https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46336414 Preston striker Louis Moult on Motherwell inspiration during difficult year By Scott Mullen BBC Sport Scotland Louis Moult scored on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers "You do question yourself sometimes and my time at Motherwell has helped me to stay positive and carry on believing in myself." For much of the last year, Louis Moult has found himself a long way from the life he knew in Scotland. So long one of the Premiership's most prolific strikers with 50 goals in two and a half seasons, now at Preston Moult has learned to dig deep into his resolves of self belief, character and sheer determination to prove himself at Deepdale. Struggling for starts and regular game time with the Championship club, the former Motherwell cult hero netted his third goal in six games on Saturday, fuelling the fire of confidence which is beginning to burn brightly again within the 26-year-old. Here, Moult talks to BBC Scotland about his low moments over the past year, how his family have kept him going, and his apology to his far-travelled followers. Moult scores as Preston defeat Blackburn 'Not playing can dent your confidence' This time last year, Moult was preparing for his first cup final. Already entrenched as Motherwell's inspirational striker, it was his double against Rangers in the semis at Hampden that paved the way for the first of two showpiece finales for the Lanarkshire club. That afternoon was one of several memories that still stay with the former Wrexham forward from his time at Fir Park. Along with scoring four goals in a derby against Hamilton Academical, or netting a brace at Parkhead to sink champions Celtic, these thoughts have swirled about in the mind of the ferociously ambitious Moult during the difficult moments of his first year at Preston. After moving in the January transfer window, the man who averaged a goal in less than every two games in Scotland had to wait eight games before his first of two goals in his maiden season arrived. "I still look back in my time in Scotland quite often, actually," said Moult, whose goal in Saturday's 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers helped move Preston into 16th place in the Championship. "I think because I'm not playing as much it gives me a little boost, because when you're not playing it can dent your confidence. You do question yourself sometimes and my time at Motherwell has helped me to stay positive and carry on believing in myself. "It's a bit of everything. The kind of player I was up there, the kind of goals I scored up there, but more than anything it's just my general play. "It's more or less my missus who says that to me. You do get that little bit of self belief that goes, and she's the one that says, 'look what you did at Motherwell' and 'you can do it'. She's helped me all the way, really." Louis Moult Moult celebrates his second goal in last season's League Cup semi-final against Rangers 'I can get a bit miserable' For all those frustrations, Moult insists the move to Preston has been a positive experience and one he remains sure he can fulfil. The striker, who started his career at Stoke City, has played his part in an eight-game unbeaten run for Alex Neil's team. "I've enjoyed being back down south and being closer to the family, but me as a person, if anyone knows me, they'll know I just love to play football," he said. "So that part has been very, very frustrating but I'm loving my time at Preston. "I can get a bit miserable when I don't play, I'm just that kind of character. It's been a little bit frustrating that I've not really managed to string games together for one reason or another but I've got to try and stay positive and keep at it. "It's something I need to deal with better. I need to keep a smile on my face regardless. I've worked quite hard on that this season to try and be good around the place regardless of if I'm playing or not. Having the kids and missus at home has helped take my mind off things. "I'm very, very fortunate to be in the job I'm in and at the club I'm at, and I try every day. I'll keep trying every day to prove that I can play in this division." 'I was hungry, determined and very, very lucky' As well as looking back fondly at his time in Scotland, Moult occasionally gets little visual reminders of the club he still holds close to his heart. During last season and this current campaign, Motherwell fans have travelled south to watch the man they idolised in claret and amber, even if they sometimes didn't get to see their man in action. "It's unbelievable, it doesn't happen very often in football," he added. "It's happened quite a lot actually and the support I have received from them, it's ridiculous. I've said how much they mean to me and they've helped me become the man I am today. Most of the time it's been a wasted journey for them, though, so I feel sorry for them. "My time at Motherwell was amazing. When I joined I was going into it quite unaware what Scotland was about. I was very hungry and determined. "In the back of my head I wanted to do well but I didn't think it could have gone that well. I was very, very lucky."

https://www.motherwelltimes.co.uk/sport/football/motherwell-fc/keith-lasley-says-motherwell-are-hopeful-david-turnbull-will-sign-contract-extension-1-4833480 Keith Lasley says Motherwell are "hopeful" David Turnbull will sign contract extension Motherwell assistant manager Keith Lasley has revealed that the club are “very hopeful” that midfield sensation David Turnbull will sign a contract to stay at Fir Park beyond this season. The 19-year-old Wishaw-born ace - whose existing deal expires in summer 2019 - has made a big impact early on in his senior career by scoring in the vital recent victories over St Mirren and Dundee. And Lasley knows how important an acquisition Turnbull could be for the Steelmen’s continued success. “The club are speaking to David at the moment,” Lasley said. “We are very hopeful. Obviously we have discussed the boy’s talent. “I know it’s an ongoing discussion at the moment and that’s all I can really say. “I think the boy loves it here, he enjoys his football here. “He knows he gets an opportunity here and he will continue to get that. “We are still hopeful that something can be done. So watch this space.”

