  1. The normal way of things is that the cup winner gets the best EL spot. A cup runner up get's the lowest EL spot.

Assuming the league finished today, the two scenarios would be :

    1) If Celtic win the cup:

    1. Celtic - CL Q Round 2
    2. Motherwell - EL Q Round 3
    3. Inverness - EL Q Round 2

    • Cup Runner up - EL Q Round 2

    2) If Anybody else wins the cup:

    1. Celtic - CL Q Round 2
    2. Motherwell - EL Q Round 2
    3. Inverness - EL Q Round 2

    • Cup Winner - EL Q Round 3

As for seeding, coming in in Q3, seeding would be unlikely. We would have a coefficient of 7.038 this year. Last year the lowest seed had a coefficient of 9.566.

In Q2, we would almost certainly be seeded, only 4.35 was needed last year.

Here are last years seedings for both rounds for an example:

  2. Do people from here actually watch any fitba outside of Scotland and Europes big teams? Levante are rotten and had a complete freak of a season last year. They are nowhere near the side that Pana are and there is no reason at all we cant give them a right good game.

I saw them a few times last year and was impressed.

As I said before hopefully their performance last year was a blip and we've actually drawn a weaker Spanish side.

By the day of the match I'll have convinced myself that we're going to give them a doing!

  3. Rotten draw.

Let's face it, I think most Motherwell fans accept that whoever we were paired with would have seen us soundly beaten but at least had we drawn a Bordeaux then there would be a little glamour attached to the game. As it is we've drawn one of the less fashionable sides from Spain who have never played in Europe before, yet they'll still give us a right good pasting over the two legs.

I doubt we'll see the same problems with queues to get in the East Stand and folk sitting in other people's seats for this game somehow.

I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with MJC.

In terms of finance and progression one of the worst draws available. In all likelyhood one of the hardest teams in the draw, but without the associated glamour. Sporting would have been both more glamourous and easier.

Hopefully people realise the size of the game and turn out in force, this mob finished 1 point behind Athletico Madrid last season. I hope that the club can market this well based on Levante's recent league performance as they have zero pedigree on the European stage.

On the up side, for those fortunate enough to be able to make the trip, this will be a fantastic jaunt!!!

  4. Normally I'd say that the best chance in progressing through matches like this is that the other team take a victory completely for granted.

Don't think there's any chance of this with Levante. With this being their first EVER european jaunt in their history, they'll be wound up to f**k.

This is the team that were above Real Madrid and Bareclona at the top of La Liga a quarter of the way through last season. I'm normally happy clappy, but I think we may get an absolute skelping here.

  5. Hearts do have a 1/5 chance of getting the easiest possible route to the group stages.

Anorthosis are bound to be thrown out, and Dila Gori would otherwise be nowhere near the seeded pot.

I don't think we have any winnable ties in that list.

Sporting for me though, Lisbon is a cracking city!

  6. I personally would drive Higdon and Murphy down south to any team offering 1.5 Mill for both....

Murphy - mentioned it a few times that he needs to make his next step in his development

Higdon - He is slower than my Gran in a wheelchair... never mind pish ball control....He is good in the air, protecting the ball and does a decent job for us, but Championship.....

I don't like how everybody seems to have bought into the sky sports hype that the Championship is a great league.

The majority of the league is made up of (overpaid) cloggers, Higdon would certainly not be among the worst.

  7. Up the Acropolis just now, what a heat but some crowd, we will need to get one of these Parthenon buildings for Motherwell, its embarrassing to invite these European fans over and only have the Civic Centre to show off.

Tell them they can keep their Acropolis,

We've got the big red tree

You just need to have money in your account and then go into in play betting, don't need to bet.

Thanks, wife can't make the game tonight so have to get it set up before heading out.

Just realised it's on bet fair as well, already have a fiver on Well through them so she can watch it there easy enough.

If as many season ticket holders as possible committed to additionally paying in to 1 game in the 2012 half of the season and 1 game in the 2013 half (the club could even nominate the games for publicity purposes), it could raise a pretty significant amount of money....

There were a few suggestions about this elsewhere, that we could do it on the games against "Club12" so home games against Dundee/Dunfermline.

Would be more than willing to do that.

