  1. This is the major reason I'm against VAR. The whole point of football is the joy of scoring a goal. That's what everything else builds up to. That has totally been taken away now. As for decision making I don't think much has actually changed. Mistakes get made with or without VAR. We all lived without it for pretty much our whole lives and somehow we still managed to love the game. It's entirely geared towards televised football.

  2. Rodgers clearly been looking for a way out. Desmond certainly hasn't minced his words.

  4. That’s true we never seem to get that slice of luck that others have got when it comes to finals and avoiding one of the Old Firm Saying that though of the list of winners you mentioned there a good few of them had to face and of course beat one of them on the way to their cup wins. St.Johnstone knocked out Rangers in the QF in 2021, ICT beat Celtic in the Semis, Dundee Utd beat Rangers in the Quarters of the Scottish Cup and St.Mirren defeated Celtic in the League Cup semis in the year they won it against Hearts in the final. A lot of our exits over the years have tended to come against non OF sides and indeed many of them have been against utter dross who we really should have beaten. The year Dundee Utd won the Scottish cup against Ross County (2010) we whimpered out against a then lower league ICT in the first hurdle. When St.Johnstone won the 2014 Scottish Cup we were embarrassed by Albion fucking Rovers in the 4th Round. And even when St.Mirren won the League Cup in 2013, while we did lose to Rangers in the 3rd Round, they were Rangers in name only, literally, as they had just reformed as a new club and playing in the lowest tier and we shat the bed despite us being unbeaten and top of the league at the time we played them. They say you need luck to win a Cup and that is true, but you need to make your own luck too and we really haven’t helped ourselves over the years.

  5. Imagine winning a final against either of them though? I can’t think of anything better.

  6. I think that was superseded by the red card for the "obvious goal scoring opportunity" and its various criteria. I can't remember the exact wording for the (relatively new) yellow card "tactical" foul, but it's something to do with stopping an attack rather than a goal. EDIT: found the IFAB Law 12 wording about the yellow card commits any other offence which interferes with or stops a promising attack

  7. Oh I didn't notice that, well maybe we will get nearer the 9000 mark🤞

  8. Well we've 14 goals off 32 shots on target which is pretty decent but there are a few penalties in there. EDIT - Also don't forget all the shots that weren't on target! 🤣

  10. There’s more to the VAR problem than inconsistent interventions and questionable decisions. It disrupts the live match experience to the point where fans can’t even celebrate goals in the moment, because every goal now comes with a long pause while everyone waits to see if it actually counts. It’s sucking the joy out of the game and, at the end of the day, money talks. If this carries on, fans will talk with their feet, and once they start staying away, it will be very hard to get them back. Club chairmen need to act quickly and come together to get rid of this shite before the damage is permanent.

  11. I detest VAR as it is operated in Scotland. The delay it causes to the games is farcical and communication is a joke. The dilemma is that for every 'Said non goal' there is a 'Nick Walsh no handball'. So if we do away with VAR we have to accept the incompetence of our referees and accept whatever they throw at us. The wee baldy linesman that chalked off a perfectly good goal against Rangers at Fir Park all those years ago still haunts me. The biggest criticism I have this season is that errors appear to have increased in number, and not decreased as should be expected as systems bed in. Willie Collum will deny that is the case though. Would I detest VAR if it was operated properly, with competent officials and proper technology with cost not a factor? Probably not.

  12. Var has no place in the modern game, all this clear and obvious error pish they keep spouting is nonsense. The ref last Saturday saw nothing wrong in the lead up to Saids goal, he was a few yards away with a great view so no clear or obvious error so why were VAR even involved ffs. They are actively looking for reasons to disallow goals, how Far do you go back in a passage of play etc. As for the offside yesterday no lines shown due to the bargin basement system we have in Scotland, so they basically guessed it was offside, with no conclusive proof. The whole system needs binned ASAP, but if the clubs dont stand up and start complaining nothing will change.

  14. I can’t stand Hearts but I am delighted for them as I just want someone to challenge and topple Celtic. I don’t think they are particularly great or great on the eye but one thing they are is robust. Every one of their players is solid and they are not a team who look like they’ll keel over. Every one of our players looks like they are one game away from a long term injury but Hearts are a different animal…. Really solid group.

  15. I’ll still be going because I’m a longstanding season ticket holder, but I think I’ll genuinely hesitate before renewing next season. VAR and the clowns running it have ripped every bit of spontaneity and enjoyment out of going to the football. It’s supposed to be entertainment, and instead we’re standing about waiting on decisions nobody in the ground can understand. We’re being taken for absolute mugs, and I’m sick of it.
