. Toy drives and food banks? For some it might be political but for others, like me, its never entered my head. No ulterior motives. It just seems like a good thing to do; no more no less.2 points

I'll ask the obvious question then. Given that you seem to have been selective in the photos you chose to post, could you clarify whether you and your pals would have reacted similarly had he posted photos only representing the other side of the divide? And why did you not show those other ones? The answer to those questions might tell us more about you and your mates than it does about Derek.2 points

It's not even that political. Millions of people have taken the Belfast mural tours, 13 million people voted for Corbyn for PM. It's fairly tame stuff.2 points

Interesting responses here. I probably shouldn’t need to reply, but whilst on a trip to Belfast where I’ve visited both sides of the community and shared photos of both on my personal Instagram, it’s quite telling that the poster above has only lifted one’s from one side. To suggest that either offers political opinion is simply note true.2 points

I suppose the acid test would be if a player posted such sentiments. How would our support react? Would it adopt a philosophical approach and shrug its shoulders or would there be an outcry? An interesting comparison might be Cammy MacPherson at St Johnstone.2 points

Derek is a bell end as his current social media Bobby Sands love in shows Divisive , stupid and shows that he cares more about his own politics than the success of the 'Well society but tbf he isnt the only one on the board that applies to I've spoken to a number of people that have parked their subs over concerns about the current board , this forum echochamber can laud them til the cows come home however the vote turn out speaks for itself IMO in regards to where the swell of the support sees the society and the confidence that it has in it at present2 points

We get it, but don't you be storming Fir Park, wrecking the offices, furniture and getting your picture taken on the managers chair. 🤣2 points

Well done to everyone that was elected and here’s to a prosperous future for the ‘Well Society!2 points

When people say that we should tap into the US market, how do they propose we do that? And also, unless there's a family connection to the club, why would anyone from the US really be interested in Motherwell? Sure, there are soccer fans in North America, but they all have their own local clubs, and like the rest of the world, outside of that they have plenty of ways to access the English Premier League etc. It would be like a US team along the lines of Syracuse FC, FC MIlwaukee, or the Minnesota Blizzard looking to tap into the British market. Why would anyone here give a toss about those clubs?1 point

Agreed. I joined one of the workstreams and found that I couldn't commit to the times (my problem, not theirs), would be cool to have a US based thing. I also would like to get on the radio show and see how long it would take Sirius to ban me.1 point

Listen I’ve seen in Derek’s living room window. He’s got a tricolour rug right in front of the tele. Enough is enough.1 point

I voted for you and honestly I really hope a lot of consideration is given to how we can engage fans from the US.1 point

Also - and this will be the hill I die on. Don't out people like this and plaster their socials all over a forum to try and turn other people against them . (it's horrible)1 point

Welcome to the American/living in America contingent of 'well fans. We'll be bigger than the East of Scotland branch soon enough.1 point

Football and politics have been intertwined from pretty much day one, and people should be able to express their views, whether political or otherwise, on social media should they wish. You can choose not to follow the person, or choose not to be triggered by it.1 point

I'll guess we'll just need to see what happens. Given that he's just been re-elected it doesn't seem to be a problem with a good number of Society members.1 point

Derek isn't a paid club member though. Cammy also retweeted something in support of Tommy Robinson. I assume that SPL clubs have rules around social media posts - I'd be surprised if the well society do. Otherwise you risk people being censured for posts they are posting on their own social media. (Maybe not explained that very well but I'd be very surprised if someone who was known for being political would stop tweeting about politics just because they are a well society board member)1 point

A turnout of less than 25% is poor, are the other 75% not interested, don't care etc. If the WS is to step up after the Barmack episode then it's the disillusioned 75% that they need to appeal to.1 point

It's their business model. If they mention the Old Firm it'll get promoted by social media algorithms and push notifications. It's all about clicks and advertising.1 point

Congratulations to those elected/re-elected. 4 strong candidates. I sympathise with those who missed out as there were some very strong candidates there. Hopefully their expertise can be put to good use maybe by co-opting them onto the Board. It's an onerous task even for a full complement of 9.1 point

That's three strong additions to the board as well as Derek staying on. Hopefully the people that missed out will still be able to contribute.1 point

Can’t believe it’s anything to do with damage to seats, it’s not like the fans will think oh it’s the top tier so we won’t smash up the seats.1 point

You're assuming that he was going to do a straight swap, but that's not how it works when you lose 7 or 8 first team players. Under those circumstances you need to rebuild and adjust to the styes of the new players. Stuperavic is, apparently, a number 10 and was one of the signings intended to add to our creativity. If you cast your mind back to when Spittal joined the club, he was roundly slagged off by a large number of fans as being useless. He obviously wasn't, but he became the player he was partly through coaching. Any replacement is going to go through the same coaching process. Fans tend to forget that one of the key jobs of the coaching staff is to develop players.1 point

Maswanhise for me, he changed the game when he came on. SOD, McGinn & Wilson all played well as did the Ox. Miller continues to impress, several turns that gave him acres of space, I don't think we will be able to hold on to him for too much longer. If there was an option for whoever coached them to keep a hold of the ball from our own throw-ins I may have voted for him/her, I haven't seen us manage to do that so often for years.1 point