  10. Have to echo the sentiments here. Motherwell have done everything right, found out via ballot exactly what the fans wanted them to do and did just that.

We were thankfully NOT involved on Doncaster's blackmail document (I have to apologise for losing the faith for a bit there) and did the right thing.

It's up the the SFL now to do the right thing as well but Motherwell FC have done as much as they can and we really need to make sure that our club doesn't suffer for acting in the manner that the vast majority of us have been advocating.

Straight away I'll be getting a few tickets for the CL game and buying the new top (obviously some of this cash will go to PSL but I've been holding back on getting it until today's outcome)

I'm seriously thinking of buying an extra season ticket for bringing along friends whenever I can, and upping the Well Society contribution to Claret. This will obviously take a good bit of regigging of finances so might not be straight away.

All ears to hear what other ways people think of to raise money that I can get on board with.

Just as I'm typing this, the wife says "bring back the wristbands!"

  11. Thanks to Flow and the club for the detailed post. We all know that the club can't possibly comment on every story, but when something so toxic comes along I think it is important that the fans know where the board stand, and I this case whether any were actually involved or complicit.

The document involved was a filthy threat, coming very close to bribery/blackmail. I'm very glad that we were not involved in it's production. Though the fact that Doncaster could distribute something so damaging to the SPL without the knowledge of the board is quite frankly ridiculous. He's been an embarrassment throughout this whole shambles and really should be getting his jotters.

There's no way that the SFL will agree to this proposal, and SPL2 won't get off the ground. We'll be without Rangers for a while as SFL3 is now the best that they can hope for (it's also what nearly everybody, including Gers fans have been calling out for the whole time).

We'll rally round, all hands to the pump, and get our club through this. So will fans of the other diddy clubs. Unlike some, we won't sit back and wait for a Whyte/Blue/Green/Brown knight in shining armour to show up and do it for us!!

  12. I actually can't believe this sh!t.

When you think that the SPL can't sink any lower, they pull this.

Basically the SPL are saying to the SFL clubs "You better put them into Div 1 OR ELSE!", threatening to break away, threatening an SPL2. It's so low, the thought that representatives of Motherwell FC might have been involved actually makes me feel physically sick.

I can't believe I started a thread the other day praising Motherwell, praising the SPL and trying to suggest various ways we could all chip in to ensure that they don't suffer financially for doing the right thing. While ALL ALONG, they were planning this behind the scenes. What they are planning now is actually rewriting practically all of Scottish football to suit "Rangers/SEVCO".

Safe in the knowledge that the club had done the right thing, my whole group have renewed season tickets. 8 in all. Because of how impressed I was with the club's handling of this, I was looking at buying the 1 seat that is left in our area as well. I was also looking at saving some money to upgrade my 'Well Society membership to the next level.

What is the deal with Season Tickets? can you get your money back??

If our club was involved in arranging this stitch up then I'll be looking to do just that. It was bought under false pretences

  13. Indeed. I'll be honest if it was me and Motherwell went belly up in a similar and very dodgy fashion, I'd be scunnered and totally finished with going to the fitba week in, week out. I'd attend the odd 'big' fixture that I could get tickets to/interested me but the last thing I could see myself doing is turning up at New Douglas Park and support a Club that, whilst would have accepted my team back in the SPL, its fans were nearly 100% adamant that they wanted to see it die.

Bitter, scunnered, fed up, disgusted - check.

New all consuming hobby - check

I think there'd be a fairly broad split if any club was to go to the wall. Some would miss their football fix and find it elsewhere, others would be lost to the game.

There are a number of Rangers fans I know who are genuine football fans and I could imagine the possibility of them going to see another club. There are a huge percentage of them though that don't give a fvck about the actual football and only use it as an excuse to gather and sing their filth and bile.

If Motherwell were to vanish off the face of the earth I'd be devastated, but it wouldn't be long before I was looking for football to watch of a Saturday afternoon. One of the local Junior teams might be getting a couple of extra fans (Shotts Bon Accord or Thorniewood United maybe?) or possibly Clydebank (I spend most of my time through there and they hate Airdrie too!)

  14. 1340744481[/url]' post='347192']

Exactly. 50,000 people aren't all going to suddenly give up on football all together. Rather than having a go at Motherwell fans who genuinely can't afford to be regulars at Fir Park (see earlier post), how about attracting the people who climb aboard buses out of Motherwell to Govan instead?