The latter, according to this BBC update: "The ball bounces on the edge of the box for Curtis Main, but the Motherwell striker blazes his shot over. It sums up the quality on show in Paisley so far." -

I'm a fan of Bigi, and would love to see him back in the team. His early form was one of the reasons behind our OK-ish start to the campaign, although I'm the first to admit he had gone off the boil in his latter appearances. However, I don't think there is any prospect whatsoever of Robinson playing both Bigi and Turnbull in the same team. -

It's the Wednesday, and I agree fully about the scheduling. I realise that arranging fixtures in a congested calendar cannot be easy and you're never going to keep everyone happy, however is it really necessary for the authorities to schedule a full round of fixtures for an evening when they must know a large number of fans will be unable to attend? What's wrong with the Tuesday night? -

https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/16895913.injury-blow-for-motherwell-as-craig-tanner-goes-under-the-knife-again/ Tanner goes under the knife again Graeme McGarry Craig Tanner is likely to be out until the new year. 0 comments Win with free delivery. Pay for what you love. Not delivery. Find out more Sponsored by eBay ADVERTISEMENT MOTHERWELL have been dealt an injury blow as manager Stephen Robinson revealed that Craig Tanner has undergone further surgery on his knee injury, meaning the attacker may not be back in action until the new year. Tanner has been sidelined since dislocating his kneecap in training back in March and was initially expected to be out for around six months. But his recovery has not gone as well as had been hoped and he was forced to go back under the knife yesterday, leaving him unlikely to return to the Fir Park first-team picture for quite some time yet. “Craig’s having another operation,” Robinson said. “He’s just not progressed as much as we’d want so going to do some surgery on him. He’s somebody we miss in terms of that creativity. “We’d hoped maybe to have him back before Christmas. He’s still not had the results from the surgery, we’ll pop up to see him later. “We’re just waiting to hear the outcome once they’ve gone inside the knee because it hasn’t quite progressed as we’d want it. “It’s tough for him. He’s a great boy. Him and Charles Dunne have tried to keep each other motivated. I had them scouting for me on Saturday just to try and keep them involved and motivated “It’s horrible but we’ve got a good staff here. They spend hours with these boys and mentally it is tough for them when they’re injured.” 0:001:28 There was a mixture of good and bad news on the short-term injury front for Robinson ahead of today’s trip to Aberdeen, with goalkeeper Trevor Carson being given every chance to make the starting line-up after news on the ankle injury sustained against Hearts last week was better than had been expected. Striker Curtis Main will however sit out the trip to Pittodrie with a minor injury, although he may have missed the game in any case as his wife went into labour yesterday. “Trevor will hopefully try and train [on Friday],” said Robinson. “He got the all clear injury wise in terms of any serious damage, but he’ll be a late decision for us. “It’s a relief because superficially it didn’t look great. We were hopeful because he was able to put weight on it straight away that it wasn’t broken. “As I said at the time we were hoping it was just superficial and it proved to be.” Robinson concedes that he is still trying to find the right blend in attack, with Main, Danny Johnson, Ryan Bowman and Conor Sammon vying for a place in attack, but he is please with his options even with Main being unable to play at Aberdeen. “I think we’re on the right track,” he said. “We’re solid, we’re organised, and we just missed a little bit of invention inside that final third and that’s up for me to try and find that and keep working on it. “People are saying to me maybe Main and Sammon didn’t work together. They played two games so I’m not sure how that judgement was made that early. “But the fact Curtis isn’t available, and we’ve got Sammon coming back available again, Bowman coming back to fitness, you’ve got to remember he was out for four or five weeks and Danny as well. “I thought we had it right with Main and Danny for a few games and we’ve got a lot of fire power to come off the bench. “Danny’s just come up it’s his first season. There’s lots of aspects of his game that can improve but he’s got potential to go on and do very well for the club. “I’m glad we strengthened. In situations like this with Curtis out it does give us a stronger option.” -