Nobody was having a go at anybody. Just saying that we need to do all we can to try to ensure that the club doesn't suffer too much from doing the right thing.

Getting extra people along to the games if possible was one of the main things mentioned. To be fair I totally hadn't thought about specifically targeting disillusioned currant buns, but there must be a fair few of them kicking about that could be persuaded by dosser pals to come along to Fir Park on a Saturday rather than finding themselves at a loss (or shopping with the wife!!!)

Just make sure than bitter bigots need not apply :)

  15.

We haven't managed it up until now, and I don't see that changing.

Maybe not, but surely with the help of:

    • Kicking the season off with the excitement of a Champions League qualifier
    • A fantastic effort by the guys at the end of the East creating the best atmosphere at the 'Ark in years
    • A changing mood across Scottish football as it's no longer rigged to favour 2 clubs
    • The club being responsive to fans wishes and moving to being completely community run
    • The possibility of a club legend (allegedly) turning out for a few cameo appearances before moving back down South

C'mon guys, get pestering those friends/family!! It's in our hands.

  16. Season ticket holder ,Well society member , bought the new strip and as a ordinary working class guy i cant do much more and I'm sure that's the same for many. Lets get some of these bastards that turn up at cup finals and big euro nights but do very little else to support the club tae get there arses along to fir park on a more regular basis. That's where the extra cash will be generated most fans are already stretched to there limit.

Obviously people can't be expected to do anything over and above what they can afford. If willing fans have the money to do something extra then hopefully they do.

Encouraging one of your mates to come along to a game costs nothing (other than a bit of an embarrassment when we play sh!te and they don't come back).

Even in that scenario it could be an extra £20 in the biscuit tin.

Seriously though, do we honestly believe we'll see a noticeable difference in the number of people who show up regularly every week?

Maybe not, but if we don't actively try we'll never know.

If there ever was a time to try and get new/returning fans it's now!

  17. With 6 other SPL clubs committing to a "No" vote, with our own club likely to join them once the ballot is counted, there is pretty much no chance at all of 'The Rangers' competing in the SPL next season.

The clubs have done their part, listened to the fans wishes and acted accordingly.

It now comes down to us. Fans of the diddy clubs have to stand up and be counted. There will be a drop off in revenue to be sure. But we can go a long way to bridging that gap, and move Scottish Football in general and Motherwell FC in particular to be stronger without the blue bigots.

No-one knows what the drop in TV/commercial income would be, but the club has a pretty concrete figure of £275K that will be lost off of gate receipts, equating to roughly an extra 650 PATG punters needed at every home game to bridge that shortfall. That is something we can try and do something about.

I'm sure we will all know lapsed fans, part time supporters. People with a passing interest that could be encouraged along. People who have fell out of love with, or developed apathy for Scottish football over the years. Now is the time to get these guys (back) into the game. The tides are changing!

The clubs of the SPL have shown themselves not to be the pushovers we may have thought. Motherwell FC have given our own fans a voice to say "We will not turn a blind eye to cheating!".

We need to do everything we can to ensure that it is not Motherwell and the fellow wee clubs that suffer because of one clubs failure to play by the rules. Get friends, family, colleagues, to come along and try out football at Fir Park. If you've drifted off for whatever reason now is the time to come back. If you normally make 5-6 games a season, try and make 9-10. Don't normally venture into the 'Well shop? then get yourself the cracking new blue kit. Swithering over a 'Well Society membership? get yourself signed up!

Maybe we all can't do all of the above, but if we all chip in and do what we can we can turn this into a real success story for Motherwell and for Scottish Football.

    PS. sorry for the rant/ramble!

  18. being reported that admin process will take another 8-10 weeks

SPL season starts in just over 7 weeks

maybe old Rangers will still exist in admin ...............

so a vote on newco doesnt happen until ......?

It's being reported that after the official turning down of the CVA today, Green's Newco will be up and running within a few days.

An SPL vote will have a minimum notice of 2 weeks, so whatever happens we'll likely to be well into July before anything is known.

You would have to think that the authorities will do everything they can to hurry things along where they can, it would be nightmare if it dragged on til after the start of next season.
